Necromancer local co-op minions bug

Hello,

I’m playing with my GF (Player 2) and she decided to play as necromancer. When travelling sometimes minions stop following her and she can’t resummon them, it always use buff ability. We noticed that when we go back or teleport to different location, they start follow her again. I have video proof but I can’t send links here.

I’m having this same issue; my partner is player one and owns the game, and I play with him via couch co-op on PS5.

I’m playing a minion/corpse explosion build, and have both aspects active that increase the number of minions I can have.

Quite frequently I will have a bug where my re-summon fails.
I may have zero minions, and instead of them resummoning when I’m looking at corpses, I just end up spawning the priest over and over. Army of the dead also has the same bug.

Going into my book of the dead and quickly switching my minion types back and forth fixes the issue temporarily, but this is impossible to do in WT4 when in the middle of a fight.

So far my partner and I notice the bug usually happens after:

  • I talk to an NPC
  • I interact with something
  • I use the conduit shrine (this guarantees the bug to trigger )
  • I travel on the horse and move away fairly quickly, and my minions get stuck/left behind
  • I use a portal

The bug does not trigger if I am playing solo (I.e. as player one), so it seems to be a couch co-op specific issue.

I have also posted about this but will tag this one too.

My wife plays minionmancer as P2 on PS5. She often sees her minion status indicators go grey like she doesn’t have max summoned. Few observations:

  1. She often logs in with 6/7 skirmishers, even if she has 7/7 when logging out.
  2. Conduit Shrine leaves the minions where you activate it, so you lose the ability to summon any but can run back and have them all appear as you get close.
  3. Terrain in the world, like climbing or jumping, will generally fix the issue, as will Sacrifice > Reset
  4. Sometimes in dungeons, you can watch them get stuck in the middle of a room, and nothing short of porting out or sacrificing will get them to move.
  5. Other times, we will literally just be running in an open area, and she’ll lose one, and we can’t back trace to “find it”
  6. I have a minionmancer alt I play solo, and have not had this issue, though I DID have it in the Beta as solo. Seems like they sorta fixed it post beta, but something about the camera or positioning of co-op still breaks it.
  7. We played for 3 hours tonight, and she encountered the bug 6 times.

Patch 1.1 seems to have largely corrected this issue so far, with the exception of Conduit Shrine. No direct mention of it, but perhaps the co-op camera issue they fixed inadvertently fixed the issue?

All I know is, since the first time I posted, the issue got way worse and she nearly quit over it. Tonight we did 6 dungeons and she never lost minions to the bug outside of Conduit Shrines and them actually dying.

Progress?

I have had the same issue from Season 1 and now into Season 2. Player one can spawn and function normally without any real issue but Player 2 will be bugged where you are unable to spawn anywhere from 1 to all of your minions.

I am not sure if other are still having this same issue but it can make playing rather challenging because you don’t know if you’re going into a new fight/instance/whatever
with the ability to get more minions or not.

This happens when I am playing as player 2 with my husband.

It will be seemingly random in terms of what will trigger the bug. We have tried on both PS4 & PS5 and the same bug persists. It is fairly consistent where at least 2-4 times an hour it will have the number of minions grayed out. When trying to spawn more in it gives the icon of the skeletal priest and not spawn any more. On top of this it doesn’t start healing either because I don’t actually have full minions at that time.

So its a double whammy. Not maxed minions on top of not being able to heal them.

Same thing happened on a PS4 I recently played on. Couldnt spawn or resummon max number of minions. Was very frustrating.

Same thing hapening here on local co-op. When the game owner plays Necromancer, there is no issue summoning minions. But when the account that doesn’t own the game plays Necromancer, minions can’t be summoned back if they die.

May 2024, season 4 and this experience destroying bug remains in local co-op on the PS5 when playing Necro as the “guest” player.

I own Diablo 4 on PC, but I like to play it on couch co-op with my wife who owns it on PS5.

How can this go ignored for over a year while it makes the experience simply unplayable for summonner necros?

Same by me. Blizzard fix this !

Just played couch co op with my son for the first time last week, the skeleton summon is definitely bugged. When using the book of the dead option that allows for one additional summon, if that skeleton is killed it cannot be resummoned. He has to switch the ability back and forth, and then resummon all of them to get the additional again…every single time.

Greetings. This sounds very much like or similar to a bug me and my wife discovered on Xbox local co-op. It’s gotten even worse in 2.0, but as it stands my minions just refuse to teleport back to me if there is another local co op player. If they get distracted by enemies and I keep running, they just get lost.

I can go back and find them, kill whatever mob they are stuck on, and they will come with me once again. If I can’t find them, I can portal somewhere or change elevations (ladders etc). If not, I have to use the Book of the Dead to sacrifice the whole group to be able to resurrect them once again.

This has been happening for just about every season I can remember and needs to be fixed.

Yep I have the same issue. My wife is level 30 on her necromancer, she apparently has to abandon it because blizzard cant seem to find a fix for this or are ignoring it.

It’s wild thay it’s April 2025 and Blizzard still hasn’t addressed this issue. Blizzard is such a crap company now.

Hey everyone, my wife and I have both played couch coop necros since launch.

It is sad to see this issue appears to be EVEN WORSE in season 8.

There is a work around but it still sucks.

When the minions bug out, all you need to do is go to your minion tab in the menu, swap the type of minion and then swap back. Works everytime. Hope this helps.

Wow… its been 2 years on this bug… and it has not been fixed?.. what is going on? Blizzard? Are you there?

This has been an issue for multiple seasons now. Peridocially and totally randomly skeletons will one by one disappear and reappear. Portaling to town brings them back but it keeps happening and at times all of them will be gone and no amount of trying to respawn brings them back…particularly frustrating during boss fights. This doesnt happen during single play from my experience, but since 90% of my play is on couch co-op and summoner necros have been one of my favorite builds since D2 … this is a very disappointing long term bug.

This is still an issue and makes the game unplayable for Necro minion build, especially in the Pit where the re-selection of your minions options workaround to reset is not an option.
Can we get a timeframe for resolution?
