With the bland stat/affix pool that exists for Diablo 4 why not add a magic find stat back into Diablo 4 exactly as it existed in Diablo 2? I feel it would add so much to the game in many ways. Maybe take the current legendary drop rate that exists (feels way too high and at 1000%) and make it very low and let the players take Magicfinding into their own hands with Magic Find itemization through gearing. Having a separate mf gear set always was sick. Like sure maybe it effects my clear speed abit or maybe you’ll sacrifice some QoL but that’s the choice! Choice is powerful and fun when the player gets good choices to choose from set in front of them in a game that revolves around loot.
Unsure if I’m just too in love with d2s itemization or if this could be huge for d4s itemization and problem with it feeling like a loot piñata.
Itemization is riddled with complexity in D4. Almost too much.
Affixes are all over the place with
Crit chance, crit hit,
Lucky hit chance
Lucky hit effects (like execution)
Vulnerability damage
Evade changes (charges, movement speed, reduced CD on attack)
+Skills
Attack speed (all)
Attack speed (specific abilities)
Skill damage Main Stat, Resource Main Stat, Crit Chance Main Stat etc
Potion Effects Affix
+Damage to CC mobs
+Damagfe to specific CC types (slowed enemies, chilled enemies etc)
+Damage to Close enemies
+Damage to far enemies
-damage from Close enemies
-damage from far enemies
-damage (all)
Resistances
Overpower Damage
Weapon Damage is no longer cut and dry with classes like Rogue and Barb. You only need weapon damage on weapons that are utilized by your selected abilities.
and more…
Theres so much to think about when it comes to whats going to be best for your character and your build because all of these things are beneficial. Its a bit overwhelming because you benefit in someway from everything.
i was a little disappointed there was no plus to magic find affix. at the rate things are dropping does one need it? it would still be nice to see that affix back though.
All I know is these itemizations are bloated in not a good way, and I am already looking forward to Loot 2.0 which will invariably drop in like a year after launch with greatly improved and streamlined itemization.
Hardly any of those you listed are polarized or meaningful feeling. The problem is the system at its core is really flat feeling % based numbers. I’m not a genius but there should be more meaningful layers beyond just player power like magic find and resists and they should look into runewords in my opinion.
Complexity isn’t accurate description. Most of the stuff on items are useless. You can reduce what matters on items to only a few specific traits. It’s actually a very simple item system when you learn 90% of the stuff you see on the items doesn’t matter in terms of player power.
There is some bloat, particularly the individualized attack speed on ability, +damage to slow, +damage to chill, affixes but, that 90% of affixes are useless is just not accurate. It feels like affixes, like in diablo 2, are more dependent on your build. I thought people who wanted complexity and diverse options would actually praise the current system for the most part.
