Sorry for the new post, but the forum would not let me simply “Reply” to my original post for this issue.
Hi DTMAce! After installing a new TP-Link 2.5GB NIC card in my machine and attaching it to my router with a CAT 8 network cable, I was still kicked out of the game with the “Network Disconnect” error.
I tried running a WinMTR test before starting the game then stopped it after running the game and getting kicked out with the “Network Disconnect” error. I used “battle.net” as the host name: (FYI: I had to change the “.” to a “-” in some of the links contained in the results as the forum wouldn’t let me include them with the "."s…)

Test results look good to be fair. The WinMTR looks solid.
However battle.net is not the same as the game server, so that may be inconclusive with regards to the game itself.
As I said, the IP addresses they used to have posted are no longer available and may have changed.
But you should still be able to pull the connection data so you have the server IP you are currently connected to. Here is how you do that:
Open Resource Monitor. You can do this from Task Manager, just click the 3 … at the top right, and choose Resource Monitor, or hit Start and type in Resource Monitor.
Once in here, click on Network.
Under here, look for Network Activity. Click the arrow at the right to expand the view.
The click on Image to sort by the program name.
Then look for Diablo IV. Game has to be running.
Then you should have a list of connections for Diablo IV.
There can be a lot of connections, but when I was examining them, I was seeing 137.221.105.xxx AND 137.221.106.xxx at times.
But you can use those IPs to run in WinMTR as tests. The problem I saw, is that even changing towns seems to affect what server you might be on, and you will connect to a lot of different places while the game is running. Even noticed that some of the same IP address are associated with Battle.net app too.
But you need to test against the game IP, not just the Battle.net address, if possible.
You will also see ones for Google, one for Amazon, etc as well. And some will be other things, one or two will be your computer’s name, things like that.
Its no wonder the connection can get goofy, if it has a lot of places to connect with in order to work. One wrong service has an interruption and its lights out. And that interruption doesn’t have to be Blizzard’s fault either, which doesn’t help. Maybe the extra connections are supposed to give the game some redundancy? I don’t know.
But you can see this for yourself using that tool. But if you are able to pull the IP address you are using when you play and test WinMTR with that, see if you get any different results.
Hi DTMAce! Well, as you said in the other post: “Sometimes the problem is a lost closer than you might think.” I believe that to be true now and I apologize for my earlier “frustrated” posts…
Before running the game I turned off the Windows Defender firewall, my NordVPN software, and my System Mechanic software. I then went into the Task Manager and closed down all of the background processes associated with those applications.
I then started up the game and I was finally able to play the game without any network disconnects! My new Rogue character made it all the way to Kyovashad without any problems at all… The next time I run the game I will shut down these processes again to see if I am still able to play without any issues… For now though, I think my immediate problem has been resolved!
Thank you so much for your assistance and recommendations! Very much appreciated!
Narrow those down by trying to shut them down one at a time and playing while one is off.
But from my perspective, system mechanic needs to be removed, its crapware in my opinion.
And NordVPN is also a problem. There is no real reason to have a VPN unless you have special needs for it, or are doing things that need that protection. Diablo IV is extremely fussy and doesn’t like VPN software.
Those two things would be highly suspect. Defender is the least worrysome of the 3.
I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, (but not the Premium plus VPN version) as I buy a 10 license pack every year and share it with the family. Comes down to less than 5 bucks a PC when I do it that way. I only have 2 customers that I work with that have to have a VPN, as its required since they run tax service software. They also have to run drive encryption and cloud backups.
Most of us really don’t need VPN services. And many programs like System Mechanic aren’t required, since Windows 10/11 can take care of themselves just fine. They don’t need help. All that software does is add bloat and performance robbing processes. Norton and McAfee are some of the worst offenders in that category. Norton installs SO MUCH bloatware that it can choke a perfectly powerful system and make it feel mediocre.
Malwarebytes has never caused me an issue with the game to date.
On Windows 11 I was getting “reconnecting to Diablo IV” in the upper left, then disconnect about every 45 minutes. I fixed this by going into advanced firewall settings and enabling all inbound rules for battle.net and Diablo IV apps. I also checked the path permission in properties, under the programs and services tab, to make sure that the listed directory matched the current locations of the apps.
Hi DTMAce! Gotcha… For the work that I do I need a VPN service and I will consider removing the System Mechanic software once my current license is up. I’m going to try shutting down my VPN service again today after I’ve finished working and my work platforms have been shut down and will see how it goes…
