Most everyone wanted to play Summoner/Minion Necromancer

Blizzard made it suck. Why?

I’m trying to find an exciting class for Season 1, but everywhere I look it’s mediocrity and bad.

It’s upsetting. Play how you want, my butt.

None of the classes are exciting to me, but Minion Necromancer is the most disappointing to me, because I really wanted it to be good.

I hope they buff Minion Necromancer on the 18th.

I started with a Necro and hope to revisit it in season 2/3, possibly. Fingers crossed they’ll have tweaked it enough that minions are viable in endgame.

Currently minions function as a support to your Necro or used as a mean to deliver/transfer damage (Mendeln build).

They serve only one purpose in my build: sacrificial bonuses.

I just made a necro yesterday. And i can see why people play them atleast getting through the leveling stage. I want to play a barb, But i feel the barb is too clunky and weak at leveling. I played a barb and demon hunter in D3 and I can say the barb in D3 is better at leveling then in D4. I hope Blizzard addresses this at some point. Mainly the resource cost of core skills.

Does not = what you want being the most or even viable in a competitive ranking.

You can totally play what you want though.

I don’t want to be competitive. I want to have fun.

The minions are actually good til at least lvl60, at which point you could start integrating some blood, bone, or shadow variants.

It only gets ‘bad’ when you start pushing high NMD.

So if you don’t want to be competitive, by all means play minion necro.

BTW Blizz seems to not want you to play as a “lazy Skeleton Commander” who sits at the back. Notice that enemies prioritize you when they are in range and they go through your minions to get you. If this was not the case, pushing higher NMs would be far easier with minions helping you.

I hear you. I started with Druid, loved it, switched to minion nec and haven’t looked back.

I do wish minims were so darn perfectly designed as to move quick to targets, never die, take all aggro, attack your target when it’s a priority, and just swarming enemies while you play dungeon master with them.

I get that maybe they don’t want that play style - but why not allow both play styles? It’s a video game. Who cares. It’s what most ppl want with Necro and minions.

Can only hope for the best!

Has there ever been a time when lazy summoner was a thing? Even the fishymancer still had the necromancer cursing, corpse exploding and managing the minions/revives. They never actually cleared harder content all on their own.

This game is not about being better than other players. So, the competitive nonsense can go fish.

If they didn’t want you to be able to specialize in minions, they wouldn’t have put those paragon boards in there. Nor would they have put so many passives in the abilities tree and on gear.

Bottom line is, minions aren’t what they are suppose to be and it’s disheartening to players that enjoy minions.

It’s similar for other classes.

Want to play with fire as a sorceress? Useless.
Iconic skills frozen orb, fireball, meteor, and chain lightning? Useless. Want to be a ranged caster instead of melee? Weak.

The way D4 is built players can collect the most multipliers to pile on a skill to make it clear tough content, and skills without scaling elements are ignored.
Viability will likely be much more spread out in say 6-12 months, but launch specs are limited in number.

You could the base campaign in D2 easily with a monionmancer. CE just amped your damage considerably.

Anyone can fumble through the normal campaign. 1-30 on normal isn’t representative of anything.

In D2 you can clear hell with a minionmancer, even without CE. It’ll just be slower than spamming CE.

Ahh. I see. So my point still stands. No one is running hell with just minions doing 100% of the work while AFKing.

No, curses and CE add a lot. I don’t think it’s healthy for an ARPG to have you stand there and do nothing while minions hack away.

That’s what I’m getting at. At no point was there ever a necromancer that was “lazy” and just let minions do all the work. The player had to participate. The myth that if they make minions viable, that’s what will happen just needs to die already.

Oh I get you now!

There’s probably a good middle ground where a minionmancer is active but most damage comes from the minions…and they actually act as meat shields.
