My diablo 4 game review. New player with 3 weeks of play

I knew D4 would lack depth, that’s why I waited to play since beta. I spent an honest 3 full time weeks trying hard to enjoy it.

It lacks some serious depth, love and pride from the devs or lacks serious direction.
The glyphs/paragon and their stats are unintuitive, convoluted and just boring. (the system is interesting in theory) how ever I hate most of the situational damage stats (which is most of what is in there), far/close, healthy/injured, elite damage, damage while, damage to. It just makes finding damage tedious and boring. Those stats belong on optional socketable jewels, not as our main source of damage. Uniques are constrained, convoluted and boring. Skill trees are extremely limited, constraining build diversity. Tempering stats are plain and unintriguing. Ultimate damage, core damage, basic damage only add to the problem of build convolution and encourages 1 button game play.

The gearing options per class/build are shockingly limited in D4 and I waited 2 years to play it lol… The skills in this game lack impact. When I first cast Charged Bolts I laughed out loud. It looks like an infants first spell cast. It has 0 impact. In fact none of the games abilities have impact. The mobs in this game are terrible and their abilities are plain, random, too big and tedious.

The only things I actually like about the diablo 4 skill system are the Codex imprints and the runes because they are quick to test out and they open up build ideas, theory crafting, build diversity. We need double the codex Imprints and double the runes so we can start building what we want. The citadel is interesting but lacks depth, undercity is interesting but lacks depth ( I feel it should be a highly rewarding daily or something), the pit sucks and lacks depth. I liked the incursions. The world events lack depth. Riding my horse to helltide and legion events never felt worth it.

Aside from the confused skill system and poor power creep. The map design is just bad. I hate every map aside from the open world and even that is just different colors of the same thing.
The end game is the most basic system I could of imagined. You literally just stand in one place and kill bosses. The pit is poorly implemented.

Why are there so many fn difficulty selections? It was my first red flag. You have got to understand that only divides the player base and makes things more complicated to balance.
Why cant we just make a party named what we want?
Why can’t you search all text elements in the paragon and skill tree?
Why are there no leveling uniques or set items?
Let us search for equipable items in my stash.
Give us more stash tabs.
Why are there so few uniques and mythics?
Why is the seasonal event seemingly a reskin of last seasons event?
Why are there not more epic scale world events?
No auction house is a massive buzzkill.

B/c the game was & continues to be designed around controller/console. It didn’t cross their mind. Their collective imagination was exhausted after adding basic search to Stash, and they’ve had to take an extended hiatus from such strenuous development work, until their neurons settle. Patience.

You outed yourself here. I new player wouldn’t know or care.

Why are you pretending to be a new player?
Are you paid by GGG or some other institution to badmouth D4?
Do you have an agenda vs D4? Then why pretend to be a new player and not say directly?
Why do you pretend a new player would care about stash space?

I have to say your attempt was more elaborate than the one from the other “new player” who supposedly tried to level 3 chars to level 20 and gave up :joy:

RMT can die btw. and D3 is not a Diablo game.

You don’t have to pay someone if the game is really bad. This is exactly the case.

sure, but the problem is D4 = D3 2.0

It’s turning into that if people keep crying when their favorite build can’t hit for 1 trillion damage anymore.

Thank you for your subjective review which is probably about another game, but we’ll take it. take care.
Seriously i read the first paragraph and I was like, what is he talking about…and I have to tell you I’m not very happy with Diablo 3.5, I’m a fan of D4vanilla.

Hmmm. Long Time since i played D3 endgame but i think in Terms of Numbers D4 IS already more extrem then D3…?

to be honest, I don’t understand what you’re talking about at all, because since the preseason it was d3 2.0, they just tried to hide it. At some point, they stopped doing it. In this game, absolutely all core mechanics are from Diablo 3.

Please stop kidding yourself if the damage numbers will get higher or lower and the dropchance or leveling time will increase or decrease, it will not cease to be d3.

No, until D4 gets to 40,000% damage bonuses on a single item, or quadrillions / quintillions of damage it’s nowhere near.

(Let me remind you a quadrillion is 1000 trillion, 1000x higher than the strongest broken build right now)

The itemization is completely different. You’re not farming set bonuses that get 1% better for each higher level rift you run. The endgame is completely different. The progression is completely different. it’s not D3 2.0. Not yet.

If you dislike someting you can say what and why. No need to pretend to be a “new player” and for the infantile adult posturing.
I was thinking about paid badmouthing because it was the second time with another account and just as poorly articulated as the first one alas more elaborate.
D4 was turning into D3. Again, D3 is not a Diablo game and D4 will further stray from any semblance to it from S9 on.
D3 fans can just keep playing D3 and pretend it is a Diablo game, no problem.

unfortunately, the problem is that it is exactly the same. If you divide the sets into pieces, call them aspects and repaint them in a different color, the meaning will not change. If you call primals 4GA, or call ancients - Greater affix it doesn’t change the meaning, etc. etc.

Those are Just Trolls.
As If ggg or any Other company would pay people to badmouth Blizz.

What for. Blizz creates shiitstorm one after another themself.

Reforged, you dont have phones, you think you do but you dont, Milk, Cosby.

I mean. ITS all over the. Place.

Scattered responses:

“New” players can read & watch videos to “know” a season is “recycled”. It’s not an outing, it’s at worst a cheap trolling. Anyone can do it, “new” or “old”. The criticism stands on its own IMO, and can be countered on its own terms. D4 studio hasn’t made that easy. That’s why nobody ever tries.

D4 =/= D3. D3 is an uglier, more solo-focused game with more mature systems that’ve evolved over a decade into a pretty fun loop. D4 is figuring out how to achieve a fun loop, and it has a rough road ahead of it (given that core systems are being designed and redesigned for the foreseeable future).

Quadrillions damage in D4 were achieved several times over the past year. Multipliers placed accidentally in 4-5 obscure places (D4), vs deliberately in one visible place (D3) only implies that one team was executing on a plan, and the other team is constantly befuddled by their own mysterious creation - I’ll leave the reader to sort out which is which.

Anyway, quadrillions, quintillions… absolutely meaningless. A non-argument. Just add a few zeros to mob hp & you’ve fixed the problem, right? Of course not. So the number of zeroes isn’t the problem, duh.

True, infantile adults took over online spaces. Kids are sometimes more reasonable for at least not being entitled.

Nope, this looks very crudely made, I know professional trolls. They are very smart people. The last “new player” thread and this one leave a lot to be desired, crude attempts at best. To me, seems more like an active attempt to discredit D4 with an agenda. Probably because infantile adults are losing their grip on the general section.

just lower your expectations and treat Diablo 4 as the entry level to PoE2 and Last Epoch.
dude’s gotta suck on milk before having beers. step by step, ok.

My expectations in D2 where very high and IT surpassed IT.

My expectations of D3 where astronomicly and IT almost Hit EM.

My expectations for D4 where rather Low and IT flew under IT easaly.

I expect Diablo to never reach ITS heights again.

I think i am better Off somewhere Else. Maybe TQ 2. Looks promising.

lol you outed yourself as a fan boi

I spent much time thinking on how d4 could be improved , made more fun, and i always come to the same conclusion, no matter how good you make NMD’s , infernal hordes etc… with the current loot/itemization the fun will always be limited.

I was thinking imagine d4 bossing taking us back to D2/D3 boss areas with d2/d3 bosses which to me sounds amazing but the itemization would hold this idea back …

I play the came from time to time , just makes me sad how much they are working on improving the game but it doesnt seem to be doing the trick.
Anyways i still have copium that one day i will love the game, hope it happens.
