Many players dont want D4 being a MMO - No raids for DLC!

Hi,

first of all I want to say that i like D4 and I appreciate really much how the game evolves and is getting better season by season.

But there are 2 things being really important for me:

  1. It’s not good when content is too difficult. AoZ was completely over the top.
Now the level 200 bosses are comming. I don’t expect to be able to beat them.
Nice that they are “optional”. You don’t really have to do them, so okay, let them be there for ppl who want to farm boss materials for hours to pray for the uber unique they are searching for…

But this topic is around my second point =>

  1. Diablo is no MMO. It is not World of Warcraft. We dont want raids for organized groups. Diablo was, is and will ever be a game for soloplayers. You can group - optionally! EVERY content in Diablo has to be beatable by soloplayers.
When content is comming to the game - raids - and you are not able to do it alone…
I can promise you: People will left the game. I already talked to enough ppl and read comments into this direction.
I don’t know the plans for the addon, maybe you have a solution for this problem.
But I see only 2 viable options:

Option 1: The raids are designed in a way that you can do it solo. Scaling from 1 to 8 players or however.

Option 2: Raids are for organized groups and you can’t do alone. in this option it’s the ONLY way, that the rewards are completely optional, that players can skip this. (like cosmetics)

I don’t want to have a clan in a Diablo game.
I don’t want to organize my day because I have raid every tuesday on 11 pm.
These years are over.

Hopefully, Blizzard listens… I think, this is an important topic.

And it’s totally fine when people have different opinions on this.
But I can tell, that I am not alone with my opinion.

Keep on the good work. I am really hyped for the upcoming dlc.

Regards

This would go this way, yes.

As for the difficulty thing, raids are indeed designed to be gated by difficulty usually, but this is achieved through a lot of ways. One which is common is raid specific mechanics (this also may be tied to the raid-lore). Second one would be “checks”, e.g. DPS-check, defense-check, movement speed-check, etc. - this one is to encourage players making specific builds to pass the checks.

If designed well, raid is a content that can sustain itself for a long time. I suggest that each Prime Evil is given their own raid after you beat the campaign (and defeat them in said campaign).

And who gave you the right to speak for the whole community?

I read your post and appreciate that you have an opinion but respect that others may not feel the same.

I happen to disagree with most your points. For context, I played early Blizzard games but did not dabble in Diablo until the 4th iteration. When Diablo first came out, I just felt annoyed they were getting distracted from Warcraft, Starcraft. Hey, sorry. I was a kiddo back then!

Personally, I accept in any game such as this that there will be content that is beyond my scope of enjoyment. As long as I can have a good time, I’m okay with that. I happen to appreciate it when they develop super sweaty things to make the super sweaty people happy. I only like to 3/4 sweat, myself. If content exists beyond my sweat level, I don’t hate on the game about it because I am just ME. Other people want an additional level of challenge and why should they be denied their extra sweat just because players like you and myself aren’t as sweaty?

I think you mean that YOU don’t WANT it to be something vaguely masquerading as an MMO. Okay, I get it. You have a history with the game and want it to stay true to that history. I happen to like that it blends solo and more mmo aspects. It sets it apart, for me.

I played an actual MMO Guild and was part of it’s discord. I felt done with that game but some of it’s members started playing D4 and so I was able to still be engaged with that guild in a new game and this was incredible for me. I adore these folks and am so glad I get to keep engaging with this guild in another game. I got to know them a lot, appreciate their lives, etc. Would not have had this experience with your mind-set.

Overall I just appreciate that you seem like good people and present an angle worthy of thought. I just happen to be on the opposing side, I guess. Still appreciate you for being thoughtful though!

I have never understood how one person can think they speak for more than themselves.

Here is a hint… you don’t.

Try say “I” don’t want instead of we.

Thanks.

If ‘we’ means more than 1, then he is correct though. If it means everyone, then obviously wrong.

In any case, yeah, if they add “raids” that scales completely from 1 player and upward, then they are okay. Otherwise, no.

