I noticed from the start character movement seemed off. Tonight I finally figured out what was driving me crazy while fighting Elias in the T4 Capstone. The fight is way harder than it should be because of this, let me explain.
Here’s an example of what seems broken and how to repeat:
- Find an easily recognizable area on the ground far enough away from your character that you can click and hold the mouse button down for more than 1 second.
- After having held the mouse button down for anywhere between 100ms to 1 second, release the button and observe where your character actually stops.
You’ll notice your character has stopped several feet beyond where you clicked. How is this acceptable movement in a game that offers hardcore gameplay? There is no way to actually plan where your character will stop unless you click and immediately release.
Is this really intentional? It’s driving me absolutely nuts now that I’ve realized it.

Uh, that’s not movement being broken. That’s a you problem.
Why are you holding down mouse if you want to stop? Holding down the mouse keeps you moving in the direction of your cursor.
Give it a try in game. The issue is your character won’t stop where you clicked. In a fight like Elias you need to be able to stop in an exact spot to avoid being one shot. If you hold your mouse button down for more than 100ms you won’t stop on the intended spot.
Click and release if you want to do that. Click and hold is for continuous movement.
Again, this is a you problem. Stop holding the mouse. Just click where you want to go.
EDIT: Also, Elias in the capstone dungeon doesn’t have one-shot abilities unless you are like 10-15 levels below 70.
If you release the mouse button before traveling beyond the spot you clicked it seems reasonable you would stop where you clicked right?
No, because your character is the center of the screen.
As your character moves, the screen moves with it.
So if you are holding the mouse, then the location where you release it is not the same location as where you clicked. It is further in that direction. That’s why you’re going beyond where you clicked.
I tested this theory as well. You’ll stop far beyond any spot you release the mouse on. It’s almost as if your character has inertia which is weird.
I can only tell you how it works, mate. If you want to continue arguing something different, feel free.
So like if you you just click to move and not hold down you don’t go to where you clicked ? I’m not in game atm so I can’t test. But that seems rly unlikely
But yeah Icenine explains it pretty well with holding the mouse button down
Yeah it’s super bizarre. Give it a try when you’re in game next time. Once you try it it’s one of those things you can’t unsee.
Yes, but when you hold it you do too, but as you keep walking forward where your cursor was when you initially clicked is not where your cursor is now because you moved further.
You are always going to move the distance between your character and the cursor. Does that make sense?
I mean in reality it doesn’t effect me . I don’t ever click and like wait for my guy to get there . Even in capstone to get into t4 at lvl 56, and yes you get one shot by everything, I don’t see it that way. I see my char as a continuous movement . Even when I want to stand still I just click 180s back and forth b/t points on opposite sides of my guy which like I’m in the same place but I’m moving still. My char faces one direction and the faces the other. . Guess that’s like a MOBA mechanic not sure ? But in this game to make it easier you can just hold the mouse button down and just swing your mouse 180s
The OP isn’t wrong. Literally take the tip of your cursor and aim exactly where you want your character to stop. Just click once to move you to that location. Marvel at how your character doesn’t stop where you clicked, but a couple yards past that point in whatever direction you were traveling. You can repeat it infinitely. You actually have to anticipate this if you want to stop on a precise location and have your cursor placed just prior to the exact point you want to stop at.
Yeah makes sense. Basically to test:
-
find a pixel that is noticeable in game. Like a small rock pebble on the ground .
-
Have your char 10 yards away and click on the pebble.
-
Char goes past the pebble
I still think that’s not a good habit of movement . But hey , do ur thing. But besides that , yes it should be fixed
It seems like the longer you hold the mouse down also the farther you travel beyond the point you clicked. So 100ms is something like 1-2 feet in game beyond the point clicked. 1-2 seconds and you wind up several more feet beyond.
Because it’s not where you clicked per se, it’s where your cursor is when you stop clicking.
…s-ahem-tfu…mate
you’re not fooling anyone
Makes sense . Horse has that known mechanic that further mouse is held faster horse goes. Wonder if that system is like kinda played in regular movement and is not intended
Movement and targetting are both wonky at times. You’ll clearly be clicking on an elite to attack and your character will be attacking somewhere else. I’ve noticed the same thing with movement as you have. It happens when you use travel skill too. Makes you overshoot where you are going. It is really bad with Shadowstep at times. I’ve also noticed having to hit a key multiple times for it to fire which happens quite a bit. Dodge is also broken at times. I mostly notice it with the mobs that put the straight line on the ground. You’ll hit dodge and nothing happens then their skill fires and your dodge will fire after you get hit.
