My mouse has 5 bindable buttons for D4.
The 2 top mains, the mouse wheel can be pressed down and can be bound as mouse button 3.
Then there are two buttons on the left side of the mouse that binds as 4 and 5. What people call the “side buttons”, and they come standard on most mouse today.
For whatever reason, abilities bound to mouse button 5 (2nd side button) will not cast if I the button while moving (making the abilities useless sometimes). I have to stop other moving then press mouse button 5 for it to work
Just wondering if anyone else is having similar issues with mouse button keybinds. Mouse button 4 (the other button on the left of my mouse that binds) executes abilities cast while moving perfectly.
Could I have some option turned on that is interfering somehow?
I use the side buttons as keybinds in many other games and haven’t had issues yet.
That being said, for those of you with no issues bind the side buttons on your mouse, could you tell me what mouse your using for D4?
Thanks all

I think I have the same issue, I was thinking of purchasing a new mouse but decided to check if there was a fix or not.
Can you rebind the buttons within your mouse software?
I rebound mine so that M4 is [ and M5 is ], and then the button near my mousewheel is F5.
This makes it so that no games have issues detecting the buttons (because from the games perspective it just sees keyboard inputs) - which some games do have issues detecting - and it should(?) also solve your issue, I believe
You would have to also rebind your browser keybinds if you still want them to go forwards/backwards on pages, but that’s simple enough
I’ll see if I can do that in Window’s settings, but this is a stock mouse that didn’t have any external software, log those Logitech’s where you can map to keyboard buttons outside of a game.
Also, am I limited to 6 hotbar buttons only? What happens if I have more abilities than what I can put on the hotbar?
Ah… Yeah I’m not sure of a solution if your mouse has no software. Does it not have a brand at all? I thought all mice with extra buttons had some kind of software support
Yes, you are limited to 6 buttons. If you have more abilities than what you can put on the bar, then you essentially can’t use them unless you swap them out mid combat (I’m actually not sure you can even swap mid combat… I imagine it might prevent you from doing it whilst fighting)
I have a similar 5-button mouse and M5 gets bound to a skill fine. No problems here.
I see. So my build must focus on 6 skills only?
Pretty much. I mean you could run more and maybe swap based on AoE vs bosses? But I’m not sure it would be optimal
But if you do that, you’re taking away +X levels from the 6 skills you use most routinely.
Yup, that’s why I said I’m not sure it’d be optimal. It’s just possible
I tried both M4 amd M5 during the betas and they worked fine. I guess this is your issue. Maybe some software bind a shortcut to your M5. GeForce software likes to mess with UI for example or any mouse macros soft
I’ll check into the GeForce stuff. Maybe my GeForce Experience Software is having an effect.
Whether it works or not, I’m no longer concerned, I can’t believe we just get 6 abilities. Inclusive of Basic, Core, Ultimate, Defense anf Mobility. It’s nutso.
Do you have MB5 bound to a spell that requires you to hold still?
Nope.
It does the same thing with any and all abilities. Cannot cast/activate anything while moving.

My guess (could be wrong of course) is that internally your mouse is sending something like “alt + left arrow” (maybe ctrl) - this is what my mouse does if I set them to “go back” or “go forward” within the software, and I imagine that might be the default for some mice due to people expecting them to navigate web pages
Within my software I also have “Back” and “Forward” - now, don’t ask me why there’s both “go back” and “back”, but what I can tell you is that they function differently within games. Recently when I was on “go back”, a game would detect it as “alt + left arrow” which works fine for some games, but if alt is a crucial keybind, then it can mess things up. Whereas “back” would show as “M4” ingame
It’s possible that unbinding alt / ctrl / shift within the game might fix your issue? But then you’d have to find new spots for anything that’s bound on those
