As the original poster of this idea points out… If I have the gold and the materials needed to get the result I want from master working, why make me spend 30-60 minutes playing slots to get it? Why not give an option to pay a stupid high cost in gold and materials to let players choose the MW rolls they want? The mats and gold still get consumed, and I don’t have to waste time in a Vegas mini-game that could be spent engaging with actual content.
IF there absolutely MUST be an RNG element then make it on the cost to choose 3 rolls. For those who don’t want to or can’t spend the stupid high cost to do this, well you can still play the slots just like now.
Ok rip this idea to shreds now please. idc it’s not my idea, but after wasting 2-3 hours at the blacksmith in the last few days to get perfect MW on several items, I kept thinking about this and thought it interesting and worthy of discussion.
Edit also maybe call THIS option Master Work and the other one Apprentice Work (Random Enhancements)
this game logic is subzero if crafter can improve item why cant he craft it by him self the way you want it with all afixes u need or give us option to craft us wht we want or remove crafting at all feels like crafter is casino machine tryn to sux out of you last coin mabe sacrifice or merge items to improve other item sounds way better with % to fail bigger upgrade harder to improve so u always gona hunt for items to merge or sacrifice to get 100% like glyps or give items lvls as soon item lvl up u chose skill ability for it wht ever u need
This would be even better for people trying to get specific MW but may remove some of the gold sink effect, although TBH why bother with gold sinks if duping and RMT gold is a thing.
Yeah, gold sinks are ridiculous when they’re tied to trading. In seasons 4 and 5, I was pretty much forced to trade because there was no way I could earn enough gold in-game to masterwork the way I wanted or reroll my amulet without trading.
I don’t really trade in D4 (was nice in D2R, got bers & jahs that way from selling GG base items early in seasons), so I wind up w/ less than ideal MW rolls on most of my gear. Tried grinding gold/mats, but hordes gets tedious as hell. Gets so boring and tedious, I have to log off and take a break.
And just read a bunch of “oh, I never have those problems” and “everything’s great for me” posts. Well, that’s nice, the fact those people dwell in these forums seems to contradict those sentiments, as if that were true, more time would be spent in their utopia vs this forum.
I fully get the sentiment of this and while I wouldn’t say everything is perfect, i’ve played much much worse lol.
I’m largely playing forum more than game right now because short of 3/4 GA unique or uber drops, or actually getting perfect tempering (yeah right), there isn’t too much I can do to improve any of my chars. and killing the same bosses over and over and over is getting really old lol, especially after playing PTR
Gold should never be the solution for doing anything in a diablo game since traders are seeling items for 10b - this is an amount non-traders / ssf-players will never ever have.
I think about that every time I do bosses with people that leave hundreds of Leg items sitting on the ground and don’t salvage or vendor them… Like do you not care about perfect MW or what lol
I think you may have misunderstood the point of my post.
I’m not suggesting they add a gold price as a way to get around RNG. or that they alter the base MW function. There is already gold cost along with material cost for master working and resetting MW. I am only suggesting that many players like myself have all of the gold and mats needed to sit there endlessly spamming the mw/reset buttons till we get the result we want, so why not give us a QOL option to just pay the mats/gold up front and get the stats we want. I mean there is a statistical mean cost already so why not give us direct access to do it without wasting so much time that could be spent doing actual content.
Again bro…please listen:
Blizzard does everything to keep people playing game! it is commercial thing…
Many parts of the game is directed to addiction psychology thing, especially in young people.
And how does it hurt them if I spend that time farming mats or bosses or horde or pushing pit vs mindlessly pressing the craft/reset buttons. it’s not like I’m going to reduce my play time because I can suddenly do things with my time that are more fun than Master Slots… If anything, it is the opposite, the more boring repetitive unfun things eat my time in game and prevent me from spending time doing relatively more enjoyable things, the more likely I become to move on to a different game and have 0 playtime
Every system combined contributes to playtime and when playtime crosses the threshold for individuals between fun / work / risk vs. reward then people shelve the game forever or until the financial impact forces blizzard to change.
While tempering / master working provides another avenue of play its implementation isn’t stellar in my opinion. I too want an option to just pay and get a specific result with a random range on it. That makes more sense to me.
If the argument is rng has to be that component in the game then I’d argue the new co-op change says it doesn’t have to be that way either.
So true, when you take away the rewards, players eventually realize they’re just hamsters spinning the wheel (like those you can use to get more cinders when you’re short).
The excitement earlier this season was because people were getting lots of mats and able to get their MW to orange on every item. Now you’ll be lucky to get that on 1 (be it a desired one or not). Grinding out 11 waves (incl council) for 300 aethers is not fun. It’s when you get 800+ that players get a rush - absent that, you get that empty feeling, which is the typical post-nerf experience.
It just occurred to me that in order to change it the least, and still give us our time, they could just set an option to set the results you want and have it auto roll/reset behind the scenes till it hits the combo you asked for or until you run out of one of the needed items. this way it literally only changes the need to keep pressing the same buttons over and over and the end cost is the same it would have been via RNG.
