No masterworking, tempering or GAs. Item drops are exciting.
Lots of non-gear drops that have a lot of value.
Uniques, runewords and sets are more interesting.
An actual endgame with trading.
Loot in D4 is probably the most boring and weakest part of the game. A rework so that it’s more like D2 loot would instantly make D4 GotY + game of the decade.
There is a d2 like game already, you can play d2r or go back to legacy d2 anytime you want, or play poe 2 whatever.
What was interesting about d2 loot? Getting thrash set items like angelic all the time? 0 balance? Useless stats? 5 runewords dominating and anything else was thrash or only in a meme build usable? Nothing to customize except larzuk socket and anya carving your name?
How about there’s nothing interesting about either system.
Neither are new and provide excitement. Much less once someone finds something more than once the excitement or interesting parts go out the windows. Nothing will be perfect and most will just be good enough or right below adequate.
It’s always funny how everyone wants one part of one game……or another…. But forget how incapable this particular dev team is.
If you want “interesting” ARPG loot, play Last Epoch, which has tons of gimmick-based uniques and set items that change how your character plays in novel and annoying ways.
At minimum, I want my numbers to go up, I don’t want to fight through obscure and convoluted mechanics to survive and deal damage. D4 does that.
D2’s loot was boring. Every BiS came down to uniques, whether actual uniques or runewords. D4’s proliferation of aspects is far more interesting. Though very pigeonholed into metas, there is a ton of combinations you can try.
D3 probably had the most interesting loot of any Diablo game; sets were transformative to how you played your character, and it was entirely possible to cobble something together that was awesome by paying attention to how legendaries synergized.
Seriously though I see enough posts asking for “interesting” loot that then point towards boring loot, or can’t explain what “interesting” means, after awhile it just feels like troll posts.
This, I haven’t seen a single arpg with interesting loot system like ever, and it’s fine, you just chase bigger numbers.
I play this genre because I like playing different builds and blasting with them, and I specifically play choose diablo games among them cause the world building is awesome and these have the most fluid and smooth combat.
Poe has it’s pros for sure but I cannot stand that combat at all.
D2 itemization ofc is one of the best if not the best in the genre.
The thing is you can’t make D2 itemization with D3 core systems, and in D4 we have D3 core systems.
There should be no cooldowns, no borrowed powers aka aspects, no multiplicators(or at least they should delete 95% of them) and etc.
It’s impossible for this devs, they are pretty bad at everything besides good graphics.
What happened to Loot Reborn??? Granted, the basics of it are still around but it lasted, as a whole, for one season!! The community seemed to love the rework and now it’s not good again due to the rarity of Ancestrals and the impossibility of getting max aspects. I’ve played 2 toons every season but if this doesn’t get reworked in the mid season patch, I guess I’ll be back next season. This is my first Diablo game and I love it but I just can’t understand their decision making on certain aspects of the game. Then again, it is their game. Have a blessed day all.
In D2 you at least regularly get items that you can trade for upgrades for your build.
In D4 you can get all of your build’s uniques (including mythics) in a day of farming and then you are just grinding for good GA rolls and 99.9% of the gear that drops is vendor trash and it’s just beyond boring.
There’s no excitement even when a mythic unique drops because you have to reroll masterworking like 200 times before you get something decent.
making rares only have 3 affix makes em efefctively grey items as even if you got good rolls its missing the 4th and thus always weaker than a proper legendary drop.
nobody is using whites, magics, rares and it goes back to the D3 loot 1.0 where everything that dropped was just bloated trash.
Diablo 2 actually had a “mastercraft” type system later on.
You could upgrade the base item type to a higher tier thus improve stats of the item via the cube.
I disagree with some parts of this. LE has interesting loot, but the majority of folks find the uniques and set items underwhelming. I personally find the set items useless at least for my Sorcerer. My biggest two issues with LE:
It’s just all monoliths
Combat animation is clunky if compared to D4
Only a couple of builds that are viable in really high corruptions (not different with D4)
It’s hard to see what LE devs plan for next cycle
Things I really like in LE:
Merchant’s guild for those who don’t want to trade
Controller support is as good as D4 (really a big surprise here)
My take here is you are bored with D4 after 3 months, you will be bored with LE after 3 months as well.
The idea of any of these being intrinsically useful goes back to D1 and D2 with the affix/suffix system where you could actually find a higher level white that was better than a lower level blue while still doing more or less the same (iirc.) D3 & D4 follow the MMORPG style of distinct usefulness varying between tiers.
I am not in any way interested in having to look at every single piece of loot I get just so people with a fancy for archaic systems can have trash be “useful.”
How about a compromise: two tiers, yellow and legendary, the latter being rare in penitence and below, and yellow stops dropping in torment 1? You could then very well find a useful yellow to replace a legendary while leveling, especially if you can put aspects on them.
I do too; it’s designed interestingly, but it’s still not good. I agree 100% with your negatives and overall left the game because it was boring and extremely repetitive. And everything from regular crafting to slamming gave me enough bricks to build a house.
Not really, you had 2-3 very specific affix combinations selling for millions, and out of the thousands of other combinations almost all were not worth picking up.
Funny how great the itemization was in D2 when you manage to reach a certain level of selective memory.
See- this is why the plebs can’t be trusted with the word. The “joke” is very basic & unclever; it implies you need developmental disabilities to participate in the Special Olympics; it suggests the poster could keep up in any single event against qualifying athletes, much less win (very unlikely, if you’re posting here).
Worst of all, the whole point of the “joke” is to paint legendary & unique drops as worthless because ubiquitous, implying medals in the Special Olympics are handed out to any participant & are therefore just as worthless. The internal logic (which makes or breaks a joke) fails on all counts, so it just paints the poster as dim-witted & unfunny… which is an example of situational irony.
It has great potential but I think what’s lacking and what the devs need to do is to have a better vision and share what the next steps are. Considering it has been in beta for five years or more (not sure what the exact number), I figured by the time they hit 1.0, they had a strong set of plans they wanna execute
