TLDR: D4 needs more end-game mechanics and bosses like PoE or Last Epoch and should have delivered this already since we are talking about a million-dollar company that has worked on this for years.
First of all, I love the game in its core mechanic and I’m still playing it for that. I like to find items by myself instead of having to buy them like in PoE, and I also like that I’m able to make my own builds. The dark atmosphere is great, and the graphics look beautiful.
But for the love of god, I can’t understand why a billion-dollar company like Blizzard cannot come up with any more interesting endgame mechanics than bounties and rifts. Because the three of whispers and the dungeons are nothing else than that!
The endgame feels boring and without any purpose, than to fight Lilith.
In PoE, you have so many cool endgame mechanics:
- An endless mine to delve where you have to keep away from the dark and find special loot and bosses
- A trial master where you can decide to get better rewards but have to fight more difficult waves with every further reward.
- An Archeological side where you blow up special rewards with dynamite and fight monsters
- You can create your own bosses and heck, there is even a tower defense mechanic in the game.
Also in Last Epoch and Wolcen, you have such more interesting endgame mechanics. I don’t want the game to become more complex, but It just is beyond me how they couldn’t come up with anything more interesting than rifts and bountys.
In addition to that, in PoE and Last Epoch, you farm endgame gear not just to finish your build. After you have finished your build, you can test it against multiple bosses like Elder, Shaper, or Maven or use it in more difficult content where you get cool rewards. In D4 you have one lousy boss which is the same end boss from the campaign.
Now, before the comments come (but it has more endgame than in D2 or D3, and the game just released etc…). As said above, we talk about a billion-dollar company that has worked on this game for years! It cannot be that they couldn’t come up with more interesting ideas than we have in such a long time. Also, d2 and d3 are very old games, we shouldn’t compare it with these.
In the end, I really enjoy the game in its base and I hope, we get more interesting mechanics and more cool bosses because I would like to switch between PoE and D4.
Now, sorry for the rant, and have a good day!
