Minion and enemy AI

I love this season of Diablo 4, it’s finally turning into a more enjoyable experience to play the game all the way from 1 to 100 and even beyond that, just farming materials and items.

Even though we got more power, in the form of the item rework and the addition of tempering and masterworking, and the minions have been greatly buffed, which was much needed, it’s still painfully obvious that both the minion and enemy AI is trash tier.

Now you won’t notice this in the overworld, even during helltide, because you melt the enemies in mere instants, which is very satisfying, a reward for investing into your characters skills, paragon boards and gear choices/upgrades.

But once you start doing high level nightmare dungeons and pits, where monsters usually stay alive for more than 2 seconds, you’ll start noticing how bad the AI still is.

The minions behave almost erraticaly, they are a wildcard, either refusing to enter a room with enemies unless I dive in, other times they will completely all decide to jump on an enemy somewhere you can’t see, leaving you defenseless.

And just like in the past, most enemies will completely ignore your minions and just beeline you to one shot you.

Sure, I get it that you need to buff up your defenses and health a bit more, but I shouldn’t have to be as tanky as a barbarian or druid on my summoner necromancer.

While it feels a ton better to play a summoner necromancer this season, you should be in control of your minions, at the very least to have a dedicated keybind to have all minions move to a spot or attack the highlighted enemy.

Enemy aggro should definitely be looked into, it’s all over the place.

The state the game currently is in right now has partly restored my goodwill towards the development team, they are responding to player feedback, but there are many more issues they need to address in the game to make it a great game.

I truly hope we’ll see some changes on the minion/enemy AI aspect till the end of this season.

This pertains to the Necro, so it’s only fitting to necro a post relevant to the subject.

I still notice this on mobs like the Butcher. Who’ll completely ignore the minions, and if I am not tanking him personally, he’ll disappear. It seems the AI for the Construct we had, was much better designed. Sadly, they carried none of that over to the Necro’s Minions. I hope that one day, a Dev plays this game and realizes the issues we still face and corrects them.
