Games used to be a thing you could enjoy casually. For us old timers going back to the days of Joust. I could sit down play video games for an hour and walk away when I was done. Everything is a grind now with 30 hours of play time to even get leveled up to the point where you can start enjoying it.
Now on top of that I have this server side BS from Diablo. I don’t read the news about games, I don’t come on here and talk about it. I just occasionally want to unwind and play a little bit. I can’t even turn off auto updates and play offline. I’m being forced to download a patch when they don’t even have the bandwidth to offer it. I’ve got a total of 3gigs worth of internet coming into the house. Granted I can only use 1 on a single task due to it’s 3 separate lines of service, and I am getting 16 Kbps download speeds on this silly patch. There goes gaming for my day. It’s not me. I work for the ISP and have already looked through my system including all the way back to the CMTS server and I have the bandwidth.
I only bought this garbage because they played off my nostalgia for a classic. Basically at this point it’s just another grind monster of a game that I won’t have time to finish and because of its nature I can’t even mod or cheat to experience the game with the time I have available.
I’m sorry, I know people are purists these days and defend anti cheat Bs but I bought the crap and I never play on line or PVP. Let me do with it what I want. Most of the time I don’t have 40 hours to devote to a game. I get 2-3 hours a week kid, job, hobby or chore free to play games. I wish developers would let me enjoy my 60$ the way I want but no, its all about trying to sell me additional crap on top of the purchase price.
I’m done. I was already getting tired of this BS game but this forced update, that killed my 2 hours of game time for the week was the cherry on top.

D2 is super grindy. I’m not grinding D4. D3 isn’t bad. Do you have it? It’s the least grind Diablo.
I don’t remember what the d4 patches are like now, but if its anything like WoW patches on the same launcher; the initializing and downloading manifest steps will be very slow but then when you hit the actual meat of the download it will speed up to normal speeds.
How do you figure? There are plenty of idle games for you to not have ti.e to play on mobile
Why have games where the grind is the focus at all? Additionally, it sounds like your simping for game devs who are just out for a cash grab on micro transactions. For the love of all, mobile games are the worst for grinding and micro transactions.
The evolution is sad. I’ll point out Fallout as an example. Fallout was great up to New Vegas and I’m talking all the way back to fallout 1, 2 and tactics. After that its just a never ending series of repetitive side quests and town building. I get plenty of busy work at actual work. I’d like to just play a game.
I’m sorry you’ve forgotten that gaming used to be great. The games looks amazing and have some true cinematics to them today. It’s just the actual game play that leaves a lot to be desired.
In fairness this game isn’t actually bad. It felt very true to Diablo I. Just a simple hack and slash. Just all the bs with adds, forced updates, server side play, your can’t even get the high level eq until you’ve finished at least one play through. it’s all just annoying when I just want to kick back for an hour.
Granted I’m hardly a gamer these days. As expressed above I don’t get to play much. So I’m far from the target audience. The rant just started because I was forced into an hour update just to launch the game. Even Cyberpunk let me turn off updates and that guy came out broke as a joke from day one. Same thing there though. Tons of features of the game that you couldn’t unlock until you spent ours grinding away to make money and exp. Difference was I could go offline and mod it. It’s not for everyone but don’t knock it just because you’re willing and able to devote 30-40 hours to get there.
This is actually a large part of the reason why I generally avoid online gaming now almost entirely. It’s gotten so bad that a game having the “multiplayer” tag is an instant turnoff.
Modern games suck for old (school) gamers
What games?
Oh, you mean these monetization vehicles, my bad.
I wonder how many casual gamers, that got d4 in the last couple of weeks due to word of mouth are going to have a seasonal character over level 80…
Couldn’t even be a sizeable percentage of the group. Maybe even less than 1%.
Everything blocked in the hardcore season character, I will not play as long as I have it like this, and if it does not solve it, I will sue,.,.,.
Lmao. No you won’t. All talk, nothing illegal to work with.
Isn’t buying a buggy, low-quality product for a high price illegal? I’ll find out soon, be sure of that.
It isn’t unless you can prove you were mislead (bait and switch).
You can argue something is worth what people are willing to pay for it.
That’s a pretty big wall of text for a casual.

And this I think its the crux of the issue, games used to be fun all the way thru, and keep you wanting to play, now they are either a grind to get thru, or you blast thru an unmemorable experience to get to the “end game” where the devs make the “Real Game”.
Unfortunately, even that is now an issue because the end game is becoming more of a grind due to the fact they want to keep you playing despite only catering to people that WANT to be playing a second job.
And its becoming prevalent over blizzards titles.
I already did it, can I do it again
Yep and if you can’t keep up with seasons, your chars will be nerfed as they add stupid mechanics and ‘balance’ by making the core game bad to play.
Unfortunately that’s how most online ganes are anymore. You either keep up or fall behind their really isn’t room in between to be casual. I’ll maybe make it to 80 this season but I’m not specifically playing d4 only. I can only play an hour at a time max if that.
Video games aren’t bad. The communities in video games are bad.
That’s what I think, anyway. For instance, World of Warcraft is a great game. The community, however, sucks.
So the OP decided that “Nostalgia” was enough of a driving factor to purchase the game and is now complaining that its an “Always Online” game … but hes complaining after the first patch ???
Does nobody actually look into what they are purchasing or google what “Live Service” means ???
The game hasn’t suddenly changed and made a full U turn and gone into reverse mode. The main issues in the game since the closed and open Beta’s have remained in the game.
You’re just mad that the patch stopped the yellow numbers flying across your screen !!!
HOW many streamers that went full outrage mode have now started to back peddle on their comments after playing the first season for a few hours ??? “I’ts not as bad as what I thought it would be, there are hidden mechanics and buffs in the game now”
