Mount cooldown - a simple change

Currently, whenever you dismount - regardless of the reason - there is a cooldown before you can mount again. This seems unnecessary. Here’s a simple fix:

If I get knocked off my mount involuntarily because mobs are hitting me, give the mount a cooldown.

If I dismount voluntarily, there should be no cooldown on the mount. Having to wait to mount again after climbing down a cliff etc is pretty annoying.

Also, it would be nice if we could use Spur in town.

There shouldn’t be a CD timer at all for mounting/unmounting the horse. It’s a completely stupid system that someone had to approve while being blindfolded and the designer said “it’s good, trust me bro”.

Just make a druid.

Then you can zoom around faster than a mount and not worry about dismounting.

This is 100% my take on how it can be improved. Do exactly this.

Or mount a druid.
Wait…

Baldur’s gate 3 has entered the chat.

If there’s no cooldown for getting knocked off the mount, then your mount offers invulnerability anywhere you can use a mount.

Did you type that while blindfolded with someone dictating to you and saying “it’s good, trust me bro” ?

I’m w/ op, cooldown could be removed or lessened when you’re just dismounting to climb a wall, but getting knocked off for your mount taking too much damage, that cooldown makes sense as a penalty.

Its funny, in WoW there is no mount cooldown. Just a short cast to initially mount. Also no mount cooldown in cities. Why is it 8 seconds outside? Why not 9? Why not 7? Why not 0?

I have lots of “whys” about game design decisions with this game

  1. There should be NO cd on mounting your horse. Why is that even a thing? It makes no sense.
  2. Horse “endurance”, I thought Donan gave us a horse, not some half dead nag that can’t run strong.
  3. if you happen to get the ghost horse, it should let you phase through enemies.
  4. horses should either jump over or just plow through barriers.

No, but it appears that is exactly what you did.
Show me where I mentioned getting knocked off the mount not having a CD.

Right here:

You quote both paragraphs of the OP, including the one about the cooldown for getting knocked off, and then you say the cooldown shouldn’t exist “at all.”

Not my fault if you word your responses that ambiguously.

It’s not my fault that you fail at reading comprehension.

Here is what I said: Let my type slower this time so you might understand it…

"There shouldn’t be a CD timer at all for mounting/unmounting the horse. "

Notice my clever use of the words mounting and unmounting.
Where did I say that this means getting knocked off your mount?

My theory on this is they didn’t want to bother dealing with the mount boost/charge/gallop whatever cooldowns resetting while you unmounted then remounted so they just put a cooldown in.

Well, there has to be a cooldown when you get knocked off your mount by mobs. Otherwise you can just mount up and run away again after being knocked off. I guess they could make it so you can’t mount while in combat, but that would be worse in my opinion.

On knockdown, sure but if you dismount yourself, then there shouldn’t.

That’s what I said in my original post.

you can exploit this one… basically run on the mount, use up your 3 charges of speed, dismount and remount and get 3 fresh charges to burn thru  boom unlimited zooming

It seems likely that they can make it so your charges aren’t automatically refreshed upon re-mounting. Surely that cooldown can continue to tick in the background.

Can I use the defense “I need more coffee” lol.
