Agreed, not every item needs to be temperable or MW-able but don’t think they should be stronger (i.e. having 4 affixes that are worth of 5) necessarily
I think all they really need is just drop at rarer occasion and roll one non-standard affix to spice up things, here’s a list of some of these:

Damage over time can be stacked up to 2/3/4 times

Something like that, in fact I think there should be some items (or an item type) that instead of a “GA” roll some of these
Wont matter current system is easier to get what you want. Yes, loot right now is oversimplified D3 dog water but making it harder for ppl to get what they want with tempering, enchanting we will see the fourms on fire.
Yes I would prefer loot 1.0 with not smart loot and interesting affixes but dont think the playerbase could cope with an actual loot hunt.
It will never happen because that would mean they’d have to admit loot reborn was . Loot reborn is this team’s baby and probably their most proud moment. They consider it an overall improvement, and truth be told it did make most us straight up quit the game forever and those who stayed only mildly annoyed. For Blizzards standards this is a win
Initial itemization had far less problems than people were saying IMO, but yes, the few problems there were they were big
1 = too much redundancy (damage vs bleeding, burning, poisoned, cursed), (damage vs slowed, mobility-impaired, vs chilled, vs dazed, crowd-controlled), (vs frozen, stunned, knocked-down), that alone is like 15 affixes that can be reduced to 3…
2 = some better affixes and them some worse ones occurred later (first you get +X to all stats, CDR, e.t.c., and then later you start getting Lucky Hits or say +2 to a certain passive)
3 = there was one extra tier of items for 75+ missing
- Edgemaster’s, Retaliation, and say a few other affixes could’ve easily been a T4+ affix for gear that drops in the “phase” of 76-100
4 = this was the biggest miss of them all, good affixes existed only for Crit, Vulnerable, and then Maybe (MAYBE) some type of a multiplier of a mastery… How come there aren’t enough affixes that could affect Overpower, LH, Thorns, DoT even
P.S., quite a few affixes were totally even unnecessary, could’ve easily removed them to add something of better use (again LH, Thorns, OP instead of these) “Damage on elite kill”, “MS on elite kill”, “shrine buff duration”, “LH chance to execute injured non-elite”, “LH chance to slow” (I mean )
Those felt even troll-ish (at least to me), just another “fluff” designed to make Enchanting harder and have people spend more time gambling
The #4 and #1 were by far the most decisive factor for the initial itemization being bad for me (not necessarily the conditionals I think)
I agree with you in a lot of this. Loot 1.0 with all the multiplicitive sources made everything additive undesirable.
There was a point where loot fatigue also set it because ppl were showered with rares and legendaries looking for 1-2 specific stats out of a massive additive damage pool. Where was my LL/ML, slow on hit and the other actual interesting affixes.
I mean even without the multipliers, just make every mechanic in the game viable instead of forcing everyone go for Vuln * Crit
LH could’ve gotten a few like this:
- LH chances are increased by 25/50/100%[x ] vs Elites
- Basic/Core/Defensive/All skills have LH chance increased by 10%/20% (or in case of all skills 5%/10%)
- LH occurs twice in a row
Overpower could’ve gotten a few like this:
- Overpower occurs twice in a row
- Every 8th/7th/6th hit vs Elites in a row is Overpower
- Casting a defensive skill unlocks Overpower
- Evade grants Overpower
Thorns could’ve gotten something like this:
- Thorns damage increased by Basic skills damage
- Thorns damage increased by DR%[x ] damage
- Thorns damage dealt is doubled vs Elites
- Casting defensive skills doubles Thorns damage for [1-3 sec.]
DoT could’ve gotten something like this:
- DoT increased for [50-100]% of Basic attack per tick
- DoT increased for Life on Kill per tick
- DoT can be stacked twice vs Elites
- DoT damage is increased by 25%/33%/50% [x ] while Fortified or having a Barrier Active

Those chores you listed come from playing the game. So you may as well just not play the game if playing the game is chores.
I wish you could be a game dev because your ideas are fun but they still lack the trial by fire of realizing that players will never appreciate your creativity because there’s always going to be a “best” option (I can see it right now on your amulets) and no one will use, desire, or even try anything but.
