Massive damage decrease with bone spear

I started playing Diablo IV again for the first time in many months. I’m a level 100 necromancer and I did over 4 million critical hit damage before. Now I’m only doing 50k critical after picking up right where I left off. Why would there be such a massive decrease in the damage I do?

Bone spear got super nerfed along with the changes to how vulnerable and crit work. The idea was to tone down damage because people were just spamming bone spear with crit/vuln stacking to break the game.

Well that’s lame, I’ve always felt the necromancer is a weak class compared to other classes. Other classes wipe out all enemies before I can even reach them.

Wait until May 14th when the patch comes out. Minion Necros are finally making a comeback. There’s other good things coming too of course. Would highly recommend checking out the news section.

Way too many things to list in a simple post.

I’m doing just fine with my shadow damage/corpse explosion/minion build. You just need to retool and figure out what build works best for you. Bone spear still works. Especially with bone mages but you’ll need ways to really make it pop off by doing mixed builds.

I guess I’ll have to change my build. It took 3 bone spears just to kill a quillrat. Before I could obliterate a group of enemies with a single bone spear.

lol holy crap that’s bad. Yeah either you need new gear or you need a new build xD Or you’re doing NM dungeons with some questionable modifiers.

I sure hope so. I haven’t read anything on the coming update. I’ll make sure to look it up tonight.

Some patch notes are at the bottom of that list just make sure to hit the > Arrow when you come to it.

I also made up a post explaining all the things not covered, along with Necro examples for certain things (as I played Necro exclusively while testing the PTR). You can find it here:

I go into more detail about the systems that wasn’t fully explained in the patch notes or the campfire, along with going over things they left out entirely. Hope this helps. If you have follow up questions feel free to ask.

I’m so excited to try out all the new goodness in S4. I started like 2 days late into the PTR and only the night before it ended did I realize that more tempering recipes were available from bosses. Still had a blast tempering everything with Grasping tentacle size increases. I could pull whole rooms, even a little outside my view range into one bunch and just blow them up with BS. It was silly but fun.

Minions builds will still be meh.

The ai is trash skellys just stand there.
They need to make the summon skill a target skill as well.

Just do shadow necro. Easy tier 100 dungeons and all other content is easy as well.

Was the last time you played before the 1.1 nerf across the board Patch and before they changed the Damage Formula to cap Crit and Vuln in their multiplier form? Or have you played since that was done?

Bone spear is fine. I played bone spear in S3. Your build is just obsolete and needs to be brought up to date.

You know what you just discovered @OP ?

Everyone else’s experience that didn’t follow the “Meta” builds (from S1 at least)

Since S2 this has been fixed, your build is more on par with others and in return mobs no longer scale exponentially to billions of HP

Perhaps you don’t have that superiority fantasy but you can still properly clear things

i wonder when they will do a real nerf to barbarians that keep killing everything in one shot. its also bad and frustrating when you wait 10 minutes for a world boss spawn and a barb kill him in 2 seconds.

World bosses are irrelevant anyway. Until they’re a worthwhile event, just enjoy getting your rewards and quickly getting back to other business.
