More players on D3 than D4

D3 is 5 months into a season.

D4 is 5 days into a season.

Sheesh…

What can be done to salvage D4’s season?

I guess I’m having trouble seeing it. Would you kindly tell the numbers?

Out of 53/146 bnet friends online, there’s 7 playing D3, 3 playing D4, 1 playing WoW Classic.

Wow, what a worthless sample size.

So based only on your friends list?
Since it is a relevant source, on my friends list i haven’t seen a single person playing D3 since months. Around 4-5 ppl always online in D4
(I’m not hoarding people on my friends list so don’t expect hundreds of people on it. I have 42 friends in total on Battlenet)

Together, we have nearly 200 people in this “sample size”. That’s a pretty good indicator.

More importantly though, what can be done to salvage D4’s season? That’s not very promising when almost nobody is playing it already, lol.

Doesn’t matter, together we are still 2 people with a selective group of friends. Your friends usually strongly reflect also your taste or views in things. That’s how it simply psychologically works.

To get a clear picture we need the actual data. But since Blizz doesn’t share player counts on their games as you can see on steam for example, all these are just assumptions.

Yes that’s actually a way way more important question. How can a season be more interesting. Sadly D3 fell in that trap too that seasons were very boring and only new they brought for a long time was the +1extra legendary gem/season
Having seasonal mechanics is a good direction. But they need to keep those items and mechanics off season too as Inquisitor MArtyr is doing. Or else all the characters can simply be deleted because they become useless.
And the Battlepass needs a massive massive rehaul too.

Martyr did have some great seasons. D4 needs to take a page from their book.

200 people compared to the millions that have purchased this game is not a good sample size at all. And it’s rendered even less meaningful given the way that you’ve made those 200 friends and the medium you’re using to collate the information.

If I look at my Battlenet, most people are playing World of Warcraft because that’s where I met those people. It means absolutely nothing.

90% of my friends list is from Diablo games. There was a time when about 40/140 were playing D4 (at launch). Now I only see 8 at most during peak hours. The tides are flowing differently tonight though. More people are on D3, lol.

No, no it isn’t. You have sampling bias because the sourcing isn’t randomized. If, for instance, your friend group was picked up from “hardcore” D3 players it’ll over sample D3 just like if the other guy’s is just from people he met on D4 it’d oversample D4. Since the mthod to collect isn’t random (and demographic balanced, etc.) you’d need a much higher value.

Overall though, yes, from my experience everything seems like it has dropped fast in D4 in terms of player count. I’m not looking at my friends list really but just the general activity in PvP Zones, major cities, etc. all at night (9 - 11 or later MST) and… it feels like the population declined quickly or is slowly leveling in WT3.

Edit: Anecdotal evidence isn’t concrete at all either, but I’m also not trying to pass it off as fact just an observation.

Hah, same for me… if i look at my friend lists.
I see 4 people play d4, 6 wow, 0 d3, 0 FFXIV…

Clearly FFXIV and D3 is dead, cant really be argued against.

Interesting, based on my friendlist right now, out of 50/200, 10 play DI, 4 play D4, 1 plays WoW.

Even during the day most of my friends play DI, a few more play D4, and sometimes I see some play D2 also.

Very little amount of data to actually come to a conclusion but it’s still something I guess. In the beginning, at launch, a lot more friends were active in D4. Then step by step, little by little, almost everybody left for another game. They returned to DI, most of them anyways. It would be really interesting to see actual numbers, like, I know millions were having fun in the beginning playing like crazy, finishing the story, and now? how many have returned to previous games and how many continue in D4?

According to my personnal statistic 100% players are on D4 over D3. Based on a sample of population of one person … Me.

Who cares about Normal law and sampling, and margin of error blablabla nowadays ? Huh huh ?

It is pretty amazing that more people are choosing DI over D4 on your friends list. A lot of people like to rag on that game because of its P2W structure, but I have heard it is actually a decent game.

Cause they are playing at work on their smartphone, cause they have smartphone. But chch don’t say it too loud. Boss is near.

so how do you figure that because none of your friends are playing means noone is playing

I too like to make bold claims for an entire game based off my friends list…

Oh wait, no I don’t.

Because that’s stupid.

That means you are getting old and your “friends” (if you can call people friends who you only added through some gaming together once in a while) moved on to have families and such

I like the combat in Diablo 3, but loathed that everything was based on sets. Got boring just farming the set you need to be META.
