I was enjoying this game for the first time since launch, right up until lag spikes started killing my characters. The first time was only a level 10 rouge, no big deal; but the second one was going really well up until I was almost level 50 on a barbarian when the servers lagged and got me killed. Is there no way to recover a character killed in such a manner that is outside of my control (my connection is not the problem)?
I understand that hardcore is not for the feint of heart, and fully accept lost characters when the fault is mine, but I canât understand why there is not even a way to send a ticket or something to request Blizzard at least look into it when itâs clearly their servers to be blamed, and if there is I canât seem to find it.
If only I could play offline. . .

There is no way.
Scrolls of escape automatically activate on disconnect. Theyâre supposed to at least YMMV. But thatâs all the protection you get.
Season 4 servers seem to be notably worse than seasoon3 - especially the last 2 weeks after the last 2 patches game is rather unstable unfortunately.
Thanks for the reply. I guess Iâll take consolation in knowing itâs not just me experiencing unstable connection. I started a new character and read the warning, (which I guess I didnât read the first couple times) before you start hardcore that blizzard wont help with slain characters so I got my answer there too lol.

They canât possibly properly investigate everyone to give out âfairâ resurrects without causing all sorts of drama. They would need a whole department for that and would still fail to impartially differentiate between legit cases and âemotionalâ ones where cat kicked out cord. Itâs understandably infinitely easier for them to just deny everyone than get bogged down in it all. Hence this policy for the past 3 games.
Everyone dies to something sooner or later. But the tankier you build and the better you play the less likely that is to happen. The fun is in seeing how far you can get, how to make your build more effective in offense vs defense balance (donât go for the usual softcore builds theyâre not suited for hardcore), how much risk youâre willing to take, and the adrenaline experienced along the way. Itâs a much more involved, more interesting way to play.
With the current state of the game (easy) any decently built hardcore character should be able to survive most minor lag spikes when doing most of the content. By either being tanky enough or being damaging enough to stay safe even if you canât see whatâs going on around you. You will inevitably encounter a lot of lag spikes on your journey and if all of those are likely to kill you then you wonât get far and need to reevaluate your build. Itâs only the massive lag spikes or when pushing yourself close to the limit in high NM/Pit dungeons that lag danger is severe.
And each new character is generally easier and faster to make and gets to use all sorts of hand-me-downs so itâs not so bad (you keep all mats, aspects and many other things on death). Good luck!
I ranted way more than I expected lol
I welcome the rant and appreciate your perspective! It is definitely easier and quicker to jump into a new character than I anticipated so that does lessen the blow quite a bit lol
