Mythics - an eternal conundrum

I wanted to address some issues I have with Mythic itemization.

  1. We should not be able to craft them.
  2. They should be harder to get but easy enough to get enough of them in a season to hit meta builds in 3 months.
  3. They should be retroed on all changes.
  4. If you want to create a long loot process, require shards to masterwork them to 12.
    1 shard per level 1-4 → get a crit. 3 shards per level 5-8 - get another crit, 9-12 9 shards.

This will give the long loot chase on something easy to get.

If you salvage a masterworked Mythic, you should get 1/3 of your shards back.

Resetting should cost significant mats and gold, instead of 5 million, perhaps 1 billion gold and a hundred prisms, maybe 25 royal gems of each type etc etc. However since you can just get a new mythic and start over, it probably just needs to be rolled back 1 crit.

So I envision, you get a mythic, you upgrade to level 4 with 4 shards. You don’t like what you get, you probably just salvage the piece.

If you get the crit you want, you can go to 8, and reset down to 4, if you don’t hit the crit you want at 8, so forth and so on.

Mythics would then really be worth that grind and clearly should get retroed.

A fully upgraded perfect mythic would then require 4 + 12 + 36 = 52 shards assuming you don’t roll back.

Thanks

  1. mythics shall have 0 chance to drop. in this way players will infinetely farm for them which will be healthy for the game

I think herein lies the issue. I don’t think Blizzard wants to prolong the loot process except for people who will spend the time perfecting their gear through tempering and master working.

Their whole philosophy lately has been to get the items to the players first, then let the players play the RNG game in perfecting said items. That’s how it feels anyway.

It also makes sense why they made these changes because the vast majority asked for it. Now while people like you and I may not agree with this, we are a very small minority.

I’ve no issues with certain pieces of loot actually being rare. There are items amongst various ARPGs I still haven’t found to this day due to the rarity. Which is perfectly fine. Didn’t stop me from enjoying the game mind you.

However the industry and the mindset of the players has changed, or maybe their mindset never changed and they’ve always wanted loot to drop like candy who knows.

Well, yes and no, Iggi, what was one of the hallmark of D3 was being able to have different exit points relative to your personal playstyle.

Here if you basically are into just getting the mythic itself and don’t really care of the upgrades, you’re good.

If you need a fully completed gear but don’t care about what crits, you got it.

If you need the crits and the ultimate perfect piece of gear then you go the long haul.

This allows people who FEAST on the game in seasons to probably have completed gear by 3 months with hard farming of the torms.

Okay, but as long as I get to keep mine as is and this only applies to the new players.

Overall not a fan here. Only agree with retro part IE mythics are never legacy.

Gotta negotiate.

For us to get retro probably needs to be harder to attain but under 3 months because of seasonal there is a sweet spot for this on general playing habits if they metric it.

Crafting breaks loot find. I am 100% against this. Loot chase is critical aspect of this game for many people. This was a design decision that was bad.

Getting a mythic is going to be good enough for most people. The power scaling with upgrades could be decreased so that it wouldn’t necessarily be a must have but nice to have.

The very fact that i know enough players that have excess sparks for crafting alone and can day 0 a full set is a problem.

Disagree. ITs a nice forgiveness feature that players use to get needed mythics in a reasonable time frame. We can satisfy both camps with a new type of mythical item that cannot be crafted. Alternate Cosmetic Mythics! 1 in 100 mythics will be alternate cosmetic drops. These drops have a dark purple beam when on ground and a louder sound when found. These cosmetic drops cannot be crafted. Everyone wins.

See my zero day comment i just added.

This is something that must be addressed and/ or removed.

See i think we dont have retro because we can craft.

I would rather have retro and lose craft.

If you had to pick one or the other urza, you would prefer craft it seems, which is okay.

That would align with current design then.

I prefer when it was really impossible to get them in S0/S1. I think it’s really fun when suddenly you can get them from Helltides.

Vast majority of players are not crafting any mythics for a week or two. These are extreme cases with streamers playing 18h in a day with ppl helping them with donated mats. This doesnt apply to 99.9% of the playerbase.

I didnt feel I missed something in S0 when uber are impossible to get.

D4 had become easier by the season when 9 to 5 dad with 3 wives and 9 children keep on cryin and complain that the game are too hard, items are hard to get.

First they ask for Uber to be able to be farmed, then they need uber to have max value, after that they want uber to be crafted.

The Dev gave it all without a blink. pity the dev are controlled by crybabies.

I feel the same way.

These are to be the penultimate pieces of gear. Not something easier to get than a well rolled unique.

Getting a perfect unique secondary will appropriate high/max roll affixes is harder.

Thats a problem.

I know people who have 3 of each uber before getting a 0.3 / plus 4 / 65% winterglass.

Now i can get shackles at like 150k a stack so lol…tells you how bad it is.

Nah it’s the non working basement dwelling prepubscent teen tryhard sweatlords chugging 20 energy drinks a day to go with their taco bell family pack adamantly insisting that the season journey can’t be completed in a day with or without these changes that ruin the game.

Im over 50 and hold a good job…so… lol.

Im a basement dweller 20 something at heart though so not really disagreeing.

@urza
I have at least 4 or 5 people in my clan with over 15 sparks in their mats not including about 3 of each they are just holding or wearing. So its much more common than you know.

huh? so you think its the hardcore gamer that are asking for the game to be easier?

Where’s the logic in that?

Wasn’t talking down to you, ’m so sick of the “lolz teh gamer dads with 12 jobs 3 wives aren’t I clever” tripe.

This “gamer dad” recognizes that the game doesn’t take the skill so many insist that it does and sorry not sorry not everyone wants to spend every waking minute playing the game because we do have other obligations.

I imagine the person I responded to thinks farming IH 7-8 is a testament to their leet skill.

I get it bro, totally. Its cool lol i just emulate that. So its partially true and is a valid generalization.

Hardcore gamer playing an ARPG? Oh so because you spend a lot of time playing the game you are “hardcore”? Cuz season journey takes 12-24 hours of total playtime, at best.

The only “challenge” and competitive area most of you don’t participate in anyway.
