Loot filters, why not?

I’ve been wondering if that question will ever lay in Q&A since I’m curious of dev response to that.

I think a lot of itemization problems could be solved by introducing basic loot filter like Last Epoch. I’m not talking PoE quality in that department or customization.

I’ve noticed We have a basic sound indicator for item drops in game and its adjustable.
We also have hiding item icons after period of time.

We are also sure that item dropped are unindentified until picked up. Looking for certain stats naturally would not be possible, but at least filtering out by item power perhaps?

Current item farming is tedious and I honestly ammount of ancestrals dropped at speed 70nm farming is just fine, but it takes longer to evaluate items that its needed.

There is basically no reason why this shouldn’t be implemented in the game. So either it’s just to annoy players or not enough budget.

Priorities is the reason. D4 did take a lot of resources to get to that point. Now they can begin the overhaul of their systems, but let’s be honest, we all wanted it to come out so we could play, even if it was barebone.

Its hard to imagine how creating this feature for the UI would have taken so much time that they simply could not fit it into development. A two person indie studio could add this feature to their game but they could not create the kind of massive game world with this level of presentation. Its a trivial feature compared to the rest of the game.

This had to be a case of some misguided design philosophy.

Sorting, storing and switching gear is pretty much the core of the gameplay loop for a game like Diablo. Yet they treat QoL features as “nice to have” instead of essential.

In development, there’s always a lot of features to do that “do not take so much time”, but you’re still limited time wise. I’ll let them assess their priorities, as long as in 2/3 seasons they adress the most pressing matters (and loot filter is not one of them in my eyes, while I would still like it to exist).

You could’ve think its not on Your priority list until You use one. most of the time if You use abilities that do AOE damage, You click much more to pick up the loot and than later check ilvl, check affixes. It makes 70% of the gameplay just simply walking with a pedestal, 20% of picking up/evaluating the items and 10% of actual gameplay.

In case of first 70% with increased density overall it might lower that %.
In case of the ratio between 20% and 10% nothing will change. Not to mention there is no fun from getting any loot. Even uniques are just meh drops and You dont expect nothing good to drop. True endgame is the best rares.

I’m not a dev, so my priority list doesn’t matter. What I would like to point is that there’s a development time, and it’s usually not as easy to make a game work that it seems. Even when you add more devs. So usually having the season 2 coming out is possibly more important than having a “small” feature being added for example.
I agree that this QoL feature should be done at some point.

But for such a loot to filter, you have to make a whole interface where you can target specifix affixes for specific items parts. Something that will have to evolve each time they introduce a new traits / affixes. This is not “as easy” as it sounds.
You can also have a more basic filter like “Ancestral+” shown. This would probably be easier but less useful.

They already have core for that. Interface is already in game. You can select rarity of the items and their sound drops.

it probably break the immersion as much as a map overlay will do , and the game is just about 1 month old and we should go play something else until things get fixed .

What on earth is immersion in an arpg??? Ohh iMmErSiOn i missed the sarcasm.

Thats why I post this here. It might not come in 10 years. Look at d3. I question if there is another reason behind not implementing this in game when other games have it in their betas?

Look how complete last epoch is! I played it couple of times only and maybe in total 30 hours long time ago and this issue was so quickly solved.
