Hey, longtime arpg player from poe to original diablo (yep im old). For reference im probably somewhere between a casual and hardcore player.
I have suggestions/opinions on progression and itemization.
A lot of these are major system reworks.
So to me the progression in d4 feels like it is.
Leveling
Whispers/pretty much everything
Pit push
This feels a bit linear partly because loot progression is linear. We have past season mechanics that reward the same things as doing whispers.
Maybe have nm dungeons award tempering mats.(rework the randomness out and just let us pick what to temper)
Aspects not tied to gear and have them unlocked.
Have their own interface.
You level glyphs from doing x endgame thing.(similar to pit)
Gear.
Gear needs to be interesting independent of aspects.
Not entirely sure what this means, could you elaborate on this? You are promoting for an overhaul but don’t exactly explain what you want aside from this odd keurig 3 thing.
One issue here - This is the very core of itemization.
Once upon a time, Legendary items were referred to as “Aspect Taxis” because, in my experience at least, 99% of them were garbage and Rares were the sought after Bases.
Now, Legendary items are the core items after some reworks.
I agree it’s not the most interesting system, there’s no crafting and extremely limited player agency when it comes to items.
You’re asking for a major overhaul of the core itemization design.
Also - Unique items kind of fulfill that role.
I wouldn’t expect to see much from what you requested.
Out of curiosity -
What are your ideas to improve items independent from Aspects?
What system(s) or games that exist currently have a more inspiring system to you?
I agree. Today we have a line. I think the itemization is ok. Maybe one more layer of items would be interesting. Maybe corrupting items with 2 GA. One more layer of items would be interesting.
I would like to see the power of the skills with greater weight.
I see itemization as one of the worst parts of the game imo. After getting the aspect the only thing you need to really look for is ancestrals. You don’t even need to pick up gear at a certain point.
Tempering/runecrafting just feel like gambling.(tempering is better now with scrolls)
How good we got at on the fly open inventory, click item, drop into cube, open cube, quickly identify, item glance, keep/consider/discard, resume farm.
Apoplexy.
Forums flooded with…well “you think you’ve seen it all but ya ain’t seen nothing yet” - investors would be overnight millionaires.
The hoops we, as players, jumped through and how seamlessly it all went within a clunky system is really something else.
When I revisit, it doesn’t bother me because muscle memory and all but I really do appreciate the stash I have here and item size homogenization vs tetris.
