Yes they can, but at this point we cannot trust them to do their own testing. They need help and I think a lot of us are used to testing anyway. So we will just volunteer for 1 month before each season.
If you make the PTR a month long with the season content now part of the PTR, people may not play the season. With all of the boosts now on PTR, and season content on the PTR, I’m a little worried people will not play the actual season as it is.
The PTR could be 3 months long still it won’t matter. We need a second past for the PTR. 4 days should be enough time for gathering data. Then a second PTR with changes the following week another 4 days of testing. At this point it’s the amount of iteration which correlate to better balances.
Let’s just say it wouldn’t go as you think. It’s a lot of repetition, followed by reports, and more repetition. All of which is based on what they have you testing. They typically test systems to make sure they work correctly, they don’t typically test builds to the extent that players do.
They’ll test from A to B to C to D, whereas a player would go from A to K to P back to G and then somewhere off in left field to negative 586.
Depending on the bug and how easy it is to replicate, the developers give it a priority, and you go right back to testing something else. If it’s taking too long for you to test something they also give you another task. They don’t want you wasting time testing every little detail, no one has time for that.
So things that may be broken on launch, let’s say an interaction with a skill that wasn’t even touched from the previous build, aren’t even tested because it technically didn’t receive any changes, or it was such a small change that testing it wouldn’t be worth the time.
Now this isn’t an excuse for Blizzards testing, or lack there of. Just painting a picture is all.
The problem is many treat the PTR as actual season. Those players will spend less time or even skip the season if they get to play a 1 month PTR which has easy mode with Boost NPC and Mythic Vendors
I have actually thought about this before making this post. There’s gonna be always pros and cons. Unfortunately, this is one of the side effects of having 1 month PTR but in return you get less seasonal bugs and there’s no fear of having mid season nerfs because the nerfs happen right before the actual season starts.
Now the only question is will 1 month be enough to fix all the bugs? If the devs won’t address the exploits after a 1 month PTR, then this becomes a pointless exercise. We might as well skip the PTR
Blizzard can still fix all the bugs any time when it is reported in season 7. Just they will not fix those Positive bugs which affect certain class over performed. There is a lot complaint on SB bugs, mainly due to the difficulty of content has been increased. Players especially who has no access to the DLC class blame the SB bugs for the difficulty they are facing in the PVE content. I didn’t see a lot of complaints about the bug causing ball lightning sorc over performed in season 2. As the content was much easier back then without the Pit. Some bugs used by sorc in Season 2 include the Esu Ferocity was not even patched in Season 3. Same as Shatter was bug from season 4 until now.
