Current Warplan System Issue
-The current Warplan system randomizes activities, with each activity linked sequentially to the next.
-Players can reroll if they don’t like the assigned activity.
However, there’s a problem:
-Even after up to 3 rerolls, players may still receive activities they don’t enjoy.
-If players choose to play non-Warplan activities instead, they are not properly rewarded under the current system (due to cube)
Proposed Improvement: Player-Selected Warplan Activities
-Allow players to customize their Warplan activities based on their preferences.
Example 1
If a player prefers NMD, they can select all 5 Warplan activity slots as NMD.
Example 2
If a player prefers Lair Boss, they can select all 5 Warplan activity slots as Lair Boss.

The point is to make you do all the activities so that it makes the Holy Metrics (blessed be their spreadsheets) look good. The goal was never to let you do what you want. It’s the illusion of choice.

I didn’t really look into it before i played, but this is exactly what I thought it was when they said “Craft war plans to create your own endgame progression” as it stands right now this is not the case, it isn’t even close to creating our own end game, more like pick one from the premade paths available.
Side note I am actually forced into re-rolling a path rght now as I cannot for the life of me loot a compass and as such stagnant in the make your own endgame…
Its back to the old way until the RNG gods smile on me. (the last pick on my tree wasn’t a choice)

I was also under the impression that we would be able to pick the activities, but I kinda like it this way, I would keep both options to be honest
How is this “customize your own Warplan” when the system just randomizes activities for you?
Below it’s just an example I can think of
1/ NMD → Infernal Horde → etc…
2/ Helltide → NMD → Infernal Horde → etc…
3/ Kurast → Pit → NMD → Helltide → Infernal Horde → etc…
4/ Infernal Horde → etc…
I do not enjoy Infernal Horde—it feels boring.
What makes it worse is that even something like Devil May Cry Bloody Palace (which is same by design) is still way more engaging & fun.
So where’s the “customization”? Warplane Tree ?
Right now it just feels like RNG deciding my activities, not me building my own plan.
If the idea is to let players create their own Warplan, should at least be able to exclude activities player don’t like.
Otherwise, this isn’t customization—it’s just rerolling until you get something slightly less frustrating.

You don’t need a compass or NMD key - just hit map to show the war plan in the lower left and use the appropriate key as shown to go directly to the activity. You can use a key of your own if you prefer to know what you’re getting but it’s not needed.
yes cuz forcing us to do content we dont like is such an amazing thing lets remove more player choice and watch the player base go away

Wouldn’t letting people pick exactly what they want to do increase these metrics?

I would like it to be “do any activity you want, get any reward you want from it”
If I want obducite from doing IH
If I want armor from doing a NMD
If I want gem fragments from whispers, etc
If I want unique loot from helltides.
I also don’t like that it’s per-character. Having to start over when you die in HC is a huge pain.
Set a reward, set a method, let us do whatever method we want for whatever reward we want.

They want the metrics to show that people “”“like”“” and play all the content.
And having people being able to pick what they like would reflect that. Again, these metrics you are obsessed with as some kind of “gotcha” against Blizzard, would be better if people could pick what they want not be forced into activities they dislike.

Except they wouldn’t because people don’t like all the content. People wouldn’t do the slower and less rewarding stuff. You can pretend it’s not metrics all you want, but it still is.
I really dont think it would be a good idea to let players customize the War Plans to such a degree where you just choose whatever activities you want. It would ruin a legitimate design goal for the system (encoruage playing diverse content).
But some player choice could be fine.
Imo let players pick 1, and only 1, activity that wont show up in the War Plans, and any special rewards that activity normally offers is moved to another activity.
Although, as far as rewards go, the default already should be that any rewards could be gained anywhere.
Could also be an option if balanced.
Like, do a randomized War Plan and get double rewards (or whatever ratio is needed to balance it), or pick your own War Plan and get normal rewards.
More player choice, but the incentive mechanism is kept intact.

The issue isn’t the war plans, it’s the passive tree people want to invest into.
I personally like the system as is. The issue being the passive activity tree is tied to completing the war plan you just made. If that was separated, or gave say half the experience or more when completing the activities outside of the war plans I think that would work better.
The only thing not tied to war plans that is in the passive tree are altering your whispers.

Giving half experience outside war plan could work (or 25% or whatever, it would need to be tested to find the appropriate ratio, since picking your own activities come with an efficiency bonus the system would need to compensate for).
But separating them entirely, so there was no reward for doing the War Plan would make it stop working, surely?
Yea separating entirely, no. Didn’t mean that per se, wrong choice of words. Just giving an incentive to do these activities outside of it is all.
Right now it’s a chore list so you can unlock X, Y and Z in the passive tree. Rather than just allowing the player to focus on the one or multiple activities they want to do instead.
I like the diversity myself, but I also understand the want to just maybe focus on Pits for the day, or NMDs, or whatever activity you want to help that particular part of your progression.
Infernal horde is boring as hell don’t make me play it thanks!
I ran a Helltide outside of War Plans and still got activity XP when opening the chests, so it seems you can still get XP without doing war plans.
I agree we need to make choice of our own. Helltides are so bad I am completely out of hearts and there is pathetic density even at torment 12. So its such as chore. Hordes also bad no rewards and no density. I need to push pits for glyps and not wasting time on pathetic content.
You get some, but not a lot.
