Masterworking is without a question the most obnoxious design I came across in any game. I understand it is end game feature and you should not be able to get perfect masterwork on all of your gear in couple of hours but currently it just doesn’t feel right.
I don’t mind killing hundreds of bosses and not getting items I’m looking for. At least I’m killing stuff- that’s what is this game about . With MW you sit in town in a little menu praying for 1/64 chance going your way. And there is nothing more annoying than watching failing, failing and failing again. Especially when we need to spend alot of time farming these materials with next to 0 change it will workout next time.
RNG will always be big factor in these sort of game but D4 takes it to the next level. 100% luck, 0% skills - there is literally not a single in-game feature which benefits players for theirs knowledge. Everything is completely luck based.
I hope that in a future this system will get complete rework. Or atleast if we are forced to sit in a menu we will have a chance to improve our odds of getting what we want.
Itemization needs a complete rework. The current system completely discourages upgrading due it’s find and grind nature. Find an item, temper, reroll, masterwork, apply aspect, etc. Find a better item, start the grind all over again.
This result in not wanting to do the grind part when you are going to just replace it. I pretty much skip all the grind part 1 to 60. Then you don’t want to replace something you already did the grind on. Do you really want to masterwork that slightly better item when you already got good rolls on your current item.
A system where you didn’t have to start over again would be much better. Some sort of system where you continuously progress your item. Preferably by finding stuff, not rerolling endlessly at a vendor.
One of the few things I liked about Lost Ark’s raiding was that when you got a new tier of gear you could feed it the old one to jump-start its progression - and since the last few levels of a tier’s progression are optional, you got to carry forwards the benenfit of putting in that extra work.
Here, like you said - for instance if i get a high roll on +golem damage and double crit it, why would I ever want to replace that piece just because the next one has more GA? Those rolls aren’t going to happen again.
