Meshif (from D2) shouldn't be in D4

He would be WAY WAY WAY too old. His mindless inclusion sort of breaks the timeline. If he was 30 in D2, then he’s around 100 now; how the heck can he be a desert guide?

He should also be much much older than Lorax.

If anything, Meshif could be sitting in a place somewhere for a few honorary lines or even some quests… not crossing a dessert.

This is a tiny detail, but there are so many lore breaks and retcons in D4 that they sort of pile up.

EDIT:

For those confused on the timeline:

And for those claiming it’s possible to cross deserts at 100 IRL:
The Tuaregs live in the Sahara and have a life expectancy of 44.

It’s a common name. It’s not the same Meshif from D2.

He keeps calling Lorath Deckard, it’s the same Meshif.

I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be some nostalgic trip. He’s also wearing the same clothing and looks like a 60-year-old version of the D2 Meshif.

Do we actually know how long people live in Sanctuary?
Magic? Nephalem influence, etc?

I would assume it goes by similar life spans as IRL. In fantasy, you generally assume things work like IRL unless otherwise specified.

That’s why it seems odd that a 90-100-something man behaves like a 70-year-old man, and has the physical health of a 50-year-old man. Heck, it’s odd that a 90-something person is freaking alive, most humans don’t live that long with modern medicine; I’d imagine the life expectancy in Sanctuary would be even lower.

I’m not saying remove him… I’m just saying it makes no sense he has the health to cross a desert.

IMO, it seems like unnecessary nostalgia. Like when Fantastic Beasts had professor McGonagall and it made no sense.

In a world with demons, angels, and magic its this NPCs appearance that surprises you the most?

well 3 is 20 after 2, and 4 is 50 after 3, so if he was 18-25 in 2, hed be 90-100(ish) in 4, and also, maybe a nephalim, so who knows how long he could live.

Buddy have you even met meshif in d4 lol

It’s a timeline inconsistency, out of many. They pile up and degrade the story. One tiny thing doesn’t ruin the story by any means, but many tiny things do.

But, back to you, why accept a careless and avoidable lore mistake?

Meshif would be no more than 100 years old in d4, and in the diablo universe, all humans are nephalim.

I mean Cain lived to be like 150, and he was killed by demons, Meshif spent his life on the sea, working on boats. Fit as can be.

No, Deckard was about 80 as per the book of Cain; which I own.

Unless you have another source.

You are right, kind of, the book of cain doesnt fit the games timeline, since he could not have been 85, even though he looked and sounded like he was 100 yo.

I had to double check cuz i was curious;

He was ‘35’ in diablo 1, and d2 takes place a few months after its conclusion, d3 takes place 20 years after the conclusion of d1. So cain was 55 when he died in d3.

(which imo is ridiculous, but hey, we cant argue with the lore masters)

He was already an old man in D1, though

It’s not my fault the lore masters screwed up his age and Benjamen Buttoned him.

The retcon’ing is what broke the lore imo.

He also didn’t have an accent in D2, and now he has a very heavy one. That bothered me a lot.

“member berries” are a cheap tactic to get fans through nostalgia…and D4 has lots of them.

what you dont like the Icelandirisheuronordirussiasian accent?

some sound engineer was like, “what accents should we use?” to his superior, and he was like, “YES!”.

Also, Blizzard is kinda famous for it’s lore and timelines being a rolling dumpster fire of inconsistences and retcons. Play something Like FFXIV or The Witcher for a more coherent lore.
