Melee Sorc, and only melee sorc

I only played sorc on D3 and now in D4 I’m still playing only this class. I’m level 83 now and here are my thoughts on this class, mainly in endgame.

I always had the idea that sorcs deal lots of damage but in return they were fragile and had to keep distance from enemies. It is good to see good melee sorc builds, but the problem is that melee is the only viable option for endgame.

Following the moto “play your way”, I wasted lots of hours in early game trying a pure lightning build for my sorc, but as I was getting closer to endgame, I found it really hard to advance. I realised that Vulnerable is a must when you get to the endgame. Stun can’t compete with vulnerability. You need to proc Vulnerable in order to advance in the game.

That makes Frost Nova a must, because although some aspects and glyphs procs vulnerability, they are not enough due to the cooldowns, you need Frost Nova, so my pure lightning build was not that pure anymore. Besides, you need to get close to the enemies in order to apply Frost Nova, so my not-melee sorc had to be melee. Of course you can teleport far and cast spells from the distance, but Teleport has cooldowns and some times you can’t do that. If you walk away, when you get enough distance Frost Nova has end and you have to get closer to the enemy again in order to freeze them.

So, as you get close to the endgame you realise that build variety narrows to only 2 or 3, and all of then are melee.

This leads to the poor build variety for sorc (don’t know for other classes because I only play sorc), but that is another topic.

What do you think about this?

I think that you have must miss something and exploit and sorc actually do not procs vulnerability but gives you damage up to 10% when hitting vulnarable enemies. But pretty much yes there’s have been a lot of " complains " around frost nova and that skill being the only option to put vulnerability in any kind of sorc build hopefully they Will do something about it…or i can totally see in the near future sorc being from the top played class to the least played class starting with s1

ppl kind of got the wrong idea about the sorc class including myself. I believe majority of the players whom have not played the beta test would assume sorc is like an AoE/single target dps glass cannon class. Somehow, in D4, that is not the case and instead, they gave Druid the AoE.
