Hello. I’d like to clarify that English is not my mother language so please try to ignore if I write something funny or strange.
I’ve been playing Diablo IV for 400 hours and 100% necromancer. I tried my best to make a good viable Minion build and still failed, so the next option was go to streamers’ and site builds.
After copying and pasting the builds, farming the unique ring and maxing out paragon glyphs, it occurred to me that the damage was still pathetic and the struggle to clear high end NM dungeons was not worth it. Uber Lilith just wrecked me and my damage probably made her laugh.
Season 1 came and I tried again until level 75. I farmed everything and my character was still a piece of garbage. Switched to the now nerfed Bone Spear build and wrecked everything. (Slower than eternal but still worked very nice.)
I played D2R and Diablo 3. Minions were not godlike but they were useful. They were something the devs fear and hate the most… They were FUN TO PLAY.
Why can’t the minions auto spawn just like the Golem? Why do we have to lose a skill button just to ress them and give a ridiculous heal/buff?
Well, now to the most importante part… We have no voice. No matter how many topics we create here, I feel like they won’t do anything until some streamer from maxroll/icyveins starts complaining. And that’s what’s really killing me inside, you know? It doesn’t matter if the players are not having fun, devs won’t budge an inch until someone with visibility starts showing where they are screwing up.
I have no words to express the amount of rage and disgust that hit me after reading the patch notes for 1.1.1. Yes, sorc and barbarian were bad, but were they the only ones?
Why didn’t they test other classes and builds?
I’d really love, I’d PAY to watch a dev play end game content with a summoner build and beat Uber Lilith with it. I’d PAY to watch it and see if they can have FUN with something like that.
So, my friends. This is the end for me. I waited enough and tried enough to have fun, but I gave up and uninstalled. Still I want to know: What can we do to be heard? What can we do to have FUN playing with SUMMONS on a SUMMONER’S class?
I have no hope left.
Edit: this is the lead class designer dev stating his “fantasies” about necromancer. Minions are not on his main list. Maybe we should try to reply to this tweet and make ourselves heard.

Like seriously most of us play necro for a summoner build. It’s taking them way too long to do anything about the issue to the point where it’s better to play a different game because I don’t want to play any other class, I WANT TO PLAY A SUMMONER THAT IS VIABLE WITHOUT THE BONE PRISON/MENDELN BUG.

Tbh, I don’t know if you guys watched the campfire chat or not, the devs did mention something about the fantasy of building summon necro/summon druid. It totally boils down to making the minions strong enough yet not too OP to be game breaking I guess… It’s not gonna be an overnight change tho, I suggest yall to wait for like 2 seasons before they even will look into this probably. If you have never played a sorcerer, you will also never understand their pain. There are more important changes to implement now.
They also did mention about how druid’s summon should not be as strong as necro since necro should essentially be like a summoner/raise dead class.
The only thing that I can add on is to just wait patiently and really, if you are looking to decimate high tier NMs or uber lilith, the best bet is still to follow meta builds found on the internet and from there, your experience would be more fulfilling.

I think this is very viable
At the moment minions deals almost zero damage without Mendeln, which is not a minion damage thing.
This is the main problem of the necromancer class and it’s a HUGE problem. It’s unclear why devs have decided to postpone the solution of this problem, i really hope that a fix will come soon (before season 2). There a countless of posts on the forum signaling this, let’s hope for the best

I don’t see how it’s okay for minions to be underpowered since release with their 30% scaling BS that makes them hit for 10k dmg at level 100 while being fully invested in paragon & gear. You have OP classes every patch since launch and it seems to be okay because they are not a summoner? I understand they want to balance everything but the least they can do right now is be fair and give minions a huge scaling buff (75-100%) while they figure it out just as a compensation for giving us a weak @ss spec for the past 2 months.

I play a necro/ocultist in GrimDawn pure minion. It is lightyears ahead of Diablo’s minion builds, I can even control them directly with a keybind to focus something or move them out of my way or put them in front of a boss. They do loads of damage and don’t get melted in a second by celestials (uber bosses in GD).

Yep, I’ve played PoE, Grim Dawn, and Last Epoch as a pure summoner and they are smooth af. It is just unbelievable how they released minions in their current state and I do have a lot of hope for D4’s summoner, but it’s just taking wayyyy too long.

I think Blizz devs suffer from hubris and/or arrogance and will not take good ideas and designs that have worked for years from other games because “they know better”. They don’t even acknowledge POE as competition which is wild since D4 only accomplishment was to shed even more light on POE with its disastrous first season, broken mechanics and exploits.

tbh if you like minion builds POE has best version around (and can actually control them somewhat)
ppl/devs hate em becasue its seen as “ez” if they are too good.

This is so true, PoE And other games are far ahead of this company in terms of understanding what players enjoy.
The craziest thing, is that they had a pretty good innovation with the necromancer fantasy in D2.
I don’t know why they moved away from it.
AFAIK summoner was never most popular built in any Diablo (except may be D1). D2 - most fun was Poison Nova, D3 offered you way to many options with different sets, D4 also offering several playstyles - although you are down to mandatory use either BP or CT as a CC and mist
That is exactly what I am playing. I farm NM 60s, can probably deep dive to 80s . Dry Bear proved you can do pre nerf 80s content (which is well above NM100 today) with a pure summoning build and no uniques at all.
The issue is speed, you can’t play a non mendelns summoning build with friends because it kills so damn slow.
The issue is resources, there is 0 point in investing in minion damage because minions do no damage no matter how much you buff them. Putting resources into anything but minion survivability is a waste.
The issue is inconveniences like lousy AI, and an idiotic summoning mechanic that screws you if you reincarnate with your resummoning ultimate on cool down.
