I don’t know what the heck has happened. In levels 70-80, I handled the Butcher with ease. Used a lot of potions but still beat him every time. Now I’m level 87, gear is solid, paragon board I guess is pretty good. But I can’t do anything to the Butcher anymore. He stuns me, hit my health pretty hard all the while he has a shield up that takes forever to dwindle. Then he regains a bit of health back.
Other than git gud, any tips from Frost Sorcs out there? I feel he has basically outleveled me at this point as I am stuck with basically the same gear from before. It’s upgraded but not much number wise in the grand scheme of game. Other than the Butcher, I can do level 36 NM dungeons with ease if that says anything about where I am at in my own power leveling. Thanks
p.s. I am new to Diablo, so this is my first rodeo with it. I try to stay away from build vids too, but lately I almost want to check them out because I just feel weaker as I am leveling up near the final end game.
my buddy had this problem, he honestly rarely beats him by him self and he’s 100 and has changed/played with several build from different content creators. theres some issues with sorc right now thats not been adressed. the few times he killed the butcher he had to play slow and his teleport was his best friend, along with the shield skills. take it slow and keep your distance would be my recommendation from what he said and from watching him. im a barb so this is not an insiders advice. best of luck

I lock him up.
Whenever he spawns, find somewhere near you that has an obstacle on the map. Like a rock or tree or whatever. Just kite him around that .
100% win is if you ever get him by the healing cauldron. Simply run around that and he will get stuck on it multiple times. He will shoot off of it with his dash slow move so you may have to reset him back to the pot and rinse repeat.
I’m only 80 but rarely lose to him if I can find something to get him stuck on. One time, he literally got caught on the healing cauldron and just sat there while I hit wailed away on him.
Hope this helps.
Good luck!

Level 82 sorc, here. Blizzard/ice shard. Anytime I run into the butcher it’s going to be a losing battle for me unless I find something to kite around him with. Then I have a long drawn out battle pecking him briefly once while running away (when barriers aren’t up). Having blizzard up while running around something helps but blizzard is better for CC than pure damage.

RUN FOREST RUNN
Partially joking, as an electro sorc with 4 points in glass cannon, kiting is a good way to stay alive. Just be sure to dodge that hook. And always have atleast 1 cc breaker. ice shield, fire shield. Never leave your rear uncovered.

So basically as a Sorcerer post 85 level, I need to figure out the best cheese tactic for any chance of beating him now. As a newcomer to Diablo and this kind of game, this is pretty frustrating. I don’t mind tough bosses as I beat every Elder Ring boss including Melania, and every Dark Souls 3 boss as well. Those were a blast to beat. This is the complete opposite tho.
But anyways the main problem with the Butcher at my current level is actually his shield. After an hour of dwindling it down (not a good game design by the way), I can actually get a decent chunk of his health down. But then it’s another 10 plus minutes on working on his shield as he gets a bit of health back as I run out of potions.
Long story short, if I see him I go the other way or let him kill me to save time. Time is the most valuable currency in all video games, and he simply isnt worth it anymore.

I can 1v1 him through lots of kiting and dragging him through damage and setup bursts from time to time. The trouble is I haven’t a run into him 1v1 is a long time an he’s usually chilling in a corner of a small room or in a narrow hallway with 3 elites and several annoying enemies like bloated corpse fiends that have either extra damage aura or increased health.
I can’t focus on the Butcher when the room is full of enemies who mainly just get in the way or have annoying mechanics.

Yeah, that shield can make the fight too long. Before I started using Tornado on my Druid, I had a couple fights with the Butcher that were too long. Now, with Tornado, he can’t regenerate his shield. It drops and then his health drops pretty quickly. It probably takes less than 10 seconds now to kill him with Tornado.
I really enjoy my Druid, but I want to play a different class for season 1, and the problem with that is that all the other classes have players who are unhappy with their progress, especially in nightmare dungeons. So, I hope this next patch buffs some classes, so I can pick one to play in Season 1.

Since you seem unsure of your paragon board, if you havent watched or read guides associated with your particular build, use these guides to see what other players or content creators are doing and make adjustments accordingly.
Could be time to start midmaxing gear or your build could suck sadly. Considering youve made it this far though, probably midmaxing gear
Get some high roll movement speed on boots and necklace and kite him? Aspect of Protector (well rolled) can help too. If there is any move speed on the tree (I don’t play sorc) get that too.
If you were a Necro, I would’ve suggested a sever build, but I haven’t played anyone else, so I have nothing for you except suggest you look into endurance builds for a sorc.
I’m finding that butcher isn’t worth the time. He takes me foreeeeever to kill at level 79. It’s faster to just run out of the dungeon and have him despawn. His drops aren’t worth it.
