Nasty Bug. Cellar Froze. Scan and repair alert

Sharing a nasty bug I encountered this morning. Woke early to continue my Spiritborn on my PC. Just doing my normal quest and decided to go to a cellar in Nahantu. During the transition animation, the game froze.

Battle.net app showed an error that it needs to be scanned and repair. I’m pretty sure this is not a malware popup. I did.

Game crashed and I’m back at the Battle.net screen. It tried repairing itself. I let it for 30 mins while I switched on my laptop so I don’t waste time waiting.

PC is still trying to repair after 20 mins or so, it showed a message I need to login as admin or restart. I tried restarting the app 2x as admin. NOPE.

Then I saw an error that my NVMe drive is missing. That scared me. I tried restarting my PC. Error still shows.

What fix it? I had to shutdown the computer for 30 seconds. My drive is fixed but I haven’t checked if the game is working on my PC. I’m still on my laptop.

Just typing this message here just in case you guys experience the same problem. Remember it all started when I went into a cellar

thanks for this heads-up. i’m going to take a stab at it and say you’re probably going to have to do a clean install of D4/Bnet (if using bnet launcher) [scan and repair is lol since last season(s)/patches]
as far as hardware, i’m going to be watching my system like a hawk.
again ty.

Luckily I don’t have to reinstall yet. I was able to login in my PC and was able to play some quests but my game is stuttering. 150 fps in general but I am getting 50 99th FPS in general.

This is a 7800X3D and 7900XTX system. I had no problems with base D4 prior to the updated so pretty sure my specs are fine too. My laptop with Nvidia 4060 for laptop can play VoH.

Gonna restart again my PC. The only variable in my PC was this VoH. Nothing new was added recently. No new hardware.

Sounds like a hdd issue for sure, it just happened to be diablo 4 that made it noticeable. Diablo 4 is like 90-140gb or something? It’s a BIG game.

It’s indeed a big game. I have a 2X TB
Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive. One is for games and one for the rest.

I still have 1.15 TB free on the drive where I store the game. My FPS has dropped to 45 fps 99th. The game is stuttering.

I had no issues prior to this incident and definitely no issues before VoH

Game crash after the intro cinematic. PC crash and restart after 10 minutes playing… ^^’

After finishing the campaign, I went to do the Deeds of champion quest. As soon as I teleport, Black screen and computer crashed.

Yep, it PC crashed again on a teleport. There’s a critical bug on teleport, looks like. For a PC crash, it’s serious… I didn’t know a program could crash a PC. I will open a ticket.

Yep something with map transition. My initial bug happened as well when I was transitioning to the cellar

It’s serious issue, it can potentially damage the PC hardware. Generally a program crash and it goes back to Windows… but a PC crash, it’s something else… something related to hardware directly.

Battle.net app is the definition of Malware

In the game settings, the gear cog next to start, on battlenet there is an option to close the Bnet Launcher when you launch a game, thank me later.

You enter a strange jungle terrain full of poisonous creepy crawlies & sinister cults… you see a cellar… you go… IN? :upside_down_face:

Nope, even with Battle.net deactivated and even its hardware acceleration deactivated, when you use a town portal, it crash the PC.

If you keep transitioning between portals eventually the fps lags. I can see the mem usage or swap usage getting higher.

seems like SSD issue, try to scan it using proper app, just do some tests on your SSD

My SSD is a fresh new M2 card, that works fine with every softwares. So I doubt it’s an SSD issue. It’s more a code issue I think.

I really doubt it. Issue only started with VoH. My PC is good right before VoH.

Other folks are getting fps drops too (maybe a diff issue). I am able to replicate the fps and massive stuttering

Yeah I have never seen the portal crash myself, though I know people are experiencing it.
I used to get blue screens when the game first launched and have tweaked a lot since. Now it is only the not so infrequent Fenris error for me which can be even more annoying.
But at least there are no hard crashes of the pc.

That smell beginners coders… just saying…
So ok, I’m done with D4 for this season. PC crash is too much for me.
Good luck.
