Make up your mind

Blizzard: D4 can be completely played solo

and

Blizzard: If you want to repeat dungeons you are forced to join a group.

Well?

maybe they want you out in the world and not grinding a safe dungeon in the dark by yourself 100x because of how the scaling works, giving you the ability to gear and level up without going anywhere else

I think it’s more they don’t want you to repeat a dungeon at all, but currently you can use joining a group as a workaround

That may be their reason, but it contradicts their previous stance of playing solo. If they don’t want you repeating it, get rid of the ‘group replayability’ as well.

They also say they want players to have the ability to approach the game and play as the player sees fit, in whatever order they desire.

They need to make up their mind.

I personally don’t spend all my time camping in one particular dungeon. I enjoy the exploring aspect, but I want the ability to reset if I so desire.

Also Blizzard: * The Reset Dungeon button has been disabled.

That’s kind of the point of the thread…

Where did they say you can’t solo nightmare dungeons? As I’m guessing the ability to reset will be the usage of the keys.

I think it was people in the Beta resetting the same dungeon over and over and gaining too much exp in a short time that they wanted to quash. Dungeons will reset on their own after [time] so if you want to do nothing but dungeons you’ll have to find several that you can do in a loop or something

Apart from world bosses they’ve even said the opposite (that all content should be manageable solo)

That’s pure speculation and actually contradicts their dev note on the blog.

Maybe, but they sure are being vague about it. Resets every 15 minutes? Does the dungeon reset if you kill the boss? I get the part about farming elites at the beginning, resetting, kill the elites at beginning, lather, rinse, repeat. I get that they frown on that. But if you finish the boss, have it reset then?

it’s how it worked in the beta if you didn’t reset it manually, and it’d be ludicrous if they never reset

Or logout and in, or go do other content after finishing the dungeon.

They are being confusing in their wording, but no, you don’t have to join a group to get a new map and boss/mob reset.

The keyed dungeons on a separate reset system.

That’s what I figured. My understanding was that world bosses were the only things that you’d somewhat have to group up for. Even then, there were a couple people soloing Ashava in the beta.

That is a workaround, but what load will that put on the servers? Hundreds of thousands of reloading games every second?

Do you actually have insider info, or are just asuming things? Because from the dev note you can’t arive at this conclusion at all.

I still think this is a misinterpretation. There is no way they would have it be so annoying to reset dungeons

Yeah I don’t know what the server load will be and how it will impact the game. I also don’t know what benefit running a specific single dungeon gives a player. Is there going to be something that drops from that one boss? Is there something unique to that dungeon? Why would someone want THAT one instead of just doing a different one without making a new game?

So much I don’t know yet about this. I was alarmed though and at first thought we could not reset at all, ever, without a group. That is thankfully not the case. I never used the reset button in Beta and the dungeons always had new maps and mobs when I came back for another game session. So that did not change.

If I had my druthers, just make it so you can’t reset the dungeon without killing the boss. That would quash the ‘elite farming’ that some players were doing. I personally didn’t do that (I was having too much fun wandering around and exploring everything).

Since they disabled manual resets; they’ll either have it on a timer, or further resetting will have to be done with use of nightmare keys. Unless there’s some workaround like the proposed logging out and in.
