Midwinter Blight and Slay Ride To Hell: Why These Should’ve Been One Unified Event

I was playing through the events the past couple weeks and I kept coming back to these strings of thoughts regarding both. I figured I would at least post them to try and generate any discussion on potential improvements.

Thematic Redundancy

  • Both Midwinter Blight and Slay Ride To Hell are heavily winter-themed, yet splitting them into two separate events feels redundant. Combining them into a unified, cohesive seasonal event could have created a richer and more immersive experience for players.

Sustained Engagement

  • A single, well-designed event would have generated more excitement and maintained player engagement over a longer period, instead of diluting interest across two smaller, disconnected activities.

Lack of Depth Hurts the Game

  • The current pacing and design of seasonal events often feel shallow and rushed. Players crave richly themed, meaningful content—not half-baked activities designed to push microtransactions or expansion hype. A deeper, more rewarding event would resonate better with the community and improve overall game perception.

Better Progression, Better Rewards

  • A unified event could have featured a more rewarding progression system, with milestones unlocking unique and desirable rewards. Players generally don’t dislike Battle Passes—what they dislike is when rewards fail to feel substantial or worth the effort.

Missed Opportunities in Quality Features

  • The removal of old features continues to hurt the game’s perception of quality. For example, the lack of vendors and dedicated public events in Helltides, such as a Red Cloaked Horror-style event with blood-maiden-level loot explosions, feels like a massive missed opportunity. Bringing back such features could significantly improve player satisfaction and engagement.

I’m not a fan of “Unified Events”. That’s just stupid. You relying on everyone contributing and as we all know, half will not contribute if any, a quarter will contribute very little and a quarter will contribute the most, but we all get to share the rewards? I don’t get it. It should have been a solo challenge with an in-game counter.

I have no evidence at all, but I thought the first holiday event this year was so awful and half-baked that they turned the goblins back to try to cover and say oh no, this is the REAL holiday event. I agree with a lot of your points. They have 25 plus years of online games they could copy events from. It’s not like this is a new concept. If they can’t think of anything original, at least copy something successful/memorable from another game and put a D4 spin on it.

I think the bigger issue is the amount of time given to both. We had the Midwinter event that lasted all of a week. Which technically isn’t even in winter. Winter officially starts on Dec 21. Yes I nitpick. Regardless not a lot of time to have fun with the event, especially for those who may have been traveling for the holidays.

Now we have this new goblin event that’ll last just over 2 weeks. What they should’ve done is started both events on Dec 3rd, and just let them run through until the end of the season, so roughly Jan 24 I believe. In all honesty what harm would it do? Season is basically dead by this point, give those who want to play an extra bonus for a longer period of time.

Well a popular and even likely conspiracy theory is there is no counter because they will just announce “yay! all awards unlocked” even if the goals are missed. To do otherwise would look bad from a marketing standpoint.

it would indicate a fairly dire situation for the game if a company this large stooped to tactics that low, but I am struggling to understand a logical reason for not having a kill count on a kill count event.

That said… i still get “helltide will end in 5 min” banners, when helltide just ended, at 15 min bofore it ends, 5 min after it starts, but rarely ever 5 min before it ends so …

At least the blog post about the event is no longer returning a 500 “internal server error”

Or at least it works sometimes… just refreshed and got 500 again…

They may not have even started that way, but I’m guessing someone in marketing pointed it out.

I mean in he who shall not be named they advertised you could use all your cosmetics from 1 in 2, but almost none have been ported yet. They are dragging their feet on it…bit you can buy new cosmetics that work. And absolutely think that is intentional. Studios are not your friends, even the ones pretending to still be indie even when they aren’t.

Our only friend is Swen.

Speaking of marketing … this title is fantastic: “Crush Goblins, Hoard Rewards”

It clearly does not say “Goblin Hordes” but it clearly created the impression for many posting here that there would be Hordes of goblins.

Fully deniable bait and switch lol - This is “evil” marketing genius at it’s finest

FOR THE HORDE!!!

Oops wrong game.
