Hi there, since the forced graphical driver (NVIDIA) update I am unable to play D4. Also the live version doesn’t function properly and I have permanent game crashes. All started with testing the PTR and downloading a new driver. I tried everything, downloaded several driver versions, reinstalled the game. Nothing seems to work. Getting into the game and playing is already frustrating. Sometimes it works, sometimes black screens with nothing happening, sometimes total game crashes. When I make it in the game and press some buttons game freezes or lags like hell ending in a game crash in any case. I don’t know what I can do else. I recognized, that some people in the GER forums also reporting such issues. What is with you guys? Any problems like that? Or am I a single case. As said, before the forced driver update, everything went fine. No problems at all… it is really frustrating.
You aren’t the only one having issues. Especially with the PTR and crashes. You should check the PTR bug report forums. I’d say best suggestion would be to roll back your drivers, and try again. If not, the only thing you can do is possibly wait for a hotfix patch on the PTR, which I imagine we’ll only get 1 of, if we even get that.
PTR already has a ton of issues as is though. I’d say leave another bug report in the PTR bug report forum, and list the specs of your system. Not much else you can do sadly.
I haven’t had issues with the Live version of the game. Other than the occasional crash after a long session, which has been happening since the game came out.
The PTR for me is a WAY different story. Laptop will be able to get into the PTR, freezes on the loading screen, character screen, and eventually will get in kill a few demons and then its freezes completely.
Desktop PC - Freezes at character screen, and loading screen, was not able to get into the PTR at all with my desktop, but able to play fine on the Live version.
There is no doubt something is wonky with the PTR. I too had the same driver message when I tried the PTR, but weird not chalking it up to the driver being the culprit. I mean there has been some issues with various things with D4. I mean the whole steam patch trial issue last weekend after an update. Or earlier during launch where it flat out wouldn’t run on SSD or NVME
Yea sadly Nvidia are having problems atm I feel for y’all, I’d look up your card and see if there is any info on the net, work arounds to fix some of the problems have been found
You can follow some advice I posted here:
-Crashes after installing latest nvidia driver and PTR - #2 by DTMAce-1687
Also you can add this to your game settings for additional command line arguments:
-bypassgpudrivercheck
That will force the game to play with whatever driver you currently have installed.
I’m running on the driver from Jan 31st for my 4080S, its the release driver for that specific card model. The PTR requires version 552.xx, I’m running on 551.31.
This way I didn’t have to update.
But the link above gives you steps on properly removing and going back to an older driver that may work better with both versions.
Awesome thank you for this!
Just for anyone want to say this.
So I didn’t end up reverting back thanks to the previous poster with the gpu driver check bypass method.
I switched the game into Windowed mode instead of fullscreen and low and behold it loaded. running windowed at 16:9 1280x720
No you are not alone.
I downloaded PTR earlier and had my first total PC crash from it twice.
I uninstalled and went back to actual.
Now in Actual i have had two crashes also.
Something in the patch does not play well with my system.
The game runs flawlessly other than that.
They pushed an update to me after i reported it earlier of around 174mb and since then the crashing on actual started. Sooooo Hopefully that gets sorted.
On my end i did just check for chipset drivers and what not. Did need to update those, and a windows update. That out of the way, i am on crash number two now like 45 minutes into gameplay in actual.
