My Thoughts on Season 9 Balances/Nerfs

I think alot of people are focusing on the numbers which makes 0 difference… I couldn’t care less if we were doing 10 damage max, or a trillion damage minimum, I just want the power fantasy of blowing things up and one shotting and wiping the screen clear and feeling like an actual Nephalem.

The problem with these “nerf’s” or balances for lack of better words, are they are bringing the higher performing classes down “and generally all things down” rather than buffing the weaker builds up. Nobody likes being brought down and I think I speak for a majority of players “or maybe not” that it gets really lame when we all have to choose X build because it is performing 30 pit levels higher than another build X. Like I want to play an earthquake barb and use HOTA and watching lava explosions blow up the screen. Guess what, now I really can’t because ugly bastard helm nerf, earthquake nerf, 2h mace nerf and a plethora of other nerfs for barb across the board. Yeah sure I can still play it but then I get into T4, do a public event and some META build Sorc or whatever class, it doesn’t matter because some dev decided for the rest of the entire community that nope, I want this build to be META and only this build. It really seems that they just pick one build per class for each season to perform well and it doesn’t feel good at all it makes me feel like I’m spending 10 minutes clearing things when this other guy has the power fantasy that I crave but I don’t want to play a necro or sorc or pets barb build or whatever meta build that some random blizzard dev decided to put on the pedestal this season. All builds across the board should be within 5 pits of each other. No more no less…

When you swing the pendulum so far to one side or the other, it no longer balances the scale, it tips the scale. They need to stop it with these 100% buffs and nerfs and take it 5-10% at a time and slowly start bringing other classes up to par with each other and make all builds viable and fun for every single season.

After the very initial stages of the game, you can always do this. The only thing that changes is what the difficulty indicator says, and the difficulty primarily drives the rewards.

In the current state there is zero reason to push higher. The only gain you get from more difficulty is more garbage to recycle.

I am really hoping Blizz finally figures out a way to drop gear relevant to the level of gear you are wearing already. Sure not everything can be a winner. But what am I going to do with 750’s once I am in all ancestral?

I really think too many complain way too much. Play the game to the best you can personally achieve.

If you want to struggle to grow your character, jump up torment and pit runs. You want to clear screens of monsters, play down a torment… D4 actually allows both.

Are you playing PTR?

I am eager to try my new Druid/Pet build. :upside_down_face:

DOT builds should do pretty good based on how well the seasonal power around that works.

I will jump in after work today as there are some interesting things in season 9 with the Horadric gems I believe making to the base game when launched.

I want to look at the Druid too and also the huge hydra.

I don’t care about the nerfs or the meta. It will always perform better than others.

I even like the nerfs, but I’m worried about the ceilings. This takes away the build variation because we will always have better performance. If I play Incinerate, Firewall or Hydra, all with burn. The one with the highest damage per second will perform better. Because I can’t exceed the node’s burn ceiling. Before, I would have to sacrifice affixes to increase my damage. Now that’s not possible. Because I will reach 90% maximum power faster. And nothing else will matter.

Did they fire their psychology department? It feels like it.

If they said, “and we’re nerfing all content to compensate” maybe these S9 changes would have went over a bit better.
