I feel like the whole concept of Mythic uniques were better when it was near impossible to get one.
That’s kinda what the game is missing right now. Those carrot on a stick chase items that take a long time to get, if ever at all. Everyone’s just farming bosses getting the same items over and over again. Say whatever you want about set items from D3, but it felt really really good when you finally found the last piece to make the build work. In D4 it’s too easy to find the one or two items you need to make your build work. Then it gives you a sense of ‘nothing to do’ because your character is complete; outside of spamming pits over and over again without leaderboards.
The way I’d fix this is to just made mythics drop randomly from open-world content again instead. Just bump up the drop rate ever so slightly to make it feasible. Not only does this keep the boss farm from being the only thing you do anymore, but it also makes the open-world feel more alive; especially in hell tides which don’t offer much these days besides XP.

They have no meaning with how common they are. I expect my mythics within the first week of the season and have always got them and more.
Im a casual player as well tho first week I will but in like 20 hours including the first weekend.
I wish there was no smart loot, rare items, non-D3 itemization, removing boss matts and adding MF gear system.

Mythics in general also need major buffs across the board. And Andy’s Visage nerf should be reverted…my god that was a stupid nerf.

I think, there is simply not enough item content in the game. Or they are not really balanced.
I mean, some builds have 6 multipliers, some 3 (i may overexaggerate here a little bit). Of course the 6 multi build is stronger and usually chosen by the players.
I think, their idea was, to make mythics as items, that more or “all” builds can use, whle uniques or legendaries are build defining. That is ok for me.
Albey i also would like it to be the other way around. Mythics push a special build abnd uniques are “all can use them”.
And yeah, mythics that let you for example play with skills from other classes would be prime in my eyes. A magebow or a rougepolearm for example.

If we are talking Legendary and “I’m just fine in T3” then true. Some of the most important Uniques and even Ancestrals are in my experience this season and last , pretty darn hard to find. Even then you still need to masterwork crit and maybe temper them as well.
I guess what I’m really saying is, what actual planet are you playing D4 on and may I come and join you? Also, do you have (presumably) an amulet with GA good passive that I can have? I’d also settle for a decent Mantle of Mountain’s Fury 'cause here I sit at p270 and I’m still rocking a Legendary. I would offer in return dozens of my worthless Mythics is that were possible.

I’ve got 3 in the last week, but scrapped them all. I don’t know how “good” they were, but while it did look a tempting item, I’m not sure it would have helped my build that much. But I’m a clueless, unskilled casual – I’m not joking – so maybe a couple good tempers & MWing might have made it TeH Winnaz.
I have no mythics & am in T1-2, & as you say, Ancestral Legendaries are all I need to do what I do.
I’ve played over 400 hours. Never seen a mythic drop…not once…and I’ve done a lot of boss runs. Feels impossible to me.

Then you’re doing something wrong.
I’ve got 150 h in S8 and just dropped one this week…
And all the other seasons i got severall. Even S6 / S7 was a mythic drop fest…
Why not farm belial for his scrolls, make an alt, use the scrolls to max out the rep…get a SPARK, and repeat the entire process again.
You’ll get a mythic up to IMO 99.1% Faster then just farming bosses.
Then you are just unlucky.
I’ve gotten 8 Mythics this season and i have not done that many belial.

i mean, even if he was unlucky… you can literally get secure mythics from the seasonal journey and certain first time seasonal achievements.
mythics really are anything, but rare.

Really. Playing the game…that’s it. T3. I’m not playing seasons, though I have played…what two season? Maybe three…not sure…they were very forgettable at the time…never got a drop there either. And when I say never I REALLY mean never. I have one…what crystal? Crystal to make one…and that was from the cache that everyone got…maybe during the goblin event. Currently just in Eternal. Maybe mythics don’t drop in Eternal…who knows, but there it is.
Me not
We ain’t got long time. 3 month seasons.
That is my feeling about d4, acuratly described.
I found a 3 GA Ring of Starless and 4 GA Azurewrath in the first two weeks of the season. That character is basically done at that point lol. Obviously I got lucky and not everyone will encounter the same luck every season. But my point is that it shouldn’t feel like you’re done once your build is done. Unless you’re an extremely hardcore player trying to min/max up to the nearest decimal, most casual/average players aren’t trying to do that crap and will get bored real fast. They just want the item with the special power, most casuals like me they won’t care about the stats.
I’m personally not into any of the other classes and don’t like making alts. Sorc is the only class I enjoy playing and even they have been pretty bland since release.
Patiently waiting for Crusader or the Paladin.

describes my s3 actually, got super lucky in the first days. for sure shortened the season for me.
i honestly think that the people that claim “they never get mythics” hardly play the game anyway. Dont get me wrong, thats fine, but why should the game be balanced around people that need their dopamine rush every 3.4542 minutes.

TLDR - In Eternal, yes but not in Seasons. Also many Mythics are designed to almost be a necessity for certain builds which in and of itself, is a problem.
I would love a grindy version of D4 for Eternal that constantly gets added onto and there is always progression. Item drops would be lower but there would be more power creep available. Seasons due to their very short shelf-life should have everything sped up. As it stands now, Mythic drop rates for Seasons are far too low - especially when Mythics can roll with up to 4 GAs and the Affixes can roll in a range like any other common item.
This would be my preference as well. You pointed out soundly why this can help the game to feel less like going through a checklist.
Generally, the game should have at least one unpredictable loot type, something that isnt target-farmable in any way. Mythics would be a good fit because they are not directly linked to classes or skills, but they can still make players very happy.
One may argue that the genie is out of the bottle in that regard. No going back without a sh*tstorm. However, it is still possible to add several new mythic items or something different that will not drop at all from bosses.
It doesnt necessarily has to be something power-related in my opinion. Cosmetics would be cool as well.

The problem is that mythics are too common for how spamable bosses are so I think they could be nerfed some but saying that the drop rates were better when the game launched is just a bad take cause it was too non existent to be a chase item

agreed, early on they were not chase items at all, they were a lottery win. i still remember the wowhead thread about the first confirmed mythic that dropped, which was like… i think 2-3 weeks later than the s1 release?
