Really Sad, just found out that I won’t be playing Diablo 4 on the road since there is no macOs version.
I just assumed there would be since Diablo3 is playable on MacOS, so is WoW. Diablo 2 was not but I just assumed that was due to the old engine or something under the hood.
Really disappointing. The new M2 Mac GPUs look insane.
And now with Apple supporting more games running natively with the new Metal kit (just announced at WWDC) it just seems like a bad look at the worst time.
Hope there is MacOS version planned. You guys have MacBooks right?
Yea nah, Apples got too much control over their products. You pay a truckload for something that feels like a lease or company-owned device, as you’re not really in control of any of it. Very evident with hardware. The iOS store makes this extremely clear. I’m sure the Mac App Store thing is similar.
I’m sure someone will figure out a way to get it running though. Good luck!
Well this game has been in development for a long time so obviously the decision to not support Mac was a decision that was made a long time ago.
I really can’t see them changing it now for the few people that actually game on Mac. I have a Macbook Pro but I 100% knew it was only going to be for work and workstation use when I bought it.
Until now, Apple did absolutely nothing to help developers so yes, it was not meant to play on it.
But now, they are delivering a very powerful CPU+GPU and all API and tools so developers can publish games easily (or more than before, at least).
When you see performances of games running through their “Tool porting kit”, we can’t imagine what we’d get if games were native.
Think you guys miss the point. Diablo3 and World of Warcraft both retail and classic support Mac. But Diablo4 took mac away. Why?
Apple is not for games but are focusing more and more on games. The WWDC just in the the past month had a huge focus on games. Hideo Kojima was there asking developers to use the new Metal game kit to port games over to mac which is supposed to be super easy now. Maybe it is easy maybe it not. Point is Apple is switching focus to games now to get a slice of the industry.
That was released back when Apple wasn’t so…Apple about things.
From what I understand it’s just barely hanging on in that department.
Because Apple’s gonna Apple.
It’s not that great, at the moment. It may get better, but it’s not going to be what everyone thinks it will. It’s not native support, so there are going to be major issues.
You are able to run Diablo 4 in a Mac (at least with Apple Silicon, e.g.: M1, M2). Latest Apple Web Dev conference, they announced a Game Porting Kit. It is not officially released, but there are videos and sites that can guide you how to install it. You don’t need a developer account, you can use your apple account to download all pre-requisites.
What you may expect:
First, I have a MBP M1 Max 32 GB, no last model but quite OK.
Diablo 4 runs perfectly fine with the default settings the game set (I don’t see any different from my desktop gaming PC).
There is Gamepad support: I am using PS4 DualShock 4. Responses is great, and game allows you to switch between keyboard and control immediately. It is really nice.
Believe it or not, not crushes so far.
Give it a try. And yes, it is a pity that Blizzard does not support native games anymore (I play a lot D3 and Hearthstone in my Mac).
My understanding is the new Game Porting Kit, while it allows running non-native games, the real power is during the game compilation process. As the kit has tools to translate source code they have have written using windows drivers into a mac native version.
It should be on developers to use this tech - not the players burden.
Correct. Other similar games (e.g.: D3 and Path Of Exile) are delivered by Blizzard and GGG as Mac games (they run under Rosetta emulation).
So, in the meantime Blizzard decides to deliver a version of D4 for Macs, it is good to know they are work around to get it working.
Regards.
Yo, I had the same problem a long time ago. Macs allow you to partition part of the drive into windows. You just need a USB or CD copy of whatever windows you’re trying to install. If you’re that desperate to play D4 try it out. It won’t be the best thing in the world, but it’ll work.
I’m pretty sure you can only use bootcamp if you have an intel processor. They don’t make macs or macbook pros with Intel processors anymore. My Macbook Pro is a 2019 model so I can do bootcamp but this game isn’t going to mesh well with Mac hardware either way. My PC has an RTX 4090 and an i7-13700kf and this game makes my cpu temps go up to 50-60c at 1-2% CPU utilization for some reason. It is overclocked but still it has an Arctic Liquid Freezer AIO. It idles at 27-28c otherwise. A macbook or Mac is going to have way worse cooling with older processors and high CPU temps. Blizzard is probably doing people a favor by keeping it off Mac.
