Memory Lane and what should have been

Note to Blizzard:

I’m old enough to remember when Diablo 1 first came out. I didn’t even get to play it but could only watch my friend as my computer wasn’t strong enough. Yet, every day I would run to his house just to see what new items he found. It felt like such a huge accomplishment when he was high enough level to put on some new armor that gave him a new look. I didn’t even do anything but felt like I was part of it just because I witnessed it.

When Diablo 2 came out I begged my boss at my part-time job to go home early just so I could play it for an additional hour. It seemed almost revolutionary as it was not purely dungeons like the first game but added an open world. Mixing and matching equipment just so that you could equip something else because it gave you 5 more strength was frustrating and yet satisfying. Dungeons still remained at the heart of the game and provided so much gratification when you made it through.

Diablo 3 went through many iterations and I admit when I first played it, it felt a little lacking. The same basic gameplay of D2 but it just felt different. I still enjoyed it though as there were many more new concepts to figure out. It has had a long life overall too as they made the end-game really shine as you were always trying to mix/max your equipment. In the latter days, it was all about pushing yourself to see how high you could go in different torments. Higher you went the more mob density, rewards, and experience.

When Diablo 4 was announced I impatiently waited. Even talked my daughter into buying it for me for my birthday which gave me beta access. Now that the game has been out I’m still waiting for that feeling of “this is so cool”. Maybe it’s just that I’m older now but the game doesn’t feel the same. It doesn’t feel like Diablo. Dungeons are lackluster and mostly pointless. Leveling after 50 starts to feel like another household chore. Sidequests may as well not exist and end-game activities quickly become repetitive.

When I think of Diablo I think of epic dungeons with gold and loot explosions after killing a boss. The search for that perfect piece of equipment that will complete my build and wonder if there is anything else out that I just haven’t seen yet. Tinkering with different builds and concepts just to see if it works or not.

Sorry for the long read but Blizzard, what happened? Have you not played any of the previous games? Have you not thoroughly tested this game? Please get back into what makes Diablo, Diablo. I know you can do it with some adjustments. Just listen to your community and make calculated decisions, not knee-jerk reactions.

Thank you

diablo 4 is the best diablo so far, with great subtlety in design and great respect paid to each of its predecessors. if you dont see it, please look closer.

Just because you white knights don’t care, doesn’t mean the other 90% of us don’t. The guy is very right about his sentiment, I feel the same way, although I had a computer that could push D1.

Lol, impossible to be triggered because theres no way Imma read your 10 paragraph diablo autobiography there rofl…

If you have constructive ideas for improvement post those. No one wants to read 10 paragraphs about how Diablo made you the man you are today and the current game is “making a mockery of those memories” or whatever histrionic nonsense youre on about lol.

I actually do, that was a good post.

Sure lol. If I made a post on the forums that no one likes eating :poop:, 10 of you would respond with a reply about how much you do in fact enjoy the taste and always have, just to be contrarian.

Really great post OP!

Funny, because given the context defending D4 is analogue to defending the consumption of poop.

i remember picking it off the shelf at the same time as Crusader: no Regret.
at this point from the box alone, i thought Crusader looked cooler ngl. boy was i wrong.

yes i fell on the diablo IP by pure luck from seeing the cover on the shelf. times changed lol

huh. no just no. Not true

Lucasa-1187, you should get a vacation from the forums for harassing people giving legitimate and respectful feedback about the game. Why do you feel so threatened?

Dear Diary,

Today on the forums I met a user by the name of Lucasa, and they seemed terribly unpleasant. Their comments were filled with negativity and disdain, as if they were determined to spread their gloom to others. It saddened me to witness such bitterness, and I couldn’t help but wonder what could have led them down this path. Perhaps they have faced hardships or disappointments that have tainted their perspective.

I hope that in time, Lucasa finds a sense of joy and contentment in their life. It is my wish that they discover the beauty in the world and the warmth of human connection, allowing their heart to be touched by moments of happiness. Everyone deserves a chance to find peace and embrace the positivity that exists within and around them.

May Lucasa’s journey lead them to a place of genuine happiness, transforming their unpleasantness into kindness and compassion.

Oh yeah I remember Crusader! Those were the days you would buy the PC game and then all of your friends would borrow and install it too.

Mine is better.

Once upon a time in the vast virtual realm of the Diablo, there was a player named Infandus. He had journeyed through Sanctuary with unwavering determination, battling fearsome foes and forging alliances with kindred spirits. But beyond the grand adventures and epic quests, there lurked a malevolent force that threatened to shatter his spirit—Lucasa, the embodiment of malice and cruelty.

Lucasa, a name whispered with fear and disdain across the forums, took pleasure in tormenting others. With his venomous words and ruthless actions, he reveled in sowing discord and inflicting emotional wounds. Infandus, a passionate and enthusiastic player, became the primary target of Lucasa’s wrath.

Day after day, Lucasa unleashed a barrage of insults and derogatory remarks upon Infandus, tarnishing his reputation and poisoning the online community with his venom. Infandus, his spirit battered and his enthusiasm waning, faced the relentless onslaught with courage, refusing to be silenced.

The world of World of Diablo, a realm of fantasy and camaraderie, seemed tainted by Lucasa’s presence. Other players, though sympathetic to Infandus’ plight, hesitated to intervene, fearing they too would fall victim to Lucasa’s vindictiveness.

But amidst the darkness, a glimmer of hope emerged. A group of fellow players, who had witnessed the extent of Lucasa’s cruelty, rallied around Infandus. They formed a shield of support, countering each hurtful comment with words of encouragement and admiration.

Infandus found solace in their friendship, the warmth of their virtual embrace fueling his determination to rise above the torment. Together, they crafted a manifesto of positivity, spreading kindness throughout the online community like a soothing balm for wounded souls.

The tides began to turn, as Infandus’ allies stood tall against Lucasa’s onslaught. Their words and actions became a testament to the power of unity and resilience. The once-mighty bully found his power diminishing, his influence waning as the community united against his toxic behavior.

As the battles raged on the forums, the moderators of the Diablo community took notice. They implemented stricter policies against harassment and bullying, determined to protect the sanctity of their virtual realm. Lucasa, faced with the consequences of his actions, retreated into the shadows, his voice reduced to a mere whisper.

Infandus, now a symbol of strength and triumph, continued his adventures in Sanctuary. The scars of his battles with Lucasa served as a reminder of his resilience and the unwavering support of his friends. With newfound determination, he ventured forth, spreading positivity and camaraderie wherever he went, ensuring that the light of compassion would never dim.

And so, the tale of Infandus, the warrior who faced the malevolence of Lucasa on the Diablo forums, reminds us of the power of friendship and unity. It teaches us that even in the face of darkness, we can rise above and triumph over cruelty. Together, we can create a virtual realm where kindness and empathy flourish, forging a path towards a brighter and more inclusive gaming community.

Oh what an age we live in where we have chatgpt battles, lmao.
