New Pricing Scheme for the Collectors Edition

I purchased The DIablo IV ultimate edition, back on December 10th. I assumed back then that it was like all of my other collectors editions, that it came with the box and all the collateral material, this of course has not turened out to be the case. You have to purchase the collectors box as well. Ultimately, that makes it a $200+ purchase! I have purchased all of the WoW Collectors editions from Vanilla on, and they were less than $100 each with everything included. Now Diablo IV comes along and it is $200 for the same thing!! It seems to me for the approximately $100 you would get the Collectors edition box and a code to redeem for a digital download of the game, just as there are codes for the different mounts and other “loot” items in the collectors box, this is also the price point all the other collectors editions have been including the game, be it a code or digital media. This just seems rather misleading to be honest, that being said I feel like if you are purchasing the collectors edition, it should always include the digital content which it represents, so If you really feel like with the game code included it is worth $200, then that is what you should charge. I don’t think much of this strategy and I feel like it is rather deceptive considering I have been buying the collectors editions from Blizzard since 2004 and the “game/expansion etc” has always been included. Now there is a little tag on the Picture indicating the game is not included. I feel like since Diablo Immortal, Blizzard has gotten kind of greedy- My opinion. From a few of the reviews I have read, it also seems like when Diablo IV does release to play in June it will be incomplete, as an example, the wardrobe feature will be missing. What a bunch of trouble to have to store all of your pieces of armor and then have to change them out manually. First world problems I guess…But Seriously , back to my initial point, $200 for Diablo IV collectors complete seems rather pricey !!

They were pretty clear on everything. All you needed to do was read or watch anything about any of it.

I kind of like how they did the CE and here’s an example of why:

Baldur’s Gate 3 EA came out almost 3 years ago. I got it immediately. Just a few months ago at the Game Awards, they announced the CE. Git that immediately. Now I have the copy of the game in EA and the code in the CE. I was thinking I was going to give that code to a friend, NBD, right? But what if the CE benefits are tied to the code?

Also, I remember buying the CE for D3 and having to wait over night in a Gamestop to pick it up on release day… Not ideal, either.

And what if you ordered a CE and had to wait for it to be shipped? Now the 4 day early access to play D4 is wasted waiting for your copy to arrive…

All in all, now you can buy the game at 3 different pricing tiers AND get the CE box separately and be playing the minute the game launches. Pretty good solution in my opinion.

(Edit) Forgot to point out that you had the option to buy the $60 tier and it would have been cheaper if that’s what you’re worried about. IDK about the WoW CE’s, not a fan of it, but you’d have to compare the time they came out vs the value of what’s in the CE to today’s economy. Things get more expensive.

So you mad that you failed to read the description of the item you were buying? That was known from day on and posted on every YouTube video who mentioned it? damn.

Aren’t the words: “No Game Included” highlighted in red and bold on the game store?

yeah I agree. Felt like getting punished for buying the collector’s edition over any other digital offering.

Game or no game for value to dollars the collector’s edition just really doesn’t cut it this time around, I was a little disappointed in it to be honest because it’s been such a long time coming. They could have added a lot of more fun flavor items to make it a good, boxed set, even the cloth maps tiny!

yeah I didn’t buy the box this time around. It’ll just collect dust anyways.

its not missing. they specifically said they didnt want you to change specs all the time and were going to make it hard to do so. HOWEVER, due to feedback, they went back on that a little bit. If they do add it, it will be after launch because they hadnt planned to add it in the first place. They arent going to chance ruining the game to add a whole new feature to the game. they are going to polish what is already in it and try to make sure Sh*t doesnt go super terrible at launch.

well in my opinion :

  1. it was really easy to see that the collector box didn’t include said game it was written and said everywhere !
  1. that being said, yes they are becoming greedy just look the differences between D4 CE and D3 CE.
  • The D3 CE was great (great books, diablo head with the soulston usb KEY with D2 on it ! ) , was cheaper and had the game.

  • The D4 CE is more expensive, isn’t that great (no figures etc… merely candle) and don’t have the game.

so yea, all in all they are greedier.
and it’s easy to see considering they have now battlepass and force seeing other players in town etc… (even if it make the game laggy ) mostly so that players can see the cosmetics other players have in an attempt to make them buy more cosmetics.

but sadly it’s the case for all game company lately.
CE Wise too , just look at the différences between Zelda BOTW CE and the new one.
Same price but world apart in term of content.

Yeah while I would love this box, they want to charge $250 shipping to Australia which is absolutely insane as in I don’t even understand how they came up with that amount for shipping. It’s completely egregious even by the most expensive instances in which I’ve had to pay international shipping

It’s a Collectors BOX, not a Collectors edition. No game included in red block text first of all in the product description.

The art prints and the art book make it totally worth the price. An easy buy for me.

I am acutally happy that they did not include game in Collectors Box. When D3 had it’s special edition, which I ordered to be sent from UK to my country - obviously something had to happen with shipping/transportation and I did not have game on release.
Now I chose digital game variant and Box delivery will not ruin game launch for me due to third party incompetence.

Yes, Blizzard and their “scheme” of telling you the price and exactly what you get for said price, or don’t get.

If the collector’s isn’t worth the price, don’t buy it? I sure didn’t.

I’m not sure I buy into this argument but they said the reason they sold the box alone is so people can mix and match the CE with the digital version they wanted. Either way, it’s a pricey purchase.

Giving the business model is a live service, expect they going to try to temp you to pay more through cosmetics and other things - hence why I didn’t get the CE.

Should include a coupon for 50% off any digital edition of the game.

But I wouldn’t buy it even if it did.

Yes it is my fault, but to be fair I have been buying these for 20 years from blizzard and initially there were two versions, the standard and the CE. later on they added a mid level offering, but the CE has always included the ultimate/ whatever the best edition was or is even in their last release of Dragonflight ($129). and now they are not synonymous but separate products, in Diablo which is different after 20 years of the offerings similar to WoW which still includes the game in the CE. So with a new marketing plan for Diablo, and because of my previous purchases I guess i got lazy and didn’t read the included materials To be fair though it didn’t say it wasn’t included either (which they probably should since they mention it the other way), so to me it was kind of misleading considering their previous offerings, and the fact they didn’t even have the CE box offering back on December 10th of last year, it wasn’t available until the 15th. So yes I assumed it would be similar to the aforementioned Wow releases and previous Diablo CE releases, Which obviously it isn’t. And to respond to some others, yes, on the current picture of the CE box, I can read that the game is sold separately, back when I purchased the game, the picture itself didn’t say that, I guess though it has been enough of an issue that they emblazoned that on the picture later, to resolve the ambiguity.

What was included was very clear from the start. I bought both the Ultimate version of the game and the Collector’s box. The price seems fair to me for a game that I will play for thousands of hours, as i did with its predecessors.
