Making D4 "Harder" a huge mistake

So streamers have vidoes asking if players what D4 harder and I can’t believe I have to even come here to explain how silly and stupid this is…

WE DO NOT WANT THE GAME HARDER!!!

Proof… Every season what builds to people play? 99 percent of players play whatever the most OP build is if they look it up and even if this means playign a different class than they are used to…

Blizzard sold the expansion with a super OP class just so everyone would buy the Spirit Born and play it!

SO please Rod Fergusson… don’t be a moron!
WE DONT WANT IT HARDER!

People want more to do to keep building gear, reaching achievements, better challenges or endgame NOT THE GAME HARDER.

Explanation: D4 has almost NO game customization. You play soft or hard core… Hard core is an afterthought and THE SAME CRAP… with death… WHAT A JOKE. So really there is one way to play. How silly is this?

My suggestion is to ADD more game modes. The more options you give people the wider the net you cast to catch players.

Simple or as complex as you want, but a quick solution… ADD EXPERT mode. This mode would have a reduced xp rate and drop rate with bosses having more health… JUST LIKE YOU ARE PLANNING NOW… Then leave soft core as the weekend gamer dad grind do not have 2000 hours per season to play. If need be just swap out hard core because it is not cared for anyway.

In soft core you can make master working and tempers act different and not be so annoying.

Good luck, thanks for taking my idea for having a chest drop on uber bosses so we are not forced into 4 man groups with shady people who just try to steal your mats.

Why are you yelling?

All of Maxroll streamers constantly ask for the game to be easier while the devs want completing the journey / Torment Four to be 10% of players.

I know I sure feel cool knowing I achieved something most others could not.

But… we want the game to be harder.
It is very easy now.

WE want the game harder.
If WE wanted a one click shooter WE would go and play a FPS game…

I like the idea of having aspirational content. But I think they’re going about it the wrong way.
Pits should have levels that even the most broken builds can’t beat. However, the glyph levels should be capped lower or the pit tiers should go higher so that everyone has an opportunity to feel like they’re able to max their build.
Also, if 10 percent of players are meant to make it to torment 4, how are they expecting people to complete the seasonal journey?
I agree, the game is really easy now and it gets boring quick, but playing with lowered drop rates and the hitting a wall where I’m no longer able to level glyphs, I can’t complete the seasonal journey or even reach the top world tier just doesn’t sound that great.

Then have t5 not kill casual player base that saved the game lmfao

Yea harder and less fun even more huh lol

Copium is definitely real with d4 sad see

If the upper difficulty is inaccessible, what’s the difference if it’s T4 or T5? Either way, there’ll be a ceiling that people can’t reach without the right character configuration.

The argument should be this; every skill that has a build (ie supported by game design, ie aspects/uniques) should be able to reach within the same realm as the “top” builds.

I’m tired of the game being cluttered up by aspects and uniques that no one uses because they don’t provide enough power/utility to sufficiently elevate any build.

Making D4 harder is absolutely the right move. It was a complete snore fest in S7. They just made it harder in the wrong spot and went extreme. This is based on 10% aspirational numbers they are aiming for. They could have done this in much better ways than changing the base game to be 10% hard like with a new updated AoZ, or mindcages, ect as the basis for aspirational gameplay.

Someone could have. Not this team. You keep talking like there’s a good, talented team behind this game who can make smart decisions and come up with creative solutions. There isn’t. There’s just number guys who are not getting the numbers they want and they’re just churning through ideas to trick players into playing longer and forcing their coders to make it work.

That’s all there is. This game is never going to elevate to a good game because no one is trying to make a good game. They’re trying to make a money printer. They don’t know the formula for that though.

It’s time to stop being surprised by blizzard decisions about D4. You don’t get to choose how/if it evolves. You get one choice: play or don’t play.

This is their best.

100 % agree…
Like = play
Don’t like = don’t play, go play another thing…

Problem fixed…

The problem is blizzard has no idea who they want to play this game.

I’ve never seen a dev flip flop back and forth so much trying to cater to both casuals and hardcore players.

First it was hard, then it was easy, then hard again, then easy again, now they’re going back to hard…

Jeez blizzard, just pick a lane.

This is exactly what I’m confused about. Personally, I think there are enough ARPGs aimed at the hardcore blaster and it was nice to have a casual, introductory type ARPG - I don’t want D4 to just be another POE or revert back to an old Diablo that people have nostalgia for.

Diablo 4 has been out long enough now, full expansion and 8 seasons in. I don’t think anyone is playing for the “leveling process” which is why you see these Discords all have channels to “boost me to 60 please”. People want to get 60 and then start to enjoy the game when everything matters in the Torment levels.

I’m fine if they want to add stuff for these hardcore blasters and make harder, more aspirational content but I don’t think they’ll ever succeed in that - as evidenced by them immediately finding ways to 1 shot Belial on the PTR. People seem blind to the fact that all of these blasters do the same thing in Last Epoch or PoE or PoE2, they all have builds that are completely blasting the endgame content in all of those games with ease.

Also, I am confused why they didn’t just focus on doing this for the Hardcore game mode - make that even more challenging for people that want a challenge like that, idk.

You are incorrect. There are plenty of us who want leveling to be an experience, rather than a formality that you zoom through by accident.

Stalling progression is the only answer they have to their lack of endgame. The game is funner while you still have progression. As soon as you reach that low or no progression wall you start having an existential crisis.

One must hope that while they are doing this, they also have more they plan to bring to the game in the future. And not wait till the next expansion to do so. People are playing right now. Not just in 2026 when your expansion comes out. We are logging in, today.

Really? After doing 8 times & double that if you do any alts?

I leveled multiple characters during open beta. I leveled 2-3 characters at launch. I have leveled at least 2-4 characters each season. The worst thing about leveling is when it happens faster than i can spend the skill points… churning through gear at breakneck speed because, even on normal, the xp rolls in faster than even S7’s insane loot drop rates.

Yeah i want slower leveling. Not slow… slower. The way it is now, we may as well just skip to 60 because the speed makes it irrelevant.

I want to spend my skill points one at a time. I want to salvage a whole inventory of white/blue/yellow because i didn’t level and everything i’m wearing is good enough. I want observable progression, not turbocharged blink-and-you-miss-it.

Leveling the first character in a season is a whole new environment and there are always things to discover. Leveling subsequent characters in a season has the fun of benefitting from the first character’s hard work and enjoying feeling overpowered during 1-60.

People who don’t want to level can get carried at the aforementioned breakneck speed. They have the choice. If all leveling is at breakneck speed, no one has a choice.

Alright, I hear ya. I’m personally not interested in the whole leveling process. I guess the only thing that could is if they made it more interesting, but not sure how they’d do that - I don’t think that what they’re implementing here is it. Just feels like nothing matters until 60, now it’s just slower.

Why casual can’t just play T1 instead?
