I understand dying in the game itself. Im fine with that. But how the hell does my character die in the damn character selection menu? I logged outside a dungeon entrance. There were other players there around me and no enemies in sight at all. was sitting chilling in the character select and a few seconds later a message pops up in the character select “my characters is now dead and added to my hardcore log”?! like my character was still there in the slots. but kept saying error when i tried to start the game with it. logged into softcore character and went back out. still there. but then rebooted the game and it was gone. like what is this??
I know it’s called hardcore but holy, dying in the character selection screen. That’s a first.

Were you farming the dungeon with the 8 Layout? cause if yes there is trash mobs that explode outside that dungeon might be that you logged out char despawned too late and got blown up.

Not sure it was just a random dungeon in Kawezar. But nah it wasnt the exploding ones. i looked at my character death log and it said i died to a “putrid remains” pretty sure thats the slow low hitting zombo. i was a necro too with 7 minions and a barrier so I’m like what? how.
Same exact thing happened to me, but I also had Flame Shield Enchantment and full resources. They will never acknowledge that any bugs were involved, and they will not help you in any way. It should not even be possible for the screen to transition to character select using the normal leave game feature if your character is still in the world; how could you log back into that character if it’s still in game anyway?
Why aren’t you guys teleporting to town before log out? Loading times in/out of dungeons are pretty lengthy considering. When you go out, sometimes respawns already happened, so you got to be mindful about that too, doesn’t take a lot of hits to be dead, when the monsters out level you 
Not the worst way to go, and now we know it can happen.

This. I’ve been playing too much Grim Dawn and POE lately, I forgot to port to town once and died. Lesson learned. ALWAYS port to town before you log out.
im going to take a stab at it and say while in the open world you loged out and instead of waiting for the 10sec count down timer you clicked leave game and that not a smart thing to do in hc. if you click leave game and don’t wait for the timer you can die. so not a bug
Tell that to Quin. There is now a full video of being able to die in HC during town portal transition screen from a fully cleared map inside invulnerability bubble. The game is just broken, I literally died in a load screen too the same way from full resources even with the Flame Shield Enchantment.
