Playing minion build, lvl 70 right now
I know minion viability is a big debate, can not really give an insightful opinion as I only played that so I have no frame of reference
All I can say is that, so far, I’m having fun, and my minions don’t feel weak
I’m having only one problem, and it’s annoying me enough to come post here while I never post, the balancing issue on how problematic the “Fire Enchanted” elite affic is
As soon as I encounter an elite withe fire enchanted, all my minions are dead in a matter of seconds
They almost never die against anything else
I maxed the talent that prevent them to take more than a fix amount of % dmg in one hit
I have minion dmg reduction, they never die to poison, or goats, or arcane beam or such
but fire enchanted: instand death of my 12 minions
I have nothing against the affix itself, dodging the fireball is rewarding, having to be careful not to stand in the molten is easy
but please can we make it so the fire does not do 50 times more dmg to minions for some reason?
thanks

I can’t speak to that enchant with minions as my minion build is still in WT2 but honestly that is one of my most hated ones just in general.

It feels like a problem with Fire Enchanted as a whole. Just one of those little fire spurts completely erases my 3k barrier and takes off half of my 2500 health in a second.
The reason it might be erasing pets is because it’s most likely classified as a “DoT” since how quickly I die depends on if I’m moving or not when I get hit by the fire. Add on the AoE aura, and you have a hard counter for pets.

Running into an elite in a mid-20s nightmare dungeon with fire + vampiric (and had ridiculous movement speed, too) is what made me finally give up on a minion build for now. It deleted my horde in a blink then fully healed before turning me into toast. That affix is way overtuned.

They buffed pets tankiness vs. dots. They can stand in pools of acid now and not be bothered. I think it is just heavy burst damage. My issue is I can’t see it most of the time under the inky pools of CE. Once that is fixed things will be better.
Fire enchanted + supressor = Auto restart. Might as well just tell my character It can’t enter the dungeon and to reroll before I waste my time.
Also That shade that follows you feels like it was specifically made to ruin minion builds. You get hit with it, you walk out. Minions are stuck doing jack s&!t for 5 seconds however.

Main issue really is that the 30% max life per hit talent doesn’t do squat when they hang out around the guy constantly and suffer multiple such hits. It does get better with + minion life, the paragon nodes for reduced damage, debuffing them with reduced damage taken from shadow DoTs, and maybe stacking fire resists on armor when you have a free affix, but that talent really needs to add something like a 1 second immunity after each hit that would do more than 30% of their life; that or spamming the priest needs to stack the heal over time significantly to keep them up through it.

Yeah, I feel like minions can survive even world boss big attacks better. And for whatever reason after you kill the fire enchanted your minions think that standing in the AoE is the best idea. Weirdly I don’t feel like the affect is that bad while the enemy is alive. Its the post mortem affect that hits too hard. Even then it hitting hard once is not that big of a deal since even base level Death’s Defense prevents one shots, but since it pulses and sends extra projectiles out it nearly wipes all necro minions regardless. I am okay with it killing a few warrior minions, but killing basically all warriors and some of the mages with projectiles is a bit much.

nm 75+ they get decimated by everything not just elite packs
The fire enchant mechanic and the minion AI mechanic are at odds with each other because minion AI has no self preservation. They don’t “move inside” a suppressor shield, they don’t move away from the lightning pillar lines of death, and they stand in fire enchant pulses.
I have found fleeing right before the fire enchant mob dies and running as far away as I can saves some minions as they respawn close to me. But in big fights it’s a total crapshoot.
It’s a really frustrating mechanic, more and more the higher NM level I get, and I wish it would be addressed.
At the very least I’d think minions should have a much higher innate fire resist being that they are…bones. Getting 1-2 shotted by the pulses is very lame.

Extra fire resist on Necro minions is not a bad idea. Reviving or buffing occasionally is not bad, but fire echant novas have such a bad habit of wiping most if not all necro minions.
fire, lightning, suppressor, shade, exploding bomb all killed minions…
