Edit (6/13): Weirdest thing that stopped the stutters completely. I was downloading a large file and I noticed my game legit didn’t stutter at all, buttery smooth. Second the file stopped downloading, stutters came back. Call me crazy but can anyone else test this? Google “test files” and it should be the first link. I just chose the 10gig file to download and while the file is downloading my game has zero stutters. Is this a CPU/network utilization issue? I thought it was the GPU but now I don’t even know lol.
Edit (6/12): Latest hotfix didn’t do anything If anything, it made it worse since the OBS workaround no longer works. As reference, I tested a lot of my other games and they have zero issues.
This seems to be a GPU utilization issue from what I’ve noticed. I have a Founders Edition RTX 3080 and usually when it’s being utilized correctly, I hear my wonderful constant coil whine. Ever since the June 9th update, the coil whine has been sporadic. Going from high pitch to low pitch etc. anytime I’m in low density areas/dungeons. For example pit areas where I have cleared all the minions/boss rooms. Like clockwork, with no enemies or density around, my GPU starts to do the high pitch to low pitch coil and stutters.
In town, where there seems to be a lot of things going on, utilization is perfect and that constant coil whine. Whatever Blizzard did on the June 9th update needs to be rolled back please :3
Edit: Updated video - https://youtu.be/1r0XTdl7V5I
Edit 2: Possible fix with launching OBS? https://youtu.be/jabjEUEuPwk - First half of the video with no OBS launched. 2nd half with OBS launched. Massive difference. NO LONGER WORKS.
Yeah, I tested everything. Turning off gsync and reflex, vsync no reflex, vsync only, no vsync and it’s a mess lol. No matter what I do, it just stutters. Totally fine in town btw, no issues there.
The scan and repair didn’t fix anything for me, still stuttering just like the video on the OP shows.
If I release the frame cap to 400, I get around 320 max, but it stutters down to 200 all the time, if I lower it down to 75 it stutters down to 50, if I lock to my gsync of 144 it stutters down to 130 constantly.
Blizzard broke it and I’m done until they fix it. The experience is quite unbearable.
i see people with stability problems on this forum every day, yet I who didnt update my nvidia driver since d4 launch i only had problems in season 1 (some stupid memory leak was happening and i was geting out of memory with 32Gigs of ram xD). Windows 10 btw.
It may be the patch but it may need to rebuild the cache. Generally speaking any time a game I play gets a big update or I get a driver update, the games are stuttery for awhile until I explore every place again and it rebuilds the cache.
Hopefully that’s the case here.
It was really bad when I first logged in yesterday but by the time I logged off my FPS was smooth but I was still having my usual random ping spikes.
I am also using the same drivers. My policy is never to update anything that isn’t absolutely required to be updated.
When I noticed the problem I tried updating the driver to the most recent one and suprise, surprise, it got much worse.
I reverted back to my original driver before doing the scan and repair, but nothing helps. Lowering the graphics to Low settings makes it worse actually, which is proof this has nothing to do with performance.
Also been having these random latency drop periods that last awhile, although for me it seems to only happen when I group up with certain people. I play on pc and so does my friend, but whenever I join or invite him to a group it remains a little spikey on the dodges and the overall latency until I leave.
Similar issue here with a 4070.
Weird issue with frame cap and frame pacing in general. Gameplay full of micro stutters and avg FPS is always below the cap whatever you set it to.
Only started after the last patch.
They are working on DLSS3 Frame Generation so that may explain why they are tampering with the game’s rendering.
Detailed report of my experience on the PC bug reports if anyone is interested:
Please make reports with as much info as possible, Blizz has a decent record for smooth gameplay in all of their games so they should be able to fix it sooner rather than later.
