When using the Masterworking mechanic, I increased a ring and the tooltip said that all affix values would increase by 5%. The ring in question had 60% poison resist, after the upgrade it was at 62%. This is just one example of the stats on the ring, all of them were shorted like this though. 5% of 60 would be an increase of 3, so the value should have been 63% at the minimum. Unless it was meant to be a flat increase from 60% to 65%. I am assuming it is meant to be done the 1st way. Regardless, the value increase was not up to par.
No it is not at all it increases it by 4 percent lol. I got a great pair of pants went to increase it and I saw at the the point my armor was at 2210 and then increased to 2290. They better fix this and I better not have to re masterwork this crap again cause I like my rolls. Blizzard can’t even do simple math 2210 times five hmm 110 approximately when in the hell do you get 80 from it that is less then 4%. Fix it and fix my stats so I don’t have to rework it again period.
Also I am on PS5 lol so it is across multiple platforms. Oh did I mention sorcs can’t do hardly any vulnerable dmg as in frigid fate, icefall legendary nodes, barrier that increases vulnerable. Blizzard you guys are unbelieveable you need to have multiple ptr’s every season cause you still can’t get anything right ever the first time.
I can confirm this is the case. I had a ring with no masterworking, it had 9% attack speed and a greater affix lucky hit which was also 9%. I levelled it to 4 and neither of those stats got the 25% increase so I expected them to increase by 15%.
Attack speed rose to 10.4% but lucky hit only increase to 9.9% !!!
There is definitely a bug here
I’ve now checked a greater affix Max Life item, upgrade 4 times (no 25% increase) and it only increased by 10% instead of 15%.
1310 → 1441
Another…
Greater affix Max Life starts at 1310. Upgraded to MW4 and received the 25% bonus
I’d expect 5 + 5 + 25 = 35% greater max life which would be 1768
The item only has 1659 which is around a 26% increase
Told ya blizzard employee’s are idiots and can’t do simple math and bet they don’t test the game at all every before a patch of whatever else. Hotfix vulnerable fixed my you know what.
Not a bug, just the way reductions are calculated. It is indeed a 5% improvement.
No its not lol then people don’t know how to do math lol. It should be 63% period not 62 sorry then Blizzard needs to advertise the right percentage period instead of false advertising 5% increase
No, the math in this case is correct, if you understand how reductions work.
then show me the math is it 5% of base value cause 5% of 60 is 63 I am a major in finance so please break it down for me. Would love to understand
60% poison resistance means you take 40% (0.40) of the original poison damage. Take another 5% off that means you take 0.95 of the 0.40 poison damage.
0.40*0.95=0.38, or 38% of the original poison damage, which means 62% poison resistance, which is exactly what the game shows.
Ok got it. At least for resistance’s I would have to look up the rest of the way to calculate lol like armor that went up from 2210 to 2290 im assuming then it is correct even though it looks like 3.8 percent.
That’s not how masterworking works. It does add 5% but it’s always based off the BASE value, as in the non-greater affix value, which in this case, for resistances on a ring, is 40% and 5% of 40 is 2. It functions this way for all stats.
For example, the same thing will happen if you have a greater affix main stat, on a two-handed weapon, like 270 strength. Masterworking one time will not raise it by 13.5. It will take the base max rolled value, which is 180, and add 5% of that, which would be 9. The only stats that don’t follow this math very well are +ranks stats and when hitting the “crit” on the 4/8/12 masterworking.
So that’s why it’s going from 60% to 62% Whether intentional or not, that is still how it works.
Thx for the info now i just gotta figure out how much crit chance my esu heirlooms produce lol. My base movement speed 168.1 and when i check on ps5 which is a pain it says 30% yet it said that before I got my last crit strike on my amulet. I have the max aspect 30%. I think it is either glitched or something because I believe I should have more then 51% max and that is including a 10 percent roll of crit chance on my focus.
Youre a wonderful and smart person! I got into the season late and i just noticed math wasn’t mathing like i thought it should. I found your comment and it clears things up. Thank you for your info! I hope you have a great day!
No problem The community has since tested masterworking in more detail. I’d recommend some of the other resources such as this chart below, to better understand how masterworking affects ranks to skills & passives. This chart only applies to legendary items. Uniques with +ranks follows a slightly different logic, if I remember correctly.