I am not seeing the game getting better season by season though. More like the opposite.

Changed the title of this topic.
Of course I meant me + many others and not the whole community.

I would prefer option 1.
Raids should not be a thing until we have an in game group finder

Nice and sorry. It’s just a pet peeve of mine.

The problem of a group finder is:
Either the content is easy, so you can complete it with random players (who maybe have bad builds, gear, playerskill etc.) - then many players will claim it’s too easy…
or the content is difficult, then it doesn’t work when it’s an auto-matching system.
I fear that we end with raider_io for Diablo 4.
Or with being forced to have a clan.
I don’t like both.

I loved the idea of a Diablo MMO. I was excited by the idea of fighting hordes of demons with dozens of allies… but then someone asked me: do you really want to have to get together with more players to be able to play? and my opinion changed immediately.

If I can’t play 100% alone then I don’t like the idea.

Diablo Immortal tried to introduce mandatory group content (2, 4 and 8 players) and after 1 and a half years it eliminated all those requirements.

Diablo players (not even mobile players) don’t want mandatory group content.

I am generalizing when I talk about players, there is always someone who would like the logistics of gathering 20 strangers at 2 am on a Thursday.

To clarify, I am not strictly against introducing fun content for groups.
I know many Diablo players like playing with friends, clans or even random groups.
But I think this must be optional in a Diablo game.
This is my true intend of this topic.
The system should be designed in a way that you are not forced to be in a clan.
This does not fit in a Diablo game.

I agree, but it should be really optional, like HC mode. Nobody forces you to play that mode.

Or…

Option 3: Just keep raids out of the game and tell the raid crowd to go play an MMO.

And the points you brought up are exactly why Ill always be a hard no when it comes to this subject. I have no interest in playing with others and the moment a game gates content behind grouping is the moment I stop playing. The legions and world bosses are already pushing my limits.

The raid is introduced to fix one major content issue of Life service game, as other popular life service game has replayable multiplayer content either in PVP or Co-op PVE to retent the modern gamers. As D4 was not designed for PVP, Co-op survival mode also not suitable as those are catered for Shooter game like Left 4 dead, Division 2 and Helldivers 2.

Co-op PVE like Raid will be the only multiplayer PVE content they can offer unless they are innovative enough to invent a new co-op PVE mode which no other game has offered before.

I neither like or dislike Raid, but what can they offer in DLC?

One part I am concern of Raid is D4 is an isometric ARPG game which you control a zoom out small character. My previous raid experience in Division 2 was great as I enjoy many mechanic in the raid which you can only enjoy with a 3D first or 3rd person view. I didn’t play WOW or D.Immortal so I just can imagine I would not be able to enjoy the same mechanic challenging Raid experience in D4 like those 3rd person big character view in the shooter game.

One of the fun experience in Division 2 raid was 8 players group have to be split in two room, one guy need to turn 3 switches on one side one by one in sync with the other guy in the opposite room. Voice communication was vital, this kind of experience will be water down in Isometric ARPG game mode as everything look like a tiny object in the game

ARPG’s would get a lot of backlash if they introduced group-only content. It’ll never happen. Theres too many solo players in this genre.

As long as “raids” will be also for 1 player I would like them.

JUST DONT FORCE PARTY

Wait… what?!

I tried D:I when it came to PC, and found it kind of fun… then after playing the intro, I realized it had a ton of forced grouping, and immediately stopped playing… and havent been back, obviously.

So can all content in D:I seriously be done solo now? If so, I might re-install it!

Diablo Immortal content can be solo. Just buy 90% of the items from the cash shop.

All content that involves PVP (such as shadows versus immortals and arenas) still has group requirements. Everything else can be done alone (In other words, all PVE can be done solo). It may be difficult, but it is possible.

Before you needed to get 8 people together to make bosses… 7 wouldn’t let you press the button to enter, regardless of your money.

Now you can do it alone.

Obviously it’s easier in a group, but you’re not forced to do it.
