I have enjoyed the Hordes except the Season is almost over and I’ve never been able to get beyond Pit 31 as a Blood Necro - so completely reconfigured to a bone build - including the Paragon build and was even worse at the Pits.
Can anyone give me some hints as to how to strengthen my character specifically geared to Pit play.
Clearly I am not getting it right since everyone else brags of clearing level 100 Pits easily.
I am now back to Blood Necro build but no joy!
Sorry to tell you that Necro is in the darkest hour. (and gonna be in season 6, too.)
Dev who never played this class thought we were so strong so they nerf us every way; Bone, Blood, Shadow, Overpower, Corpse explosion, and Minions.
Only 2 builds still survive are Blood Surge and Bone Spirit
- Blood Surge is easy to clear mobs but struggles fighting boss
- Bone Spirit is extremely high damage but hard to use
For pits you may want to check out the blood wave - bone spirit build.
I think any standard build can do pit 61 (neathiron requirement) its just a case of gear, aspects and competence.
If you are quite new to the game and don’t have time to theorycraft yourself I suggest following a guide so you can standardize your build. Go to maxroll or D4builds.gg to find a guide that is roughly the same as what you want to play.
This will force you onto the right track as far as build/competence goes. Make sure you follow the build as closely as possible, because without a full understanding of the game leaving out an aspect here, or a glyph there you might be bricking your build.
Grind those paragons and glyphs, a lot of power for builds is locked behind glyph rank 15 and having the correct paragon boards unlocked.
Grind gear (helltide), make sure you are not just blindly getting items with bigger numbers… no one needs life regen for example. Get your caps! all resistance and 9230 armour along with plenty of life and main stat, this can be achieved both with gear and the paragon tree, most good guides will have this covered.
So get yourself a baseline of gear, that means each slot has items with the correct stats and tempers along with the right aspects and maybe one or two GA stats, but remember a GA useless stat is no stat at all.
At this point you can masterwork some of your gear, and you will cruise to pit 60 no problem if not further.
I’m a pure minion necro and I did level 90 Pit tonight with no problem. What was previously giving me trouble, mostly, was the boss fights and the somewhat cheap deaths that can happen. What cured that for me was prioritizing attack speed more than pure damage, upping my movement speed overall, and adding an Aspect to a piece of my gear that gives me the “unstoppable” condition when I dash. So, if I get in trouble, I can dash around–even through the danger zone–and live. I can avoid those shadow attacks now and am clearing higher Pits than ever. I literally only died once in the last 30 or so runs.
I hate it, though, because somehow I am not getting any Stygian stones and my build is one that’s not terrific at tier 7 Infernal Hordes. There’s simply too much going on at that level and that seems to be the only good way to get Stygian stones.
SIDE NOTE: I did have quite a few Stygian stones that let me fight Tormented bosses, and get a couple Mythic Uniques which was key to upping my capabilities, but they have run out. I have no idea how I got them before when I couldn’t ever do tier 7 Infernal Hordes and was doing lower Pit levels until I got those Mythics. ???
you got them from the seasonal cache and the season journey cache. For doing Horde 7 try and go in with about 50-60k hp and tyreal’s might and you will be safe even with using AotD.
However if you don’t mind losing some boss damage do it with bonestorm and shielding storm + shako (if you have it) this will allow you to keep it up almost all the time (I assume you are rolling CDR on rings/amulets). This setup is extremely safe and you just stand in all the damage and hope your minion’s dont suck to much.
But ultimately if you want stygian stones you need to do horde 7-8 because even pit 100 only has a 20% drop rate and the bosses are way to tanky compared to season 4. I have extremely good summoning gear all key stats are GA and triple crits and I tried a pit 120 after some final upgrades (I had done a 120 before but it was very slow) and after blowing all my CDs and the boss hp not moving I just Alt+F4’ed I had absolutely no interest in doing it again. For context with worse gear but the same pure summoner build in season 4 i was speed farming 115, my highest pit being 133 and that was without the bugged elixir.
Thanks for the advice! Probably is the best idea. I wish you could just have different load-outs but that’s too much for Blizzard to provide us!
