This may be an obvious answer, but how is minion damage calculated? Do they do 30% of your weapon’s damage as a base damage? If I use a 2 handed weapon, slow but hits hard, they will naturally hit harder than if I were to wield a 1 handed weapon? Do they also swing slower if I use a 2 handed vs 1 handed? Attack speed wouldn’t make any sense, but the damage part kinda does =\
They hit based on your weapon damage stat and they don’t share the attack speed with you.
You can go dual hander until you find Mendeln, then you must use a wand (15% lucky hit chance) and the eye with 16.5% lucky hit chance.
To maximize damage pick an eye with up to 850 power, as it’s a super rare and it’s not limited to 820. Then roll it’s lucky hit effect for critical strike chance for the perfect Mendeln offhander.
You just use bone prison with the aspect that puts a pool inside it- 100% procs mendeln, for whatever reason (probably unintended). With decrep CDR, you can be bone prisoning very often. You tendril mobs together, bone prison, and your minion army blows up the whole pack rapidly. The cleave on your reapers is top damage for that situation.
If it’s 100% proc with 0% lucky hit chance stacked, then it’s a bug and will be nerfed/fixed at some point.
I use tendrils and plagued CE spam because I find the gameplay more fun, but you can use only tendrils.
Edit: Yes, I’ve just tried, removed all the lucky hit chance gear except the 7.2% I get from Mendeln, and bone prision with plunging aspect procs Mendeln 100% of the times, you just need to imprison one enemy.
It’s the only way you can really push dungeons with minions in their current state anyway.
400% minion hp
50% armor (warriors)
50% resists (mages
350% mage damage
350% warrior damage
100% minion damage
140% minion attack speed
etc, etc and none of that radically changes their survivability or damage.
Blizzard would be bigger jerks for fixing mendeln/bone prison, as it isn’t anywhere remotely close as overpowered as spear or bone spirit, before addressing the glaring issues with summon necromancers as a whole. The irony of the mendeln/prison bug is that the class STILL performs weaker than average while using it.
They get 30% with no skills, mastery increases them to 52.5%. the only realistic way to make summons viable is a harlequin crest. Plus 4 to golem, skeleton, and mage mastery, would make their damage scaling high enough for use. Unfortunately finding one is equivalent to winning the power ball so we will continue to kick rocks.
I don’t think Shako works on passive skills, so it won’t give any bonus to skel/mages/golem.
You can have Hellbent Commander up to level 6 with an amulet though.

It’s for awesome satisfying Necro experience. Also we have an advantage on Multiplayer when most high end players there are Glass Cannons who dies in one shot as we are very tanky. You know you have Zero DPS if you are dead.
Viable yes, but I would recommend against getting in a habit of relying on it. It will almost definitely get fixed eventually, and the people who leaned into it will be left with a dead build. You’re better off just using Corpse Tendrils and high lucky hit as a crutch.
So you conclude that Bone Prison is bug’d as it proc’s Mendeln 100%.
There are many times when I put Bone Prison didnt proc Mendeln and it proc’d only after I followed up with Tendril.
And there are few occasions where after putting Bone Prison and Tendrils, the ring didnt proc but proc’d after I did Corpse Explosions and Raise Skelly Buffs.
I dont see where the bug is. Bone Spear has high lucky hits chance. I think Bone Prison and Tendril has the same high lucky hits chance. It’s just I abuse the mechanics of doing both Bone Prison and Tendril. And it really doesnt matter if the ring procs, mobs would die eventually Blights, frenzied-like skellys and Corpse Explosions… It would just die slower.
Watch this sample video and tell me if Bone Prison proc’d right away. BTW, I have 40% Lucky hits stats on gear on that video.
Note that bone prison has no listed lucky hit chance whatsoever. That’s why we think it’s bugged. If it isn’t, then Blizzard just botched the tooltip. It would be great if it were the latter, but I’d be a wee bit surprised by that.
To get it to proc 100% of the time, use aspect of plunging darkness and aspect of the void and aspect of bursting bones combined with abhorent decrep, with those 3 it literally just chains medeln effects and refreshes prison almost immediately
Honestly, I am happy with my current proc rate. I would just get more cooldown reduction from gear.
I already have the Aspect of Plunging Darkness. I want to keep the faster CD Tendrils as I have like +5 on it from gear. I prefer to have it over Aspect of the Void. And I have Tendril Aspect to increase crit chance and crit damage. I dont think I would need Aspect of bursting bones. I would just spam Abhorrent Decrep, Miasma Corpse Explosions and Raise Skellies to bring Skelly’s to frenzy-like… to take care of the rest of the remaining mobs.
