I may be speaking just for myself or a smaller community and not the average player base here, but part of what makes this game fun for me, and games of similar genre, is the theory crafting that goes to putting together different builds. Based on how reworking both skill and paragon points behaves in this game, it makes it very difficult to do this for just one alternate build. Between the points you have to spend your gold on and the items you then have to re-roll to achieve the stats you’re looking for it becomes quite the time consuming effort. Maybe it would be in the games best interest moving forward to make such efforts more… effortless? At least I think that removing the cost for skill and paragons so that players that want to play around with different builds and abilities are not punished in a very gold demanding system. It would also benefit players who just like to figure things out on their own without the help of a community that has done the work/testing for them on certain things. Diablo 3 is still one of my favorite games because as long as I found the gear for a build I wanted to try, I was able to do so on my own time. Unfortunately since this is not the case now, D4 has created this seemingly endless grind of the same activities just to get to the part I really want to do. It makes me think that this monotonous grind has pushed a lot of players away, and without new content for them to consume it will be an endless cycle every season.
They should add an armory like in Diablo 3
skill,
skill,
skill… ohhh
skill WITH stun!!! Guess it’s that 1!
Yeah, something like that would definitely be ideal. I’ve spent maybe 20 hrs of game time trying to get enough gold to try a different build on my sorceress only to hesitate to make the switch because I know there is no going back without another grind
Changing builds in D4 is a punishment to players
I agree. I should be able to click a button and spend the 5 mil gold needed. Would cut down on point distribution and thinking about what you did last time.
It isnt an endless grind to respec, maybe if your rolling stats on gear. Rolling stats is punishing with the bloated pool.
It really isnt, they just need to add QoL like reset paragon board.
Hey I stopped playing till next season, I can throw ya my gold this evening when I get home if you want.
Agreed. I would happily be working on several different builds at once for multiple characters even, but the various build/reset/stash/character slot limitations prevent doing so.
So instead of spending the whole season playing various builds, I spent 5 weeks playing 3 characters with 1 build each and then stopped because:
-
- ran out of inventory space and it’s a nuisance to keep having to sort, shuffle and delete
-
- it’s a pain to switch builds and then, if it doesn’t work out, switch back
-
- once you hit 60-70ish most of the ‘fun’ of build-experimenting is done and now you just have a long, long grind to improve it further.
It seems Blizzard decided players should only focus on 1-2 character per season and if you want QoL things like “more stash space” you should keep playing for 5 or 6 more seasons and maybe buy some expansions in order to get them.
“Pay it our way” is the name of the game, I guess.
Yeah you really nailed it on the head here. I’m no coder and I won’t even pretend to know what would go into making something like this game work but I really hope that they figure out some real solutions for a lot of these issues and not temporary fixes. Otherwise there will be no way I would be willing to buy an expansion that they clearly already very focused on.
