New Rogue player and I need advice please!

First off I feel obliged to apologize for posting here, I posted in Rogue chat earlier but not one person commented so I’m here, it’s very important in regards to gaming that I get the assistance I need so I can keep playing.

Okay so I could really use to help on getting my rogue going, not looking for gear just solid advice, I said it’s my first time playing a rogue and I mean it… I
Have no idea what I’m doing, I’m trying to follow a barrage leveling guide but I feel like something is wrong, I do a 2 second burst of damage and my energy is gone and takes forever to get back, I’m only lvl 19 so is that just how it’s supposed to be? Is there anything I can do at my current level to get more damage or more energy sustain so I can fire barrage more?

Too long didn’t read version is : please tell me what I need to know and what I need to acquire for a smoother rogue experience.

dont be sorry lol! the class forums are rather empty, its pretty much the general discussion most of the time ^^ Let alone the fact that id assume the majority is done with s6 by now ^^

First things first, on 19 you will run out of energy really easily, as you will for sure not have the gear to sustain “almost permanent” barrage.

Not sure what guide you are using, but ill just drop this one here real quick, as it goes far more into detail than a forum reply could

Ideally, youll want energy recovery of course on your gear. Also the branch for the shadow imbuement “consumin shadows” helps a lot to sustain energy as it grants you 10 energy when you kill something with shadow damage. (make sure to roll extra shadow imbuement stacks on your temperings). Energy costs reduction comes in handy of course as well.

Keeping it a little short here so you can drop in questions. Also, if you havent already, check the guide i linked you, as energy generation and sustain is being mentioned there.

That being said, energy is an issue early on but you will notice that itll ease up rather quickly once you get a few items, and temperings on your gear.

I would suggest Dance of Knives as a leveling build. It’s not as powerful as either Rapid Fire or Flurry in late Endgame but it’s easier to play, not energy dependent and much better for farming.

I had to get the apology out there cuz i posted here about specific class related questions cuz the class forum section is so dead as you said and the forum police come and jump down my throat for it lol

I thought the Druid leveling experience was bad but my rogue is taking it to a whole new level so getting them levels is gonna suck lol But thanks for the reply I appreciate it. That energy on shadow imbuement kill thing sounds like it can help.

lul, some people say im part of that police :stuck_out_tongue: no worries dude hah <3

Yea you really need to get your foot in the door with rogues first. I started playing rogue the first time in s5 in a serious fashion, and i struggled a bit at first, as you clearly have to get to know a few mechanics to keep you sustained.

i also agree with that. Personally id think dance of knives is more beginner friendly, as its mostly the movement speed you have to worry about to keep endlessly spinning ^^

Yeah I always went Barrage myself previous to this season. I think now everything with Rogue is going to be one compromise or another.

yea barrage kinda died a little for me with the changes to andariels visage. Im having a blast with dance of knives tho honestly. Really enjoying it ^^

Use the runeword for use a healing potion recover energy. Then in your skill talents choose the stun enemies and increase damage with health potion. It also lets you use health potions at max life

No judgement for anyone that follows a guide, but here is my advice.

Just play and do any kind of YOLO build you like as you level up. Don’t even think about it too much - you can change your skills any time, essentially for free, so just try each basic skill and core skill, and find the ones you like the most. And then do the same for each major branch of the skill tree.

It’s going to feel a bit awkward and clunky for a little while as you level up. That’s just how it is. A “smooth experience” comes when you have better gear, and enough skill points to actually make a more complete build.

So just focus on cobbling together any configuration that makes it easier to kill stuff quickly (and have fun) and you’ll be 60 in no time. Then at least, if you do want to follow a guide, you can fill it out properly and work towards getting the gear you need.

Another piece of advice that most people won’t agree with. Don’t ignore tempering, enchanting, etc as you level up. As long as you have the resources, spend them, all of these things can be very helpful. As a basic example… if you’re struggling to stay alive… you can temper all of your armor with ‘worldly endurance’ for +life and quadruple your hit points with minimal investment. Just one example of how you can make it significantly easier for yourself.

oh you are absolutely right. I just wanted to go into that “resource starving” ^^

In the end, just going Yolo, reading your stuff and going nuts teaches you the most.

Oh yeah, that’s a great idea, I mean it’s no fun to be constantly out of resources! Pretty much any advice and guide is good, as long as people are trying stuff and thinking about it (and making up their own mind on what they like and what works for them!)

Get the Energy per second Affix on your Head, Chest and Boots. Try to start with gear that has that. Rolling for it can get expensive, but at 19…you may need to.

Also for when you start to see legendaries, umbral and starlight are two good resource generators.

No advice here…we just RP the Eternal Conflict.

Play on normal until you have a firm grasp on everything. There is no shame in normal and you can make progress fast. Always lower difficulty until you can clear monsters consistently and fast. Strongholds will give you heaps of xp as well as well as the campaigns.

If you are using any shadow damage there is also the trait for recover energy when shadow skills damage an enemy.

There is also the Ravenous Aspect - Killing a vulnerable enemy increases energy regeneration for 4 seconds

oh good point! totally forgot about that aspect as you dont use it later on. Yea its pretty strong early on.
