New character every season?

Do you guys create a new character every season? I hate this system as I would love to be able to stick with the same characters and progress them through every new season as I love to build on my existing characters.

If creating a new character every season is the norm for most of you guys though I will try to embrace it and roll with it, so I just thought I would see what you guys suggest?

this games only re-play ability factor is having to level up a new character every season. some find that fun. i don’t… especially if its a class i’ve already leveld to 100.

its a single player game. Most you don’t re-play on a continuous cycle. I got bored of Elden Ring after NG+3… explored everything. killed everything. Total was about 150 hours, but theres no fun factor when you know whats coming.

if you want an ARPG where you continously player 1 character, Lost Ark or Last Epoch… I’d go with Last Epoch… Lost Ark is full of toxic disgusting, pathetic gate keeping douchebags

Agreed, even though I love making alts… sometimes I find myself being too committed and hate re rolling per season. I wish there was a way to bring in old chars to new seasons but naked, or something

If you want to play the season you dont have a choice.

Same old song again and again and again…

Well… this is Diablo and not World of Warcraft.
The normal thing is to start over every x month.
And that’s for enough reasons exactly this what (most) diablo players enjoy.
If you don’t like that, play the eternal realm.
You have to give up some (experimental) content to do so.

I do a new character and class every season. Luckily, I didn’t play much of S3 so I have a barb to make for S5 and a spiritwalker for S6 (if I get the expansion, still need more info).

I never made it to 100 on rogue or druid (stopped in the 70s) so I’ll probably remake those down the road, because Eternal is boring as all hell without the season antics. Don’t know how people play on there.

Thanks for the input guys its much appreciated!

Going forward I will try to embrace the new char every season, I like the note from Sketch saying to do a new class / build every season I can definitely see how that helps to keep the game fresh!

Gonna have to learn how to wave goodbye to my characters and not get so attached to them xD (i will also be hoping though that at some point we can keep our characters hehe)

Quick side note, does this mean you guys delete your characters at the end of the season when they get transferred to the eternal realm to keep the roster clear?

So let’s go down this rabbit hole. Let’s say seasons were added to Eternal, we’re not getting rid of the Seasonal Realm so leave that cancel culture at the door thank you.

Now a new season starts for both realms. You take your maxed out character, level 100, great gear, mythic uniques, etc. You manage to complete the seasonal objectives in about a day of playtime, maybe less.

So, now what? Even if the gimmick adds a little more power to your character, what are you going to do? Maybe push higher in the Pits before you get bored?

You wouldn’t need to run NMD, Helltides, whispers, etc. You’re basically done with that character until the next Season comes out. You could run Uber/Tormented Bosses, but you already own every Mythic Unique from being on Eternal.

So I’m just curious, how long do you think your attention span would last on an already completed character with a slightly new gimmick for content you’ve done thousands of times over?

You make a very good point here Iggi. I guess i’m looking at the overall ethos of the game in the wrong way.

I’m just a gamer that loves to build my character all the way up to the top, gain all the accessories, achievements, complete all content etc. It just feels wrong to me to then delete it and leave it in the ether just to start all over again, but like you say the game would become boring just blitzing through every new season in days on an op char.

I would love to see a system whereby we could use our existing chars however that would work, but I definitely see the reasoning for it not existing currently and i’m gonna embrace the fresh start system.

Every single time I told myself I stick to my eternal characters just ended up getting bored and started a fresh seasonal one anyway.

It’s not a norm, its just what they’ve implemented. The whole point behind this in Diablo 2 was ladder leaderboards and it was difficult to reach level 99 so it was competitive. Although they never added “seasons” with new content that wasn’t available in what you would call “eternal” It was a reset of the ladder system and a reset of the games economy.

Honestly hate the way they do these seasons in D4 and I hate that season content isn’t available in eternal because if it was there would be no reason not to just play eternal.

Yeah Shelledfade its definitely very annoying that the seasons aren’t available in the eternal realm. It almost begs the question why does the eternal realm even exist at all? If most players are creating new characters every season, then what is the point in shelving characters into eternal realm never to be played again? Especially considering you can only have 6 chars, just feels a bit counter-intuitive…

The problem is the structure of the content in the game.

This game is not designed for longevity. It’s stupid.

Instead of creating long lasting content they rather want us to always repeat the same.

This idea however was terrible and all the xp buffs etc show exactly that.

This game souls be designed differently from the root to the crown.

But that train is gone. Will not return.

D4 is inevitable flawed and they try to fix what they can.

There is no explaining why they do anything the way they do it in this game as it released with massive issues from lack of items and ubers you would never find in your lifetime all the way to the lack of a leaderboard or leaderboard variety, to lack of itemization and class balance. Most of these things are still issues in this game. We’re in early access and its being lead by devs who clearly develop primarily for console. You get what you get at that point.

If you just suggested they should delete the Eternal Realm, then i think we are friends.

I keep them. I didn’t start deleting characters in D3 until I had a male and female of every class, which left me capped.

But when I deleted a character for a new season, I made a new character with the same name. In the end, it’s kind of like they weren’t deleted.

And Eternal is only around because of the players that don’t want to start over. For me, leveling is the most fun of arpgs, unlocking abilities and exploring builds, doing the seasonal content.

I mean blizzard could make seasons on eternal avaialable too. LE can do it, so i see no reason d4 couldnt. What they can do however is lock the content for a week and then it also releases in eternal, so new content doesnt get immiadetly run over by fully decked characters. Kinda what LE did with that pinnacle Boss release on eternal.

Personally i dont care about old chars, but we see these questions pop up every now and again, so why not implement this compromise.

I like character development that is sustainable. Better and better equipment right up to the perfect gear. Goldcap, collection of perfect 4GA uniques with maximum rolled effect for testing purposes and fun builds, endless farmed mats for fast switching to a new build incl. 12/12 finalization.

I don’t level up all the glyphs again. With the release of new and legendary glyphs it gets even more annoying.

Of course I also play spiritborn. But on the eternal. I buy fine stuff for it, you haven’t seen anything like it yet. Only the finest 3GA silk and the strongest weapons. They’ll be waiting for him. And if he levels up quickly, he gets them as a reward.

It was different in D3. There were often powers that were only available in season, just like in S2. And there were gems that I could level higher in season than on Eternal because of this seasonal power.
The gems went over to Eternal after the season, power to take with you, so to speak.
That made a difference.

In S4 and probably in S5, nothing makes a difference except leveling the glyphs again from the beginning and the constant lack of money.

Nah nah. That’s not for me.
