I’ve been playing Lost Ark for almost a year now and something like 60% of my time is invested in PvP arenas. I’m really curious to know if I am the only one here who finds the PvP experience in a ARPG exhilarating. So I couldn’t help but wonder if it would be a good addition to Diablo 4.
One aspect that really impressed me in Lost Ark pvp is how balanced the matchmaking system is (I know its not perfect, but generally its more than fair). It really makes the experience enjoyable for both seasoned players and newcomers.
There are also the different pvp battle modes (deathmatch, team deathmatch and team elimination) that gives some diversity and keeps the gameplay fresh so it caters to different playstyles.
So in the case of Diablo 4, I know there are 2 different regions where you can toggle pvp on and compete against players. But I feel like there is much more that can be done to improve on this. I believe that the addition of a pvp arena similar to that of Lost Ark can add a new layer of competitive gameplay.
Of course its important to consider the balance between pvp and pve. I mean, Diablo 4 and pretty much all the Diablo series have been centered around a core pve experience mainly. So any addition to the pvp I think should complement rather than detract from pve. And I think Lost ark did that really well.
Lost Ark has the best ARPG PVP in the world right now.
But D4 simply isn’t set up to mimic that. LA was built from the ground up with PVP as a big focus. D4 doesn’t have the mechanics that would allow that to happen.
Could you explain why D4 cant have that in a few sentences or examples? Like when I open up my character sheet, I can see that there is a section for PvP that takes into consideration “Damage Reduction” and “Armor Contribution”. I feel like devs can expand on that to cater to people who would like a more engaging pvp experience.
Because LA was specifically built for PVP, so it has PVP mechanics.
Stuns, knockdowns, counters, etc. It has a lot of mechanical pieces to make PVP satisfying. D4 does not have those, because D4 mechanics are all based on Player vs Mob interactions which are way different than Player vs Player interactions.
Sure, D4 has crowd control, but again those are entirely designed around Player vs Mob interactions. They’re not designed for enemies to be able to counter them.
yeah its easily one of the coolest experiences in a video game out there. I was super excited for d3 when they originally announced it with the PvP arenas that were basically the same thing.
i’d love to see it in d4 but blizzard can’t really pull off pvp in their games especially with the pressure of their hardcore pve audience/work force that cant handle real content so although i’d love to see it, they just wont do it and if they did it’d be super diluted because “ppl gotta see big numbers in pve”
I see what you’re saying. I agree that the CC mechanics in D4 aren’t as complex as the ones in LA, but we do have slows, freeze, stuns etc… maybe not counters but an approach I can see is for the devs to make CCs in D4 behave differently on players than they do on Mobs?
The only thing pvp is ever going to get is new cosmetics to buy with the stupid currency. Blizzard never cared for Diablo pvp they are not going to start now.
I mean, I dont really see a reason to not cater to both pvp and pve player. I agree that D4 will always have a much more engaged pve community than they will ever have in its pvp counterpart. But I believe they can fix that issue by scaling the damage when a player engages another player.
I know that the priority wont (or never) be oriented towards pvp. But I dont think that means that there isnt a good chunk of players that wouldn’t want to see some pvp content added as well.
yeah i pretty much agree with you, in my personal opinion it should be designed for pvp first and then numbers should be adjusted for pve instead of the other way around and it’d be a much more solid game in both aspects

its just the sad unfortunate truth that the type of people who have the power to make the decisions in the direction of the development aren’t ppl who are brave enough to pvp
Apart from D2, I know that the Diablo series haven’t really gotten much love in the pvp department. But I think that since D2 came out, Blizzard has had a pretty decent experience building pvp related content (WoW, OW, Hots) and since Activision has been part of the picture we also have all the CoD games as well.
Idk but it seems like Blizzard as a whole has some extensive knowhow when it comes to creating pvp content. I just think its a missed opportunity to not implement what they have learned over the decades in D4. I really think they can do something big here, especially with the concept of seasons.

I see no problem with the devs adding like just “pvp arena” like system where we can queue for in teams of 2v2 3v3 even 4v4 format. This is all fine and arguably very easy to do. But i simply DO NOT TRUST, this dev team to even remotely be able to balance things at all or come up with a good baseline pvp template stat system.
With that being said, even if balance is bad, i still 100000% want them to add a team pvp arena system and maybe like objective oriented team pvp events. REGARDLESS of lack of balance in the game.

And don’t try to compare an ARPG to Lost Ark. Lost Ark is a trash time waster MMORPG. Has no base of comparison here.
Same here, their initial attempts may have a lot of issues to fix. But on a long enough timeline I really do think that Blizzard can come up with a solid pvp content if enough players raise their voice.
I know there will always be people who are 100% against having pvp added to the game. But overall I dont think it would bother the majority of players to have some pvp content.
Ultimately no one can ever force you to engage in pvp if you dont want to, so the risk I think is minimal.
That’s a really bad takeaway. PVP is the best part of Lost Ark and the only part worth playing. It’s all the P2W PVE timesink garbage that turned players off, not the PVP.
I agree, a lvl 100 can completely wreck anyone they come across with 10+ level difference (with some very rare exceptions).
Its kind of why I was wondering if people would be interested in seeing devs adding new content/updates to the pvp content to make things fair for everyone.
