im having trouble dealing with mana, seems like im using alot. its not fun, is there a way to stop this or a good build?
Get mana cost reduction on all equipment possible. Pick skills that have a chance to refund mana cost when available and start building your char around that, eg Avalanche for ice abilities. There are others that generate mana or refund. There are also some aspects that can complement these skills, whether it’s straight resource regen, or buffs to other skills that provide better resource management. It’s pretty brutal before lvl 50 but it starts coming together if you’re building the right way for it.
thank you, what level do i keep the same gear? im constantly upgrading
Depending on how you spec, there are ways to generate/reduce mana costs.
-Mana Cost Reduction on gear;
-Resource generation on gear;
-Fire has Firebolt and passives for when you kill a burning enemy, Lightning has a passive for gaining 4/8/12 mana for picking up Cracking Energy, Ice has Avalanche for mana;
-There are two paragon boards (Elemental Summoner and Static Surge) that increase your mana pool - you can dip into them solely for the boost to your mana reserves;
-Legendary Aspects on rings that refund/generate mana, like +15-25 mana for using a cooldown, or +1-4 mana for CCing an enemy.
With the right gear, skills, and aspects, you can forgo your basic skill altogether.
MAna cost reduction on rings, and focus and resource generation. I have no issues with mana anymore, along with the avalanche passive, and avalanche aspect.
Rings can’t roll with mana cost reduction, only amulets, boots, and focus can. Furthermore, that stat is only advisable on boots because both amulets and focus can roll much more desirable stats.
Generally speaking there is nothing that can be done to reliably manage mana via gear because the base costs of skills is too high and the base regen rate is too low. Consequently, any percentile increases will be incremental at best and often completely useless. A 20% increase mana regen roll on your amulet translates to a measly 2 extra mana every second.
You also can’t afford to use more than 1 resource aspect for most builds and the best one by far is Prodigy which can only stretch so far.
At a certain point most Sorcerers will reach a point where they can kill things with just a few skills so mana is no longer a major factor but mana management never stops being an issue because of fundamental design flaws in the class.
I was just speaking broadly, Could have worded it better.
My rings have the following rolls
Mana resource regeneration
Vulnerable
Crit chance
Crit damage
Amulet:
CDR
MCR
devouring blaze
armor
Focus:
Crit chance
CDR
Resource generation
all stats
Could use a better roll on my focus overall though
Pretty good so far, Not having any issues with mana. Only problem that I have is fighting Lilith, because its such a long fight and I haven’t beaten her yet. Not to mention 1 shot mechanics. Best I can do so far with my iceshard build is almost done with phase 1.
Now this is a helpful, constructive thread.
You can either jump right to the meta (which isn’t fun) or you can experiment with different stats to find the right balance and play style.
I’ve been playing with a Hydra/Firewall build and while it isn’t OP yet, I take progression in strides. Meaning, when loot drops, there’s a couple of things I consider before I salvage or sell.
-
I hold onto 1 version of every aspect. Even if I’m not currently using it. If I find an aspect, that’s better than what I currently have in my stash, I replace it and salvage the old one.
-
I analyze every rare that I find. If I find a rare that has every stat I’m looking for, I consider replacing something currently equipped. (I’m level 71, so ancestrals are all I consider).
-
Consider your build. My two primary means of attack cost mana. Do I run out of mana during a battle? Yes, but rarely. Because I kite monsters into my attacks. That being said, for boss battles, I can run out. So currently, I’m looking for a couple good items that reduce my mana consumption. But…
-
Milestone upgrades. Every ten levels, I replace lower level gear. Why? Because the damage output is more important than mana. Meaning, if I can cast 4 spells and kill everything, versus casting 10 spells, run out of mana and run around defenseless…well, I think you get the idea.
-
Don’t always expect to get what you want. This is a random loot game. It’s luck of the draw. Some nights, I don’t find upgrades…but during my time spent grinding, I do gain a lot of materials and gold. That I’ll later use, for when I do find that prefect piece of gear.
In the end, it’s a balancing act. Until you hit end game, focus on overall damage and crowd control. If you’re running out of mana, you’re either to high of a difficulty, or you’re not doing enough damage.
*I apologize if this doesn’t help…
If your fire theres an aspect that restores mana on burn damage pretty sure. Thats the most usefull one I found on full fire build.
Another thing…
“Slow and steady wins the race”. There’s truth behind that quote, that’s why it exists.
The Incendiary Aspect? Really? I found it to be incredibly lackluster and I play a full Fire build (Meteor). It can only proc from a lucky hit which is unreliable at best. Idk maybe it works better with Firewall? For me Prodigy has been the only decent one but even then it isn’t enough on bosses.
my solution to the mana problems was to just not use mana
My build is centered around 3 or more burning over time skills. Firewall, Hydra and Firebolt, with a fourth and fifth, Inferno and Flame Shield.
At first, it doesn’t do much damage. It isn’t as sensational as a 1,2 combo, as it is with other classes…
But when I cast firewall as my first line of defense, followed by Hydra, followed by Firebolt, followed by Inferno, followed by Flame shield…or any other combination…especially when firewalls are proc’n…
What can I say, it’s working for me. Now streamers, copy my build and claim it for your own, just for revenue!
I’m rolling with a chain lightning/crackling energy build. I’ve got Prodigy’s on one ring and Recharging on the other. Of course I also have the Invigorating Conduit passive.
I only just swapped out Incendiary for Prodigy (silly me, thought that might work well since I have Fire Bolt enchantment, but the proc chance is abysmally low), so I’ll be in a better spot than I was.
I had to be careful with mana when fighting packs - a drought of crackling energy procs can sting - but against bosses I can just spam chain lightning until the cows come home (or adds appear lol).
Prodigy should be a big boost since I’m constantly popping cooldowns (Ice Armor, Teleport, Frost Nova, and Unstable Currents).
Static surge legendary node is really good.
Even picking every single mana regen, max mana, and mana cost reduction item/passive/spell, it will barely be enough. Sorcerers will not be viable compared to the other classes until they are able to properly generate mana, such as through basic abilities. One pixel per cast does not count for this.
As it currently is, sorcerers need to focus entirely on mana regen to be able to engage in combat, which surely is not in line with the design philosophy, and it does not match the resource concept for other classes.
This is only really true for fireball and meteor sorcs since they don’t get to use avalanche or pick up crackling energy for mana. Every other end game sorc has practically infinite mana.
