the last time i was playing it was a season with a ring that if i remember sort of automated raising of skeletons and corpse explosions. did this ring ever make it to eternal realm as some kind of mythic etc?
and is there a way to have minions not appear in town? i looked for an option.

yes, the ring is on eternal. Drops from Varshan regularly. Also, no not a mythic.
No, no options to disable minions in towns =)
The ring was introduced to the game (for both realms) in S3 I want to say. Just a regular Unique ring, can be found anywhere but you have a better chance of finding it off of Varshan as Nyurei said.
Just open your book of the dead and sacrifice them while you’re in town, less screen clutter. Not optimal but a 5 sec fix… best I got OP
